Chapter 171: A-Building and B-Building
by karlmaksSu Li said nothing more.
The three rafts continued toward the Gold Eagle One A-Building, the closest to their position.
Gao Shupeng and Gao Shuxue’s group, whom they killed the day before yesterday, were residents of Gold Eagle One A-Building. Gao Shupeng had brought twelve people, and Gao Shuxue’s original group had seven. A total of twenty men. If all these men were from Gold Eagle One A-Building, it was safe to assume that only the weak, elderly, and infirm were left to guard the building, posing no real resistance.
When the three rafts arrived at Gold Eagle One A-Building, everyone stood up on their rafts, observing the building ahead.
They also looked out at the other two buildings in the distance.
The tallest, Gold Eagle One B-Building, was less than one kilometer away in a straight line, and the Shimao Center was only about 1.5 kilometers away.
The three skyscrapers formed a triangle, situated very close to each other. Jiang Shuijue had suggested to Su Li last night that he abandon the Purple Wind Building and move here. Su Li had been hesitant then, but now, seeing the location with his own eyes, he instantly liked it.
If they succeeded in taking over the Golden Eagle Alliance, their population would surely increase sharply. The Purple Wind Building would feel cramped. The three high-rises before them, however, could easily accommodate double their current numbers.
On the building ahead, they could see figures through the windows and on the balconies. The survivors inside the A-Building had already spotted the strangers approaching from afar and were observing them in secret.
On the 31st-floor balcony facing them, six men stood, all holding weapons, staring warily at the unfamiliar newcomers.
Su Li used the “Peering Rune” and saw that only one man was Level 6; the other five were Level 5 Spiritual Source Wielders.
The Level 6 Wielder was a man with a hook nose, who was quite ugly. He was originally a subordinate of Ding Shijie and had been dispatched yesterday to temporarily take charge of the Gold Eagle One A-Building and stabilize the morale of the remaining residents, who were followers of Gao Shupeng.
After Gao Shupeng left with his thirteen elites and failed to return, the remaining residents were deeply uneasy. Some had even gone to the B-Building to inform Ding Shijie of the situation.
Ding Shijie was the first leader of the “Golden Eagle Alliance,” residing in the tallest of the three buildings, Gold Eagle One B-Building, which he directly managed. Gao Shupeng was the leader of the A-Building, though his status was lower than Ding Shijie’s.
Ding Shijie learned that Gao Shupeng’s group of thirteen had not returned and were likely dead, but he wasn’t overly concerned. He simply sent a subordinate to temporarily manage the A-Building and reassure the residents, while he himself prepared to take over Jiang Shuijue’s group at the Golden Convergence Center. If successful, his next step would have been to absorb the Purple Wind Building, further expanding the “Golden Eagle Alliance.”
He never expected to run into Su Li, have his plan fail, and lose his life.
The hook-nosed man, the only Level 6 Wielder on the 31st-floor balcony, was the one Ding Shijie had sent to take charge. Seeing Su Li and his group, he remained confident. He didn’t know Ding Shijie was dead. He believed the “Golden Eagle Alliance” had over a hundred members and many powerhouses, including the formidable Ding Shijie. He didn’t take Su Li’s group of eleven seriously.
He guessed Su Li’s group came from some other small faction and weren’t strong, or there would be more of them.
The moment they spotted Su Li’s group, he had already sent a man to the B-Building, less than a kilometer away, to request reinforcements. He was confident the reinforcements would arrive soon.
Seeing the rafts stop in front of the building, he said sternly, “Where are you from? This is the Golden Eagle Alliance. If you wish to join us, you are welcome. But you must all put down your weapons, then come up one by one. Do not crowd or make any sudden movements, or we might misunderstand and attack.”
This standard speech was what Ding Shijie had taught him. Since the three high-rises were prominent landmarks, small groups of survivors or individuals seeking protection often came to surrender. He was prepared to welcome them and absorb them according to protocol. If they were hostile, he was ready to strike them down without mercy.
Ding Longyun laughed heartily. “We’re not here to join you. We’re here to take over. But you all must put down your weapons, then come down one by one. Do not crowd or make any sudden movements, or we might misunderstand and attack.”
Hearing Ding Longyun mock his words, the hook-nosed man roared in feigned anger. “Impudence! Where exactly are you from? Don’t you know where you are?” As he spoke, he looked toward the distance. Soon, he spotted two rafts sailing toward them from the Gold Eagle One B-Building.
The two rafts were packed with people, at least a dozen or more.
The B-Building was close. The reinforcements would arrive soon. Including the six men here, their numbers would be double that of Su Li’s group. The hook-nosed man’s confidence returned.
Ding Longyun looked at Su Li. “What do we do? Should we attack them now?”
Hearing this, the hook-nosed man’s face tensed. He gripped his knife and took a step back. The five men around him also looked nervous.
They sensed Su Li’s group was not simple, and the presence of three women, two of whom were extremely beautiful, suggested they might be formidable. They were only six men. They were tense.
Su Li saw the group approaching from the B-Building. He abandoned the idea of attacking the A-Building immediately and decided to wait for the B-Building group to arrive.
“Let’s wait. We’ll deal with them once they all get here.”
“Alright, I’ll listen to you.” Ding Longyun understood Su Li’s intention and put down his steel rod.
The hook-nosed man heard their casual conversation and felt a mix of anger and joy. He was angry at their arrogance but happy that they were arrogant enough to wait for the B-Building reinforcements. They’re asking for trouble.
The B-Building was less than a kilometer away. The two rafts carrying fourteen people quickly arrived.
The hook-nosed man waved and shouted, “Brother Rui, hurry up! We have a bunch of fools here who say they want to take over our building! Hahaha! It’s hilarious! They don’t know who they’re dealing with!”
The man called Brother Rui was in his twenties. He snorted coldly. “Who is foolish enough to seek death here?”
He looked over at Su Li’s group on the three rafts.
Su Li turned his head to look at the newcomers.
As their eyes met, Su Li suddenly realized that two or three of the men looked familiar, as if he had seen them somewhere before.
Brother Rui was speaking when he clearly saw Su Li turn around. His face instantly changed, as if he had seen a ghost. He leaped up, not toward Su Li, but into the water.
Plop! Plop! Two more men followed suit, jumping into the water after Brother Rui. They immediately swam away, struggling frantically, as if desperate to escape.
This scene stunned the hook-nosed man and the others. The eleven men who came with Brother Rui were utterly confused. Someone shouted, “Brother Rui, what are you doing?”
“Are you crazy? Why are you jumping into the water?”
The hook-nosed man and the eleven newcomers were utterly bewildered. Yet, Brother Rui and the two men were swimming away faster and faster, as if a terrifying monster was chasing them.
Su Li recalled the scene. These three men were among the Golden Eagle Alliance members who had attacked the Golden Convergence Center Building yesterday. He recognized them. They were lucky to have survived yesterday’s fight. They must have thought the danger was over, but now seeing Su Li, they were terrified.
The three had narrowly escaped death yesterday. They must have assumed the matter was over. Now, seeing Su Li, they were completely shocked. They didn’t care about anything else and jumped into the water to save themselves.
Their action utterly bewildered the unsuspecting others. The smarter ones among them began to feel uneasy.
Brother Rui and his companions had fled in disarray yesterday. Now, seeing Su Li’s group, they jumped into the water. Could this mean that the chaos yesterday was related to these eleven people?
The thought made them all uneasy.
Su Li saw the three men flee. They were small-time players, not worth chasing. He focused on the group before him. He smiled faintly at the remaining eleven people. “You came at the right time. We are here to take over these three buildings. You can put down your weapons and join us, or if you refuse, you can leave now. We won’t stop you.”
Su Li’s voice was calm, and his attitude was mild. But his words stunned the men.
“Take over these three buildings? Do you even know what you are saying?” The hook-nosed man, who had been put in charge of the A-Building yesterday, roared. He was in charge of over twenty people. He felt his power and interests were threatened. How could he allow this group of outsiders to destroy his authority?
