Chapter 51: Seeing is Believing, False
by post_apiChapter 51: Seeing is Believing, False
“Alright, this has nothing to do with you. You should leave first.”
Chen Feng turned his head and spoke sternly to Qin Lu.
Qin Lu was just a minor character, even less significant than him. He didn’t want to drag her into this mess.
She was merely a university student; she probably couldn’t withstand Zhou A’s anger.
“No way! I can’t just watch my idol be slandered like this.”
Chen Feng’s attempt to cover for her actually emboldened Qin Lu. She stepped forward. “I am Qin Lu, a junior vocal music major at Jiangnan Conservatory of Music! I am also a humble waitress. Compared to all you important people, my words carry little weight. But I can’t stand you spouting nonsense and making up facts here!”
Zhou A said coldly, “Very well, I remember you. But you’d better ask others to find out who I am. If you want to suck up to someone, you should understand who the better choice is.”
“Pah! Who wants to suck up to you! I don’t care who you are! Who wants to suck up… Oh wait, I do want to suck up to Teacher Chen. I just want him to quickly subject me to some casting couch rules!”
Zhou A was stunned for a moment, then couldn’t help but laugh. “Are you here to be funny, little sister?”
Chen Feng put a hand to his forehead. He was getting a headache now.
The others present also looked at her oddly. Was this girl named Qin Lu really here to help clear Chen Feng and Zhong Lei’s names?
She seemed more like a terrible teammate who made things worse.
“But the reason I want to step forward and vouch for Teacher Chen’s integrity with my character is precisely because I can’t suck up to him successfully! I was so proactive and threw myself at him, but he wouldn’t play along!”
Qin Lu spoke loudly with her hands on her hips, while also giving Chen Feng a very resentful look.
Zhou A waved his hand dismissively but looked towards the other side. “Sister Weiwei, sorry for causing a scene at your birthday party. However, this little girl seems a bit off in the head. I don’t even understand what she’s trying to say. How about we have these people removed?”
Yes, Qin Lu’s logic was a bit messy. She clearly seemed to be on Chen Feng’s side, but what she said was also utterly confusing, like someone who was mentally unsound.
But Lu Wei didn’t listen to Zhou A’s suggestion. She first gestured with her hand for the logistics supervisor who was about to step forward and pull Qin Lu away to calm down, then asked, “It seems you and Mr. Chen knew each other before? I’d like to hear what exactly happened.”
Finally being spoken to by Lu Wei, Qin Lu felt both happy and nervous. Her bravado diminished a little, and she said sheepishly, “A few days ago, Teacher Chen came to our school looking for someone to help him record a demo of a song, and he happened to run into me. When I heard he was actually the producer of ‘Dullness,’ I was so excited.”
“A demo? The one you plan to sell to He Jiaqi?” Lu Wei asked Chen Feng curiously.
Chen Feng nodded. “Yes, it was already recorded then. The contract was signed a few days ago.”
“No wonder Sister Jiaqi was originally busy today. When she heard you were coming, she pushed aside her schedule to come in person.” Lu Wei had a look of understanding.
Speak of the devil, He Jiaqi’s voice suddenly came from the back of the crowd.
“Hey, what are all of you gathered here for?”
Lu Wei smiled. “The person involved is here. Let’s sort this out. The situation is probably like this. Qin Lu, are you a crazy fan of Chen Feng?”
Qin Lu nodded. “Absolutely!”
“To the point of throwing yourself at him?”
“Who wouldn’t want to! I felt it. I’ve been single for twenty years, waiting for him! From the moment I first saw him, I wanted to have his mon… have his baby!”
Pfft!
The crowd finally couldn’t hold back their laughter.
What is most precious in the 21st Century? Talent!
This little girl really is a piece of work!
She looks quite decent, but her train of thought is so bizarre. Did a door hit her head when she was a kid?
Lu Wei, however, didn’t laugh. Probably because she had seen a lot and encountered all sorts of strange people.
She only asked, “But he rejected you?”
“Yeah, he rejected me so cruelly.”
“So you firmly believe Chen Feng and Zhong Lei have no relationship?”
“Of course! I believe with personalities like Teacher Zhong and Teacher Chen, if there was a relationship, they would definitely admit it openly and honestly. Since they said no, then it definitely means no!”
Lu Wei fell into a brief contemplation.
After a long while, she finally said, “The one who can prove the truth of your words should be Jiaqi. Come, Jiaqi, listen to her voice. Is she the one who sang the demo?”
He Jiaqi had gradually understood the situation by now but dared not confirm hastily. “There’s still some difference between a person’s singing voice and speaking voice. I can’t say for sure.”
Qin Lu said anxiously, “Teacher He, can I sing a couple of lines briefly then?”
He Jiaqi nodded. “Okay. We’ve already registered for copyright protection, and we’ll release a single for promotion next month. Just sing the first couple of lines. It’s fine.”
As soon as Qin Lu finished singing, several knowledgeable people present had their eyes light up.
This rare, exquisite mezzo-soprano voice was truly talented!
“It’s her, without a doubt!”
He Jiaqi laid the matter to rest with one definitive statement.
Zhou A beside her was completely bewildered. How did things develop in a direction completely opposite to his expectations? Chen Feng and Zhong Lei hadn’t even said much, but it seemed like the crisis hanging over this couple’s heads was already resolved?
“Hold on! You still can’t explain why you were living together!”
Zhong Lei retorted coldly, “Why do we need to explain? What’s the big deal about living together? Have you never shared an apartment…”
Chen Feng coughed, interrupting Zhong Lei. “He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He really hasn’t shared an apartment before.”
Zhong Lei shot him a look.
Could you not be so brutally honest?
Fortunately, He Jiaqi spoke up again. “Speaking of which, friends, you probably know I recently took on an endorsement in Hanzhou, right? Kelai Apartment.”
A few people nodded.
“Probably no one knows that besides writing songs, Teacher Chen’s previous main job was as an employee of Kelai Apartment. He was in charge of the very residential area where he and Zhong Lei lived, right?”
She directed the last part of her sentence at Chen Feng.
Chen Feng knew this was the convenient excuse He Jiaqi was offering, but it was also the truth. “Correct.”
“I won’t advertise here. But Kelai Apartment does indeed have employee dormitories. I visited the company too. Teacher Chen’s and Zhong Lei’s rooms should be in the same suite but separated into upper and lower floors. Teacher Chen’s was probably the company-arranged dormitory, and Zhong Lei was likely a tenant who moved in separately. It’s just a coincidence, right?”
“Right.”
Now everyone suddenly understood. Zhou A’s previous series of attacks were swiftly neutralized and dissipated by this key figure, He Jiaqi.
Chen Feng felt relieved inwardly, giving a mental thumbs-up. Sister Jiaqi is sharp!
Zhong Lei, however, was already getting impatient. “Alright, I shouldn’t have come to this high-society gathering in the first place. It’s not interesting at all. Do whatever you want. I’m going home to sleep.”
After saying that, she really intended to leave. Her patience had been worn down to its limit.
But she immediately stopped short and pointed at Zhou A. “The dirty see only dirt; the pure see only purity. You can say whatever you want, Zhou A. You can tell the reporters to write whatever, smear me however you like, even paint me as a slut, I don’t care. Besides, what’s wrong even if Chen Feng and I were cohabiting and dating?”
“I just want to sing, and only want to sing. As long as my songs are good, and I’m not committing crimes or breaking the law, what do I have to fear? Zhou A, I can tell you clearly. If you’re really that powerful, find someone to kill me, run me over! I said I won’t be with you, and even if I die, I won’t give you the time of day!”
“You motherfucker are just an animal driven by your lower half, wishing you could strut around with that thing on top of your head all day long. Do you have any shame? Does your Zhou family of Hanzhou have any shame? Under the bright sun, in this clear and just world, is there really any justice?”
“Come on!” She then immediately spread her legs apart on the spot, adopting a horse stance.
She pointed at her lower abdomen. “You bastard, you have no shame anyway. Don’t you want to sleep with me? Take out that ugly thing of yours right now, and I’ll let you have your fill in front of everyone! Do you dare?”
Zhong Lei’s outburst truly tore off all pretense.
Although many people present were aware of what kind of person Zhou A was.
Without even asking, most could guess why he was targeting Chen Feng and Zhong Lei.
But no one could have imagined that Zhong Lei would actually dare, right in front of everyone, to so blatantly rip off the cover, exposing the ugliness in Zhou A’s heart for all to see and judge.
She dared to curse Zhou A like that!
She had staked everything herself.
Chen Feng was also shocked, his mouth agape.
Sister Lei, you are something else!
Zhou A was dumbfounded too.
Lu Wei slightly covered her mouth with her hand, her gaze towards Zhong Lei sparkling with admiration.
She stepped forward and took Zhong Lei’s hand. “Today, you are my guest. How can I let anyone make you leave? Calm down. The matter is cleared up now. Zhou A wouldn’t dare let people write nonsense, right?”
The latter part of Lu Wei’s words carried a hint of a threat.
Zhong Lei pulled her hand free from Lu Wei’s, upset. “Now you finally remember we are guests too? Huh… whatever.”
Actually, Zhong Lei had been simmering with anger for a while but hadn’t let it out.
Now that she had vented a little and remembered she still needed a favor from them, she reined it in a bit.
Lu Wei repeatedly apologized. “It’s my fault. But I also wanted to clarify the situation and clear your and Chen Feng’s names, right?”
Zhong Lei forced out a rather awkward smile. “What’s clearing names or not? Even if we weren’t cleared, so what? It’s just that I’m a loner by nature. Otherwise, a good man like Chen Feng, tying him down quickly to live together would be the real deal.”
Chen Feng pointed at his own nose, speechless. “Me… am I really that good?”
At this moment, Zhou A had become a complete outsider.
He still wanted to say something, but he couldn’t open his mouth.
Lu Wei glanced at him from the corner of her eye, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Young Master Zhou, today it was my poor hospitality, not knowing in advance you had some friction. How about I host you privately another day to make it up to you?”
Zhou A thought he misheard.
She was actually asking me to leave!
