Chapter 150: Conflict
by karlmaksWei Cheng watched the rapidly approaching Purple Wind Building and muttered, “It is strange. Tao Bingjun isn’t among those five, nor are the others I saw last time. Did the Purple Wind Building gain a few more experts?”
He continuously scanned the air for scents. His expression grew increasingly astonished, as he couldn’t detect Tao Bingjun’s scent coming from the Purple Wind Building.
Gao Shupeng’s group of thirteen was spotted by a lookout when they crossed into the one-kilometer range of the Purple Wind Building. Remembering Xu Haishui’s instruction, the lookout immediately reported the sighting.
“Someone’s here already?” Su Li and Gong Xiao were surprised. They immediately got up, left the room, and observed from afar. They saw three rafts.
“Thirteen people! They got here too fast, didn’t they? We haven’t even been back an hour.” Su Li and Gong Xiao exchanged glances, finding it hard to believe. They wondered if it was just a coincidence and the thirteen men weren’t here regarding the killing of Gao Shuxue’s group.
“No matter who they are or what their purpose is, we must be prepared,” Su Li immediately called everyone together to prepare for the approaching group.
Xu Xuehui’s sharp eyes allowed her to clearly make out Gao Shupeng’s appearance even from several hundred meters away. He looked exactly like the slain Gao Shuxue.
After she reported this, Su Li and Gong Xiao understood that the man who looked identical to Gao Shuxue must be Gao Shupeng, the leader of “Gold Eagle One A-Building.”
“This is not good. They came looking for us so quickly. They must have some special method of knowing Gao Shuxue died. If that’s the case, we’re in trouble,” Gong Xiao murmured.
Su Li’s expression remained calm. “Let’s go down and see.” Although the opponents had thirteen people, he was not afraid.
This world no longer had law or order. Might made right. Whoever had the strongest fist dictated the rules.
Su Li led Gong Xiao, Xu Haishui, Luo Jun, Bai Wenwei, Jin Sixing, and a dozen others downstairs. They boarded their raft and paddled to the floating island, stopping about 30 meters away from the Purple Wind Building.
He planned to meet Gao Shupeng’s group on the floating island.
The island was large enough. If a fight broke out, his “Spider Walk” could be used to its full potential, and the open area of the island meant it would be hard for the enemy to escape once they landed. It would be much better than fighting inside the Purple Wind Building, where the narrow, cluttered rooms would make combat dangerous and inhibit their abilities. Furthermore, it would be difficult to kill everyone if they tried to flee through the many rooms.
Su Li’s strategy was simple: if a fight broke out, he would leave no survivors.
If he didn’t eliminate the root of the problem, the trouble would grow. He didn’t want to be constantly targeted, killing one group only for another to show up.
People were also gathered in the corridors of the Purple Wind Building, periodically looking out the windows, curious about the three rafts and the thirteen men, guessing their origins.
Gao Shupeng’s group also spotted the soccer-field-sized floating island from afar and were astonished.
“Wei Cheng, are those five murderers on this floating island?” Gao Shupeng narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Su Li and the others on the island, and the people sticking their heads out of the Purple Wind Building’s windows.
Wei Cheng twitched his nose and replied, “Only two of them are on the floating island. The other three are on the top floor of the building.”
Su Li and Gong Xiao were on the floating island. Ding Longyun was lying on his bed, his muscles paralyzed. Qi Mengyu and Xu Xuehui were ordered by Su Li to stay on the top floor; he didn’t want the two women to be exposed to danger, as Gao Shupeng’s group clearly meant trouble.
“Good. First, we’ll kill this group on the floating island, and then we’ll charge into the Purple Wind Building and kill the rest.” Gao Shupeng subtly nodded, giving the order. He gripped the longsword, and his eyes shone with a terrible light.
He shared Su Li’s mindset. Seeing the spacious area of the floating island, he determined it was the perfect place to strike. He decided to board the island and kill Su Li’s group first.
“These guys are foolish. They see a large group of us coming and they still spread out their forces? They’re weakening their own strength. That’s utterly idiotic.” Song Yuanqing subtly shook his head.
The opposition had only about a dozen people on the island, with another ten or twenty remaining in the building. Their numbers were not entirely advantageous.
Wei Cheng whispered, “They probably never imagined we would attack them outright. They expected to meet and greet guests who had traveled a long distance. To welcome guests, they wouldn’t send everyone. It’s perfectly normal for only a portion of their forces to come out.”
Song Yuanqing subtly nodded. “Your analysis makes sense. This will lead to their miserable end today.”
But they didn’t know that Su Li only brought about a dozen people onto the floating island because he didn’t want too many people getting in the way. Many of them had only recently reached Level 4 and were not proficient in combat. In a potential fight to the death, they would only be a hindrance, not a help.
The three rafts headed straight for the floating island. Su Li and Xu Haishui’s group stood at the edge, waiting to meet them.
“My name is Xu Haishui. Welcome, esteemed guests. Where do you hail from?”
Xu Haishui was all smiles. He vaguely sensed the newcomers meant trouble, but he didn’t know their origins or the fact that Su Li and Gong Xiao’s group had killed seven of their people. His curiosity was evident.
Gao Shupeng didn’t speak. Song Yuanqing gave a forced laugh. “We’re from ‘Gold Eagle One A-Building.’ Where is your leader, Tao Bingjun? Why don’t we see him?” He was still trying to keep up the pretense before boarding the island.
Xu Haishui’s heart skipped a beat. “Tao Bingjun has already left our Purple Wind Building. If you’re looking for him, you’ll be disappointed. He’s not here. You should try looking elsewhere.”
“Is that so?” Wei Cheng murmured. He thought: No wonder I couldn’t smell Tao Bingjun.
The three rafts quickly closed in to within ten meters of the floating island. Gao Shupeng’s eyes narrowed. He suddenly roared, “No need to look elsewhere! The people we’re looking for are you! Fu Tianhua, attack!”
He suddenly raised his voice, shouting out a name and giving a command.
Fu Tianhua, standing on another raft, had a blue tattoo on his neck. He was ready. White light instantly appeared in his right hand. He swung his arm, throwing the white light.
The white light streaked through the air and shot like a bolt toward Su Li and the others on the floating island.
“Dodge quickly!” Xu Haishui never expected the enemy to attack before boarding the island, and with a long-range attack, no less. He yelled, scrambling to take cover.
No one knew what the white light was, and no one dared to block it. They all scrambled to dodge.
The white light struck the ground among the group, exploding with a massive “BOOM!” The force was even greater than Ding Longyun’s “Air Missile.”
Three people screamed instantly. Three were hit, two were wounded, and one was killed instantly. The man who was slowest and closest was obliterated from the waist down. Only his upper torso remained, tumbling on the ground, his internal organs spilling out. He was screaming in agony, clearly beyond saving.
As Fu Tianhua launched the white light, Gao Shupeng and the others on the three rafts, gripping their weapons, roared and accelerated. They immediately leaped toward the floating island.
The group on the floating island was stunned by the massive explosion. Two were wounded, and one was killed.
“Kill! No survivors!” Gao Shupeng’s voice was raw and terrifying. He charged onto the island, holding his longsword.
Su Li activated the “Peering Rune” and quickly assessed the situation. The thirteen opponents included five Level 6 masters and eight Level 5s.
Their strength far surpassed Su Li’s group.
Su Li realized that if he couldn’t end the fight quickly, his side would suffer heavy casualties. Many people would be severely wounded or killed.
