Chapter 193: The Terrifying Black Figure
by karlmaksThe two women opened their mouths, attempting to fight back, but the scythe slashed across their waists. The figure that suddenly appeared was right in front of them.
The horror was indescribable. Zhong Rongrong opened her eyes wide, feeling the world spin. She couldn’t even manage a scream and couldn’t understand why the corridor was rotating.
The moment she saw her lower body still standing in place, with blood surging out, she realized what had happened: she had been severed at the waist, and her upper body was falling. That was why the corridor seemed to be flipping over.
When her upper body crashed onto the floor, Zhong Rongrong’s eyes bulged. Her consciousness blurred. All the surroundings seemed to rush away from her. Her mind fell into a bottomless abyss, swallowed by endless darkness. In the end, nothing remained.
Qi Mengyu let out a piercing shriek. Her scream tore through the dark night sky. The scythe had sliced between her and Zhong Rongrong’s waists. Zhong Rongrong was instantly cut in half, her upper body collapsing. Qi Mengyu watched the horrific sight, shrieking in utter terror. She instinctively dropped down and vaulted over the corridor railing, leaping from the 44th floor of the building.
The black figure seemed slightly surprised. The scythe had sliced through both women’s waists, but only one had died. The other woman, though grazed by the scythe, had survived and leaped off the building.
The 44-story building had fourteen floors exposed above the water. Qi Mengyu had essentially jumped from a 14-story building, a height of nearly 40 meters. She plummeted like a cannonball.
With a “BOOM,” Qi Mengyu slammed into the water below, splashing a huge wave.
Below the building, Su Li and Gong Xiao, leading their counterattack, had gained the upper hand. Monster roars and screams constantly echoed, but Qi Mengyu’s scream, piercing the night air from above, drew everyone’s attention.
The people fighting below, and those responsible for logistics still inside the building, all looked up.
Su Li heard the scream carrying down from the building. His heart clenched. He instantly looked up and saw a figure falling from above.
He saw it clearly: it was Qi Mengyu.
Something was terribly wrong on the roof!
He knew the danger was immense. He said nothing, spun around, and activated “Spider Walk.” He shot toward the 31st-floor corridor and sprinted toward the stairwell entrance.
He did not check on Qi Mengyu because he knew she would not die.
Although others didn’t know it, Su Li was aware that the Spiritual Source Technique Qi Mengyu acquired upon reaching Level 5 was “Liquid Body.”
Her body could enter a liquid state for a short period, transforming her into a humanoid stream of water that was immune to all physical attacks.
Not only would falling 40 meters not kill her, but even being cleaved by a blade while in the liquid state wouldn’t kill her.
Su Li was the quickest to react. He instantly charged upward. Ding Longyun also reacted, running toward the direction where Qi Mengyu had fallen.
Qi Mengyu struggled in the water, surfaced, and saw the charging Ding Longyun. She shrieked, “Quick, go up! Sister Rong is in trouble!”
Hearing this, Ding Longyun’s heart sank. Ignoring the details, he immediately spun around and charged toward the building, his heart pounding violently.
Zhong Rongrong was not like Qi Mengyu. Although she had an ability related to her tongue, she didn’t possess Qi Mengyu’s near-immortal ability of a liquid body.
Even Qi Mengyu, who possessed the liquid body ability, was terrified enough to jump from the building. What had happened to Zhong Rongrong?
Ding Longyun was in a panic. He sprinted up the stairs, his heart hammering violently.
The figure that looked like the Grim Reaper—the black figure—after slicing through Zhong Rongrong and Qi Mengyu, paused. Zhong Rongrong was instantly sliced in half at the waist, but Qi Mengyu vaulted over the railing and jumped.
The black figure seemed slightly surprised, then realized what had happened. It seemed to understand the reason behind Qi Mengyu’s near-immortality.
The black tentacles around him began to move without wind. He sensed no more living people on this floor and vaulted over the railing.
He did not follow Qi Mengyu into the water. As he descended to the 43rd floor, tentacles shot out and grabbed the edge of the corridor window. Breaking the window, he slipped into the 43rd floor.
The 43rd floor was mainly used to store various supplies, including the Sea Cow Beast meat they had harvested. Furthermore, two people were left there to guard the supplies. They were both over 50 years old, a Level 1 and a Level 2 Wielder. They were responsible for cleaning the building. Su Li had given them a relatively easy job.
At this moment, they were standing in the corridor, peering out the window, quietly discussing the fighting below. Their faces showed deep worry.
Qi Mengyu’s scream and the subsequent scream from the top floor had terrified them. They exchanged panicked glances, unsure what was happening.
The younger man poked his head out and looked up.
Suddenly, he saw a black shadow and black, snake-like tentacles reaching into the room.
“Ah—”
He was startled and instinctively retreated.
The Grim Reaper-like figure silently broke through the window. The scythe in his right hand immediately struck out.
The strike was silent. The man had no time to scream. The scythe cleaved him in half from the top of his head.
The twisted human face on the scythe seemed excited. The massive mouth moved, sucking the blood from the man’s body.
The other man, in his fifties, was petrified. He turned to flee but found his legs weak, unable to move.
His body tensed with terror. He opened his mouth and let out a shrill, desperate shriek.
His scream abruptly cut off. His head flew off, carrying a spray of blood, and shot out the open window, plummeting into the water below.
The black figure watched the headless body fall backward, then vaulted over the corridor again, using his black tentacles to descend to the 42nd floor.
Su Li, meanwhile, was sprinting up the stairs. He activated “Spider Walk” and the “Demon Muscles” Second Form. His speed was terrifyingly fast. He quickly shot past seven floors, reaching the 38th floor. He then heard the scream from the 43rd floor.
His heart sank. He knew the two older men on the 43rd floor were likely dead.
The 42nd floor was where Xu Haishui, Luo Jun, Yan Fang, Bai Wenwei, Zhou Li, and Tao Yuezhi lived.
Xu Haishui, Luo Jun, and Bai Wenwei were fighting the High-Level Undead below. The only ones left on the 42nd floor were Yan Fang and the women—Zhou Li and Tao Yuezhi.
“Four more floors…”
Su Li thought silently. He pushed his muscles to swell again, entering the even more powerful “Demon Muscles” Second Form. His stamina was burning at four times the normal rate. After the previous battles, he knew he couldn’t sustain this state for more than three minutes. He would only use the Second Form when absolutely necessary.
He knew he had to reach them before the monster entered the 42nd floor, or Yan Fang, Zhou Li, and Tao Yuezhi would be in grave danger.
Yan Fang was a vital asset and must be protected.
The Grim Reaper-like figure killed the two men on the 43rd floor and, sensing no other living people, descended to the 42nd floor. Its black tentacles wrapped around the corridor, and it slipped inside.
It sensed many human scents on this floor. The face on the scythe twisted in excitement. Its large mouth opened, seemingly laughing silently.
On the corridor, Yan Fang, Zhou Li, and Tao Yuezhi were running to the stairwell, trying to escape downstairs.
The black figure entered the 42nd floor hallway. Yan Fang and the others were scrambling down the stairs.
The black figure moved swiftly. The scythe in his right hand swung out, cleaving two of the slowest people from behind.
Almost simultaneously, a piercing shriek sounded. Su Li, in his “Demon Muscles” Second Form and “Spider Walk” state, shot onto the 42nd floor.
“Get down quickly!” Su Li shrieked. The Dragon Rhino Sword in his right hand met the raised scythe. The two weapons clashed violently.
