    Chapter Index

Ding Longyun had already prepared breakfast. Gong Xiao was humming a tune; having successfully advanced to Level 4 last night and acquired the new “Mantis Fist” ability, she was clearly in a good mood.

“We hunt at night, but what do we do during the day?” Gong Xiao asked Ding Longyun and Su Li at the table.

She had only arrived yesterday and was unfamiliar with their daily routine.

Su Li finished a piece of bread and took a sip of water. “Our main task during the day is to modify the raft.”

“Modify the raft?” Gong Xiao looked at Su Li.

Su Li affirmed with a nod. “I want to build a raft big enough to carry all of us and the supplies here. Then we’ll leave this place and look for somewhere new. The Nightmare Beast damaged quite a few walls in this building, and with it being submerged, there’s no telling how long it will last. It wouldn’t surprise me if it collapsed right now.”

Ding Longyun was startled. “It’s not that exaggerated, is it? I feel the building is still quite sturdy. Although the Nightmare Beast damaged some areas, the main structure is intact. It shouldn’t be a big problem.”

Su Li clarified, “I’m just giving an example. We can’t stay here forever. We weren’t leaving before because we were too weak. Now, except for Xuehui, the three of us are Level 4. We can start planning our departure.”

Gong Xiao nodded thoughtfully, her phoenix eyes shining with brilliance. “That’s right. We can go to a place with more floors. There might be more survivors there.”

Su Li smiled faintly. “So, our main daytime task is to modify and expand the raft.”

Gong Xiao said, “I understand. Let’s hurry up and eat, and then get right to work.”

After the four finished breakfast, they decided to go down to the 30th floor to modify the raft. Xu Xuehui walked out first. The moment she entered the corridor, she cried out, “People!”

Hearing her voice, Su Li and Ding Longyun’s hearts tightened. They immediately walked out. Gong Xiao looked surprised and followed them out, asking, “People? What people?”

Su Li rushed to Xu Xuehui’s side and looked into the distance. He immediately saw a raft, constructed of about ten wooden doors, floating on the water a hundred meters away. Five figures stood on the raft. Two men were paddling hard, while the other three were observing the building, seemingly looking for their trace.

Suddenly seeing five people, Gong Xiao raised her delicate eyebrows and quietly exhaled. “Five more survivors.” She then noticed that Su Li and Ding Longyun’s expressions were grim.

“What’s wrong? Is there something wrong with those five?” Gong Xiao immediately understood that there was a problem, judging by their faces.

Ding Longyun smiled bitterly. “Yes, these five are likely here for revenge.”

The raft was getting closer. They could clearly make out the five people standing on it. They recognized one of them—Ni Jianrong, whom they suspected came from the Purple Wind Building, and with whom they had fought yesterday.

Yesterday, Ni Jianrong, Fang You, and Wang Kaikang had arrived and immediately attacked them. Ding Longyun was nearly killed, but Su Li successfully counter-attacked, resulting in the deaths of Fang You and Wang Kaikang. Ni Jianrong jumped into the water and fled, swearing revenge as he left.

The three of them had thought the probability of Ni Jianrong returning was extremely low. After all, in the perilous waters, Ni Jianrong left without a raft. It was highly likely he wouldn’t survive the swim back to the Purple Wind Building, let alone return with a group for revenge.

But, unexpectedly, Ni Jianrong had returned, and he had four others with him.

The four of them had been eating and weren’t watching the outside. By the time Xu Xuehui noticed them, the five men’s raft was already within a hundred meters, and their speed was increasing, as if they were afraid they might escape.

“Su Li, what do you say? Should we fight them head-on, or avoid them?” Ding Longyun looked at Su Li. He was furious, remembering how Ni Jianrong had almost killed him yesterday. However, there were five opponents, and although they were four, Xu Xuehui was negligible in a fight. They only had three combatants. The odds of three against five were very low.

“Are you willing to surrender the house full of supplies?” Su Li glanced at Ding Longyun. “Let’s wait and see what they say. If we truly can’t beat them, we’ll jump into the water and run.”

Su Li had a degree of confidence in his strength, having reached Level 4 and acquired “Spider Walk.”

Although there were five opponents, sheer numbers didn’t guarantee victory against them. If Ni Jianrong’s strength was the same as yesterday, Su Li believed he could kill him in a single exchange, thanks to “Spider Walk” and his newly boosted strength.

“Alright, I’ll listen to you. Damn them. If they really are here for revenge, we’ll fight them to the death. We’ll fight them fair and square; I’m not afraid of them.” Ding Longyun gritted his teeth. He was clearly still deeply resentful of Ni Jianrong’s sudden ambush.

Su Li thought: We killed two of their people yesterday. Are they coming to befriend us or to seek revenge?

“Let’s go, we’ll go down and meet them.” Ding Longyun saw the raft was already within fifty meters and quickly approaching the building. He picked up his small axe and prepared to go downstairs.

“No.” Su Li stopped him, shaking his head. “You all go up to the roof. Draw their attention up there. Leave the rest to me.”

Ding Longyun’s body stiffened. “And what about you?”

“Hurry! Listen to me! They’re almost here.” Su Li urged Ding Longyun and the other two, sounding anxious.

“Alright, I trust you.” Ding Longyun said no more. He grabbed his small axe and ran toward the stairs.

Gong Xiao gave Su Li a long, intense look, said nothing, and pulled Xu Xuehui, following Ding Longyun.

The three ran up the stairs to the roof and positioned themselves at the edge. Ding Longyun looked down.

He saw the raft was only ten meters away from the base of the building and was slowing down.

“Haha, Ni Jianrong—” Ding Longyun remembered Su Li’s instruction to draw their attention. He burst into loud laughter on the roof.

The five people on the raft were drawn by his laughter and looked up. Ni Jianrong saw Ding Longyun and let out a cold grunt. His voice was chilling. “You bastard are lucky to be alive. I didn’t kill you yesterday. Let’s see if you’re so lucky today.”

Hearing this, Ding Longyun’s face darkened. Ni Jianrong’s words confirmed his deepest fear. His last sliver of hope vanished. It was clear that today they would have to fight to the death. Ding Longyun shouted his mockery: “Yesterday you abandoned your companions and fled alone like a stray dog. I can’t believe you have the guts to come back! And you dare to talk big? I’ve never met anyone as shameless as you!”

Ni Jianrong’s face fell, turning extremely ugly at his words.
