Chapter 116: Secondary Awakening
by post_apiChapter 116: Secondary Awakening
“Damn it! Send all the armored soldiers out! We must capture him!”
In the small tavern, Lin Bu summoned his Intelligent Assistant and roared hoarsely.
Both of his arms were broken. He barely maintained his balance as he stumbled out of the tavern, got into a vehicle, and rushed straight to the Freedom Town security team office building.
His personal gear was over there.
He also needed to report Chen Feng’s movements to the Military as soon as possible. Only then could he slightly clear his name.
Lin Bu sat down in his office and finished the report at his fastest speaking speed. Only then did he feel a little more at ease.
Then he placed his hands under the scanner of the Atomic Therapy Device and turned the power to maximum.
The broken bones, tendons, and damaged nerves quickly recovered under the device’s radiation blades. But because the power was set too high, it caused intense pain, as if someone had put their hands into a pot of boiling oil.
Cold sweat broke out on Lin Bu’s forehead, but he did not scream. Instead, he continuously gathered frontline combat reports coming from the hills behind the town through his personal information system while making combat deployments and arrangements, trying to stop Chen Feng.
Unfortunately, it was all in vain.
Chen Feng knew Freedom Town’s military deployment like the back of his hand. He also knew the locations of all the hidden backup weapon caches like a familiar list.
Combined with his terrifying individual special operations ability, he smashed through everything in his path.
The inner layer of the main Base had nearly twelve lines of defense.
Under ideal conditions, these twelve lines could withstand a surprise attack from over fifty regular army soldiers.
But judging from the result, it was unclear whether the Escape Faction leaders underestimated the regular army’s combat power or whether Chen Feng, the Super Soldier ranked first on the comprehensive ability list, was just too formidable.
In just ten short minutes, Chen Feng had broken through the final line of defense.
“Not good! He’s going to reach our biological laboratory! Cough, is this guy a monster? We can’t aim at him at all!”
A teammate’s roar came through Lin Bu’s communicator.
Lin Bu, who had already changed into the Azure Dragon Armor and was rushing forward rapidly, said quickly, “If you can’t lock on visually, switch to auto mode! Let the Artificial Intelligence lock onto him!”
“We can’t! The smart auxiliary core we use is a stripped-down version leaked from the Military. It can’t lock onto registered Military soldiers!”
Lin Bu felt like he could vomit three liters of blood.
“This is so infuriating. He’s already a deserter, why hasn’t the Military removed him from the rolls? Don’t worry, we’ll be there soon. The auxiliary system built into the Azure Dragon Armor is sufficient. I don’t believe we can’t handle him!”
After saying this, the five-man Azure Dragon Armor squad led by Lin Bu accelerated forward.
In just thirty seconds, they would appear before Chen Feng.
No matter how well Chen Feng could fight, Lin Bu was confident of victory.
At that moment, a more panicked battle report sounded from the communicator.
“He found our armory and charged inside.”
Lin Bu was shocked. “How could he possibly know the entrance to the armory?”
“He’s Chen Feng! He’s the ace among S-class armor soldiers! He was the Warship captain’s security chief. His access level was very high!”
Lin Bu was silent for a few seconds. “That’s true. But it’s fine. Besides the Azure Dragon Armor, there are only ordinary individual weapons in the armory. They’re useless to him. He’s still no match for us. We can still subdue him.”
Hanging up the communication, Lin Bu urged the others to speed up with him again.
As for Chen Feng possibly putting on an Azure Dragon Armor?
Lin Bu never even considered that possibility.
The operation method of the Starblade Armor was much simpler than that of the Azure Dragon Armor.
Chen Feng’s skill in piloting the Starblade Armor was unprecedented, but that absolutely did not mean he could use the Azure Dragon Armor.
The complexity of the two was not on the same level.
Without systematic training, rashly putting on an Azure Dragon Armor would not enhance one’s strength. One might even injure themselves just taking the first step.
The Azure Dragon Armor, as outdated equipment phased out by the government army decades ago, was only used as primary gear by the Explorers faction when they had no other choice.
Chen Feng was a professional soldier. He had better options, so he couldn’t have learned to pilot the Azure Dragon Armor.
Five seconds later, Chen Feng, wearing a pitch-black Azure Dragon Armor – Modified, blasted through the armory door and charged out.
At the same time, five Azure Dragon Armor units, one black and four white, appeared before him.
One of Lin Bu’s team members exclaimed, “This guy has some nerve. He has no regard for his life, daring to wear the Captain’s spare armor.”
Lin Bu nodded. “He probably saw the Modified version had a different color and thought the black Azure Dragon Armor was more powerful. Tsk tsk, serves him right. He can’t blame us now.”
Chen Feng moved his body a little.
Good, it still felt so familiar.
This black Azure Dragon Armor – Modified seemed to be the prototype, almost identical to the one Ou Qinglan had made for him back then. It felt especially natural to use.
Chen Feng said, “I suggest you all step aside and let me take just one Gene Fluid. That way, regardless of whether I live or die in the end, you can clear your names. As for the Military, I will naturally send them an after-action report.”
Lin Bu shook his head. “If you don’t want to die, I also suggest you don’t make any rash moves. Operating an Azure Dragon Armor is much more difficult than your Starblade Armor. A single misstep, and you could be torn to pieces.”
Chen Feng shrugged and spread his hands. “Thanks for the reminder. But… I don’t need it!”
With those words, he suddenly took a big step forward.
His magnetic vibration blade drew a strange arc in the air, and several thrusters on his back roared to life at full power.
In that instant, he pushed the power to its limit, pulling 50 Gs of acceleration.
This was a move he had invented himself, focused on a full-powered, surprise attack.
He called this move the Instant Swift Blade.
The distance of several dozen meters between them closed instantly. The dynamic capture system in Lin Bu’s helmet activated.
He was stunned.
Chen Feng’s movement, this level of familiarity… how could this possibly be his first time piloting an Azure Dragon Armor?
Every detail was perfected to the extreme.
He was utilizing this spare armor’s performance to a level Lin Bu had never even imagined.
But Lin Bu absolutely did not plan to surrender. He raised his Alloy Shield in time. It should be able to block.
However, the collision did not happen as he expected. At the moment Chen Feng charged to Lin Bu’s front, he changed direction in a sharp line, turning to the other side with even greater speed.
To achieve the maximum directional-change acceleration, Chen Feng even threw his own Alloy Shield away.
Two loud bangs sounded in succession.
Lin Bu lowered his shield and looked around.
His teammate on the left had been knocked down by the Alloy Shield. The nuclear fusion energy pack on the chest had been knocked loose by the shield, its wires severed.
His teammate on the right stood frozen in place. Chen Feng had already left that person’s side.
Sparks were flying from this teammate’s Azure Dragon Armor, and severed wires were peeling off.
In that single instant, Chen Feng had slashed him at least ten times, completely destroying his armor’s transmission system.
Snap!
Somehow, Chen Feng had already flicked a particle gun into his hand and fired, hitting the control helmet of the third Azure Dragon Armor.
A powerful particle voltage ran down the data cable from the top of the helmet, burning out the third armor’s control circuits.
“No!”
Lin Bu screamed.
He turned his head, utterly shocked, to look at the second unit on his left, which was the last teammate still able to move.
It turned out that a high-explosive plasma bomb had appeared before this teammate without anyone noticing.
A violent explosion suddenly occurred, and the erupting red plasma, along with flames, swallowed this person.
When the aftermath of the explosion dissipated, Lin Bu realized that this teammate had not died. The plasma had only burned through the alloy armor on his chest, revealing the pale skin of his chest underneath.
His chest hair was all burned off, but he was completely unharmed.
This bomb had actually been attached to the shield by Chen Feng the moment he threw it earlier. Using the alloy shield as cover, he made it bounce to that position during the collision.
This combat sense, this sharp judgment, this terrifying ability to devise on-the-spot battle plans, left Lin Bu stunned.
His gaze grew unfocused, his heart filled with confusion.
Lin Bu had not even truly fought Chen Feng’s armor, but his mindset was already shattered.
The hand holding his blade gradually lost strength, and he couldn’t muster the courage to fight back.
Lin Bu desperately screamed in his heart. He was unwilling to surrender like this, like a pitiful coward.
But the most fundamental logic deep in his heart completely controlled his body, preventing him from making any move.
Because logic told him that no matter what, he must not attack Chen Feng again.
Chen Feng walked back to Lin Bu, holding his blade with one hand.
“Are you sure you still want to stop me? You’re slightly stronger than your teammate, and I can’t guarantee if I can still hold back enough to spare your life.” Chen Feng shrugged. “Controlling how much I hold back is ten times harder than fighting with all my strength.”
Lin Bu slumped to his knees on the ground. He pointed toward the biological laboratory belonging to the Escape Faction in the distance. “You… go ahead. Thank you for holding back.”
“You’re welcome.” Chen Feng turned and walked away.
Lin Bu loudly asked from behind, “Why are you so strong?”
Chen Feng didn’t turn back, only waving his hand. “I already told you, a tiny difference leads to a huge error. The gap between you and me is a thousand miles.”
No one in the biological laboratory dared to stop him anymore. The technicians even proactively brought out an alloy case.
Inside was a Gene Fluid.
After getting the case, Chen Feng casually took off his Azure Dragon Armor and jumped into the nearby Life Support System.
He sat up again and said to the technicians, “Please help me activate the life support mode.”
Lin Bu, still wearing his Azure Dragon Armor – Modified, did not rush in. He only shouted from outside the door, “Chen Feng, no! You can’t die!”
Chen Feng grinned. “Of course I won’t die.”
With that, he picked up the Gene Fluid syringe, jabbed it into the back of his spine, and completed the injection.
Then he threw the syringe away and lay back down. The technicians hurriedly scrambled to start the Life Support System.
Lin Bu’s mind raced.
In the end, he only summoned his Intelligent Assistant and said, “Report to the Military that Chen Feng stole a Gene Fluid and escaped.”
Three days later.
Chen Feng slowly woke up.
The bed was soft, and the bedding felt amazing.
He opened his eyes and glanced out the window.
The massive Spacecraft belonging to the Escape Faction still stood not far away.
This room was likely located in a Villa reserved for high-ranking officials within the Escape Faction’s headquarters.
Noticing the movement in the room, the door was abruptly pushed open.
Lin Bu and several leaders of the Escape Faction entered the room.
These leaders included men and women, old and young.
They all looked at Chen Feng with complex expressions.
A technician in a white coat walked out from the equipment on the other side of the room.
“Captain Chen Feng, congratulations. You have become the first person in all of humanity to complete a second Gene Awakening. Your current Gene Awakening percentage is 31.77%. You are the first person in human history with a Gene Awakening level exceeding 31%.”
Chen Feng nodded. “Thank you.”
Then he looked at Lin Bu. “What did the Military say?”
A middle-aged man in a suit spoke first. “We lied to the Military. They don’t know you’re still here. Will you stay?”
Chen Feng thought about it and secretly found it funny. How could they not know?
The reason they hadn’t acted was probably because he had survived the Gene Fluid technological transformation.
The Military was reassessing him, a deserter, and hadn’t made a decision yet.
He thought for a moment and said, “I’ll stay for a while to adjust, if that’s okay. Sorry for the trouble. Oh, and when I have time, I can help you train Azure Dragon Armor operators. I’m pretty good at that too.”
Actually, he had his eyes on something else.
The Escape Faction’s knowledge base was very attractive to him.
For the World Government, most of the knowledge held by the Escape Faction was outdated, but it better suited Chen Feng’s needs.
