Chapter 4 Blind Zhang
by SurroundedbyBooks“Cough cough…” A weak cough sounded from Bu Gong’s small room; Bu Gong opened his eyes slightly, and felt his mind was confused; then he shook his head and was about to get up; just as he supported his body with his hands and was about to move his legs, he felt a sharp pain coming from his calf.
This stimulated Bu Gong’s somewhat confused mind to wake up somewhat; and then all the events that happened in the past few days appeared in Bu Gong’s mind.
I saw him sitting on the kang in a daze, and it took him a moment to come back to his senses, with a bitter smile on the corner of his mouth; it was a very powerless and unwilling smile.
With a “creak”, the door of Bu Gong’s small room was suddenly opened; he slowly turned his head and looked towards the door; after seeing the person coming, Bu Gong’s eyes, which were originally indifferent and even numb, showed some fluctuations.
“Grandpa Zhang, you’re here!” A hoarse voice came from Bu Gong’s mouth; then, Bu Gong was slightly startled, because he heard that the voice he had just made was completely different from his previous ones; if this voice came from someone else’s mouth, then he would definitely not recognize this person.
“Boy Bu Gong, are you awake?” Blind Zhang asked with a hint of joy in his tone. Obviously, Bu Gong’s awakening made him feel relieved.
“Brother Bu Gong, you are so lazy. You slept for so long, you lazy bum.” Another childish voice came from the house. Bu Gong also saw Xiao Huzi at this time.
Then an ugly smile appeared on his somewhat stiff face, “Hu Zi, did you bring Grandpa Zhang to my house?” Bu Gong asked.
“Well, yes; we have been in your house for three or four hours. I wanted to wake you up at first, but Grandpa Zhang told you to sleep a little longer; look, we stayed outside the house and the sun got my skin tanned.” Little Tiger raised his chubby little arms and said to Bu Gong as if to ask for credit.
Seeing this, Bu Gong shook his head slightly and wanted to smile, but his face seemed out of his control; it looked a little stiff, and the smile looked uglier than crying.
He turned to look at Blind Zhang and said, “Grandpa Zhang, there is a stool in the room, please sit down.” “Hehe…you kid, look how you’ve tortured yourself. I took care of the wound on your leg when you were unconscious. It will be healed in a few days.” Blind Zhang said slowly, and then, with the help of Xiaohu, he sat on a small stool near the door in the room.
…
“Boy Bu Gong, think positively. After all, no one can predict such a thing in advance. If anything happens to you, even if your father is in heaven, he will not rest in peace,” Blind Zhang said slowly.
Bu Gong’s face, which had been calm at this time, became a little ferocious after hearing these words; his eyes were slightly red, his hands were clenched tightly, his body was trembling slightly, and his breathing was a little tight.
After a moment, Bu Gong’s clenched hands slowly loosened, as if all the strength in his body was drained out, and he looked very powerless; “I am just an ordinary person,” he murmured in his heart.
But what no one noticed was that at this moment, Blind Zhang, who was leaning against the door to bask in the sun, paused slightly, and his expression was slightly stunned for a moment, and then he returned to normal.
“Hehe… Let the past be the past, Grandpa Zhang, I won’t commit suicide,” Bu Gong said with a slightly trembling voice.
After hearing Bu Gong’s words, Blind Zhang should have felt relieved; but instead, Blind Zhang frowned slightly, and then sighed softly and shook his head; “It seems that this kid still can’t let it go. If this knot is not removed, it will probably have a great impact on his body in the future,” Blind Zhang thought secretly in his heart.
At this time, Blind Zhang frowned, and wrinkles gradually appeared on his face; he raised his head slightly, leaned against the wooden door of the house, and basked in the sun; in the room, apart from the little tiger talking from time to time, the tender voice of the child echoed in the room, there was no other sound, and only two faint breathing sounds could be heard.
This went on for a long time, perhaps an hour, perhaps two hours, or perhaps even longer…
“Boy Bu Gong, stop deceiving yourself. Although I advise you like this, I don’t think you will really listen to me. The knot in your heart will never be untied. You will live a very tiring life in the future!” Blind Zhang sighed slowly and said.
After hearing what Blind Zhang said, Bu Gong shook his head and smiled bitterly; “Hehe… Grandpa Zhang, do you think I have any other choice?” Bu Gong’s hoarse and low voice came out of his mouth, and anyone could hear the strong resentment and hatred in it.
“Oh!” Blind Zhang sighed deeply, and then his wrinkled brows became more calm, as if he was thinking about some important issue. His lips moved slightly several times, and he wanted to say something, but he never said it.
“Brother Bu Gong, get up and play with Xiao Hu. You used to like to take me everywhere to play. Why don’t you want to pay attention to Xiao Hu today?” Xiao Hu was heard mumbling a little aggrieved.
At this time, Bu Gong’s head began to feel confused again, and he looked a little sleepy. He wanted to say something, but before he could open his mouth, he fell back on the kang and fell asleep.
“Hey, Brother Bu Gong, why did you fall asleep again? You big lazy bum!” Then Little Tiger shouted again; “Grandpa, come and see Brother Bu Gong, why did he fall asleep again?” Little Tiger shouted to Blind Zhang in a childish voice with a little surprise.
“Falling asleep again?” A complicated look flashed across Blind Zhang’s old face. “Little Tiger, come and help me to your brother Bu Gong, I’ll help take a look at him.” As Blind Zhang spoke, he slowly stood up with the help of his crutches and the help of the door panel.
Little Tiger took Blind Zhang’s left hand and walked towards Bu Gong again…
“Oh, what a miserable child, it’s really…” A soft sigh came from the mouth of Blind Zhang; he had just taken Bu Gong’s pulse, and it turned out that Bu Gong had been feeling depressed in his heart for the past few days, which caused some slight damage to his heart pulse, so he was in a trance and fell into coma again.
“Boy Bu Gong, when you wake up, perhaps I can do something for you; but if you choose to go down this path, it will be difficult to turn back in the future!” Blind Zhang muttered softly, as if he had made some important decision.
Then Blind Zhang shook his head slightly and said, “Little Tiger, come, let’s go first. When your brother Bu Gong wakes up, he will play with you.”
…
It had been about five or six days since Blind Zhang had come. Early that morning, Bu Gong had just finished washing up at the door of the small house when suddenly the yard door was pushed open with a creak. Bu Gong slowly raised his head and saw the person coming. A little spirit appeared on his originally indifferent face.
“Xiao Hu, why did you come here so early?” Bu Gong asked; “Hey, brother Bu Gong, is your leg okay? Can you walk?” Xiao Hu asked Bu Gong in a childish tone with a little surprise.
“Hehe…it’s okay now.” Bu Gong shook his head slightly and smiled indifferently. When Xiao Huzi heard Bu Gong say this, a hint of surprise flashed across his chubby face, and then he said with a little excitement: “Brother Bu Gong, grandpa asked me to come and see you. He said that if you get better, I will take you to see him.”
“Oh?” Bu Gong was a little surprised when he heard Xiao Hu say this; because in the past, Blind Zhang never took the initiative to ask Bu Gong to come to him, like listening to stories, helping Blind Zhang do things and so on, it was Bu Gong who ran over on his own.
“Okay, Xiaohu, wait a moment.” Bu Gong then turned and went into the house and tidied himself up a bit; but the clothes he was wearing were still the bright red wedding gown he was going to wear when he married Ruomeng. It was obvious that this incident had dealt a great blow to him and hurt him deeply.
“Brother Bu Gong, you can finally play with me…” Along the way, the little tiger jumped around Bu Gong, chattering non-stop.
The two walked for about ten minutes, and saw a medicine shop in front of them that looked a bit old and had a slightly cramped space.
“Brother Bu Gong, we’re here.” Xiao Hu pointed at the medicine shop in front and turned to Bu Gong and said. Seeing this, Bu Gong gently touched Xiao Hu’s head and said, “Xiao Hu, let’s go in.” Then he took Xiao Hu’s hand and walked into the medicine shop.
After the two entered the drugstore, they saw Blind Zhang sitting behind the counter, and in front of the counter sat an old lady in her seventies or eighties. Beside the old lady stood a young and strong man in his twenties, supporting her.
“Uncle Zhang, look, is my mother’s illness serious? She suddenly felt a little short of breath last night, and then she had a convulsion. I didn’t have time to send my mother to the pharmacy at that time, but she recovered soon. That’s why I carried my mother here to you early this morning to have a look,” the strong young man said.
“Hehe…Daniu, there’s nothing serious with your mother’s health. Just pay attention to her diet these few days. Try not to let your mother eat spicy food. As she gets older, spicy food can cause her to get irritated, which is not good for her health,” said Blind Zhang gently.
When Bu Gong saw that Blind Zhang was treating a patient, he sat down on the wooden stool beside the counter. “Grandpa, Grandpa, I brought brother Bu Gong to you.” But at this time, Xiao Hu was lying on the edge of the counter and said to Blind Zhang as if asking for credit.
“Xiaohu, go sit with your brother Bugong for a while,” Blind Zhang tilted his head slightly and said to Xiaohu in a stern tone; “Oh,” Xiaohu muttered, then walked to Bugong with his head down and sat down with him on the stool.
Because there were so many patients, Xiaohu had to work hard. He had to sit and stand at times. Finally, when he couldn’t bear it any longer, he sat down with Bu Gong, then leaned on Bu Gong and closed his eyes, looking like he was going to sleep.
But the two of them sat there for almost half the day; Bu Gong had been sitting since morning, for an hour, two hours…
As time passed slowly, Xiaohu had fallen asleep leaning on Bu Gong; but Bu Gong sat there like a wooden stake, motionless, with an indifferent and calm expression.
Finally, it was afternoon, when the last patient walked out of the pharmacy; only then did Blind Zhang slowly speak and ask, “Boy Bu Gong, are you still here?”
“Grandpa Zhang, I’m here. I saw you treating a patient when I came in, so I didn’t make any noise to disturb you.” At this time, Bu Gong turned his head slightly and spoke in a calm tone. As Bu Gong’s voice spread, Xiao Hu, who was originally asleep, gradually opened his eyes, but he still looked sleepy and had not yet woken up.
When Blind Zhang heard Bu Gong say this, a smile appeared on his wrinkled old face. He continued, “You must be tired after sitting for so long. Come, help me into the inner room and talk.”
Bu Gong patted Xiaohu and asked him to stand up; then he walked behind the counter and helped Blind Zhang slowly into the inner room; seeing this, Xiaohu also followed in like a follower.
