Chapter 820
by fanqienovelChapter 820: Demon Emperor Lingyun
Within Nine Demons Burning, Ye Yun stood quietly.
"The first layer shows no abnormalities?" His vast spirit perception swept across the surroundings. Finding nothing unusual, he relaxed slightly. Since the outermost layer remained intact, it meant the Demon Race hadn’t broken the seal yet. The second layer matched his expectations too—populated only by small demons who trembled at his presence, too fearful to attack.
"Begone." With casual waves, Ye Yun obliterated every weak demon in his path. Yet as he prepared to leave, an uneasy feeling swelled instead of fading. "Having comprehended the sword of cause and effect, I sometimes sense future events. Whether this foreknowledge brings fortune or calamity remains unclear." The barren landscape stretching before him deepened his doubts. While empty first and second layers seemed normal, encountering no powerful beasts in the third layer spelled trouble regardless of optimistic thinking.
Though urgent to solve this puzzle, Ye Yun reached the fourth layer with growing dread. He rushed to where he’d slain the Lava Sea King. Finding the Ice Sealing unchanged, white light surged within him, instantly transporting him to the sixth level. Discovering this layer equally deserted, he resolved to cast aside hesitation and teleport straight to Nine Demons Burning’s core using spatial laws.
There, traces of the Demon Race finally appeared—yet instead of relief, deeper furrows creased Ye Yun’s brow. The sea of demons ahead exuded palpable menace. Their roaring chants shook the air: "This day marks our return to Lingyao Continent! Foolish humans shall become our prey once more!" Though Ye Yun didn’t understand their tongue, the Ancestor translated their bloodthirsty declarations.
His gaze settled on a Teal Fox addressing the horde. The fox’s whitening fur hinted at great age, yet its aura surpassed a Seventh Level Earth Immortal—proof of profound cultivation. As the fox roused its kin, Ye Yun secretly activated a God Concealment Talisman. Precious as it was, this wasn’t time for thrift. His focus locked onto a pulsating black-gold egg radiating annihilation—the Demon Emperor’s life vessel. Destroying it now could end everything.
The egg emitted a Tenth Level Earth Immortal soul aura. Once hatched, the Demon Emperor would fully ascend to that dreaded realm—an outcome Ye Yun couldn’t permit.
Silent steps carried him through the demonic sea. None detected his approach, not even the Teal Fox. Drawing the Purple Shadow Divine Sword, he unleashed its judgment-filled radiance. The blade pierced the egg, feeling the Tenth Level aura stutter and fade.
"If only it were this simple." Ye Yun smirked as the Teal Fox whirled in shock. "We meet again. I mistook you for a minor character last time."
"That human!" demons cried. As they lunged for revenge, the Teal Fox halted them with a raised paw. Transforming into an azure-robed elder, it hissed coldly: "You left before. Why return to ambush our Emperor with such cowardice?"
"If foxes lecture me on honor, so be it." Ye Yun shrugged. "Let’s see whom more believe—your kin or mine."
What puzzled him was the fox’s calm response. At Eighth Level Earth Immortal realm—a Great Demon King’s strength—it should’ve attacked. Instead, it merely taunted: "Know your race’s fatal flaw? Arrogance. Had you struck earlier, you might’ve succeeded. But now, my Emperor’s phoenix bloodline awakens!"
A deafening shriek tore through the air. Ye Yun barely turned before a pale hand grabbed his sword—unscathed by the blade’s edge. From the cracking egg emerged a being of breathtaking beauty, eyes swirling gold and obsidian. "At last, Tenth Level Earth Immortal through demonic energy. Lingyao Continent shall have new rulers." The transformed Demon Emperor’s gaze turned murderous as black-gold light erupted, fracturing Nine Demons Burning itself.
Ye Yun recalled his sword and teleported away without hesitation.
Leng Lingyun made no pursuit. Addressing his subjects, he declared: "I, Demon Emperor Leng Lingyun, hereby free our kind! Hunt every human—mortal or cultivator—they’re equally worthless!"
The demonic tide surged forth like ruptured dams. Leng Lingyun flashed through space, materializing before Ye Yun with mocking amusement. "How entertaining! None have threatened me in centuries. Feel honored, human."
"I helped you reach Tenth Level. Rather harsh to discard me now." Ye Yun ceased fleeing, meeting the Emperor’s gaze. "Impressive ambition, targeting my entire race."
Leng Lingyun’s eyes blazed with manic fury. "Coexistence was a fool’s dream! Your kind’s deceitful nature demands eradication."
"So the demonic energy corrupted you after all." Ye Yun observed the Emperor’s lost composure. That initial peace proposal now seemed laughable—humans would never share lands with demons. Conflict was inevitable.
As murderous energy gathered, Ye Yun chuckled: "If you insist on fighting, first greet my companion."
A black-winged creature materialized from his palm. Before Leng Lingyun reacted, the beast shattered surrounding barriers, swelling into a thousand-zhang mountain beast. Ravenous eyes locked onto the Emperor.
Golden wings burst from Leng Lingyun’s back as he matched the beast’s size. Their collision unleashed cataclysmic shockwaves.
Ye Yun departed the crumbling battlefield. His path led to Red City—and unresolved business with Hong Qianji. Though she’d schemed against him before, he’d let this confrontation test her capabilities. Survival hinged on her own strength now.
"Ancestor, could you defeat Leng Lingyun?" Ye Yun asked while sensing distant spatial ruptures.
"Using your former immortal spirit body? Easily." The Ancestor’s voice held eager edge. "But with your current form? Victory would demand… extreme measures."
"Dangerous indeed." Ye Yun smiled wryly as acceleration tore them through the skies.
