Chapter 128: The Plot Succeeds
by karlmaks“Impossible! What’s happening… What is this… Why can’t I see anything… Why… why can’t I move…”
The voice was filled with panic, terror, and confusion.
Everyone heard the voice, and their eyes focused on the baseball bat lying on the ground. The expressions on their faces were varied.
There was bewilderment, surprise, incredulity, and shock.
“Such a thing actually happened…” Su Li quietly exhaled, then looked at Xu Xuehui and smiled. “Little girl, that was a beautiful move.”
Xu Xuehui beamed, revealing two small dimples on her cheeks.
On the ground, Zhang Ying’s remaining body was completely consumed by fire. The flames burned hotter, mingled with Zhang Ying’s frantic screams.
“Save me… Xu Haishui… Save me… I don’t want to die…” Suddenly, Zhang Ying pleaded brokenly for help.
She had heard Tao Bingjun’s terrified screams and knew he could no longer save her. She suddenly cried out to Xu Haishui.
Xu Haishui, who was still controlling the flames, felt his facial muscles twitch. He suddenly stopped, the flames on his right hand vanished, and he turned around, covering his ears, unable to bear Zhang Ying’s screams any longer.
Deprived of his control, the flames on Zhang Ying’s body immediately began to die down.
Su Li glanced at Xu Haishui, who had turned away and covered his ears. He knew that while Xu Haishui wouldn’t save Zhang Ying, he also couldn’t bring himself to kill her.
Su Li shook his head and stepped forward, swinging the Dragon Rhino Sword.
His left arm was severely wounded; the bones inside were shattered, and he was covered in cold sweat from the pain. He urgently needed Spiritual Sources. The tip of the Dragon Rhino Sword sliced along the floor.
The remaining large portion of the giant’s body suddenly rolled, raising a left arm to block.
The Dragon Rhino Sword severed the gigantic left arm. Su Li then noticed the giant’s body was splitting, like a cicada shedding its shell. The outer flesh was peeling away, and a naked woman’s body was desperately trying to climb out of the giant’s torso.
The woman was Zhang Ying.
She was completely naked and rapidly scrambling out. Ding Longyun, watching, instantly brightened. He rushed forward, eager to get a closer look.
Zhang Ying suddenly saw Su Li approaching with the sword. She forced a smile, slightly provocative, pushing her chest out, openly tempting Su Li. “Wouldn’t killing me be a waste? Don’t you think I have a lot of utility…”
Before she could finish, she realized Su Li was swinging the sword down at her head without any hesitation.
Her face changed drastically. Zhang Ying ignored her body’s exposed appeal. She raised both hands, and a flurry of foot-long blades appeared, spinning into wheels, forming blade shields to block the attack.
“Clang-clang-clang” rang out as metal clashed. The Dragon Rhino Sword was unstoppable. One rotating blade shield after another was severed and shattered by Su Li. Su Li spun around, moved to her rear, and thrust the Dragon Rhino Sword forward, piercing her snow-white back and emerging from her chest.
Zhang Ying couldn’t match Su Li’s speed. By the time she reacted, she looked down and saw the tip of the Dragon Rhino Sword protruding from her chest, bringing with it a gush of blood. Her heart had been pierced.
This was a fatal injury. A Spiritual Source flew out.
Ding Longyun hadn’t even had time to fully appreciate the sight when Su Li pulled the sword out. A bloody hole appeared in Zhang Ying’s chest where her heart was. Blood poured out.
He sighed heavily. “What a waste of natural resources! What a pity…” His voice was filled with regret. His eyes remained fixed on Zhang Ying’s body on the ground, unable to look away.
Su Li ignored his regret, sensing the Spiritual Source that had merged into his body.
“Level 5 Spiritual Source Wielder: Spiritual Source 33/70”
Killing Zhang Ying had yielded him three Spiritual Sources.
The Spiritual Source immediately turned into a powerful, continuous thermal current that surged into his injured left arm. His severely wounded arm was instantly enveloped and nourished by the energy. Torn muscles regenerated, and shattered bones reassembled.
The pain vanished. Su Li let out a sigh of relief. He felt completely refreshed and much more comfortable. He then looked at the baseball bat, which was still emitting Tao Bingjun’s terrified screams.
Gong Xiao and Xu Xuehui were gathered around the baseball bat, pointing and discussing.
Tao Bingjun was now trapped in a boundless darkness. He couldn’t move or sense a physical body, and he couldn’t see anything. He could only hear the surrounding voices. His heart was filled with terror. He continued to shriek hoarsely, completely unaware of his current state.
His Corpse Resurrection had never failed like this.
Su Li looked at Xu Xuehui. “Xuehui, how did you know that his resurrection worked on objects as well as corpses?”
Xu Xuehui whispered shyly, “I saw a shadow… fly out of the giant, heading toward the corpse. I just threw the baseball bat to hit it.”
Su Li asked, “And the baseball bat hit the shadow and ended up like this?”
Xu Xuehui nodded.
Su Li and Gong Xiao exchanged glances, then both smiled.
It turned out Xu Xuehui didn’t know the principle either. Her eyes, having been enhanced several times, were unique. At the moment Tao Bingjun activated his Corpse Resurrection, she captured the image of his “soul” and instinctively threw the baseball bat at it. Tao Bingjun’s “soul” was instantly sucked into the bat, trapping him inside the inanimate object, unable to see or move, confined as if in a prison.
Su Li said, “It seems that his so-called resurrection still has huge limitations. For example, he can’t freely choose the body he revives in. The moment his original body dies, his ‘soul’ is forced to possess the first object it touches, whether it’s a corpse or any other object.”
Gong Xiao acknowledged this. “If he possesses the wrong thing, he’s doomed.” She lightly kicked the baseball bat on the ground. The bat rolled away.
Tao Bingjun finally quieted down. He had heard their conversation and suddenly spoke. “So, I’m currently possessing a baseball bat?”
The idea that he had become a stick was unbelievable.
Gong Xiao smiled faintly. “That’s right, Mr. Tao. This baseball bat is very sturdy and resilient. It won’t break down anytime soon. You’ll be staying here for a very long time. And given your current state, you probably don’t need to eat or drink, so you won’t starve to death.”
Ding Longyun finally walked over and laughed heartily. “You mean as long as this bat isn’t destroyed, he’ll be trapped here for the rest of his life?”
Su Li nodded slightly. “Theoretically, yes.”
Tao Bingjun finally gave up his arrogance. His voice was pleading. “Everyone… I can submit to you. Help me get out! I’m willing to be your subordinate. I will obey all your commands.”
Su Li returned the Dragon Rhino Sword to his chest. Ding Longyun picked up the baseball bat and chuckled. “Too bad you missed your best chance. You said only one side could leave alive, Tao Bingjun. Farewell. No, never farewell!”
He used his right hand to throw the baseball bat far away.
With a “whoosh,” the baseball bat whistled through the air, carrying Tao Bingjun’s venomous voice: “You will all suffer terrible deaths! If I ever get out, I will kill you all—”
Ding Longyun laughed heartily. “Get out? You’ll be free when this baseball bat rots away at the bottom of the water. I estimate that will be in a few thousand years.”
The aluminum bat was hollow and light. It wasn’t like iron that would quickly corrode. Aluminum would resist corrosion for a very long time. Tao Bingjun would have to wait an unimaginable length of time for the aluminum bat to rot away. The world would have changed countless times by then.
Of course, he would likely suffer a mental breakdown long before that day came.
Gong Xiao frowned, glaring at Ding Longyun. “You’re too impulsive. Throwing it into the water like that isn’t safe. What if some monster destroys the baseball bat? He’ll just revive again.”
Ding Longyun defended himself. “Don’t worry. What monster would be interested in a baseball bat? Why would it destroy it? He’s going to be stuck at the bottom of the water forever. Besides, these monsters are only interested in flesh and blood. They won’t destroy a baseball bat. They haven’t damaged our raft, even after all this time. And we can’t keep carrying him around with us. That would be maddening!”
Su Li saw them arguing and intervened. “His condition for revival is very strict: the baseball bat needs to be destroyed, and there must be a corpse nearby. In this water, there are almost no corpses left for him to possess. And even if he possesses another object, he can’t get back to a living body.”
Gong Xiao looked at Su Li.
Ding Longyun accepted this with a smile. “Right. Even the corpses we threw down are quickly eaten by monsters. There won’t be any corpses left for him to possess in the water.”
Su Li said, “The probability of him reviving and returning is virtually zero. Brother Ding has already thrown him into the water, so let’s not dwell on it.”
Gong Xiao nodded slightly. She accepted Su Li’s reasoning. She was still uneasy, but the probability of Tao Bingjun reviving and returning from the water was indeed close to zero.
And now that it was late, the dangers underwater were immense. They couldn’t dive back down to retrieve the baseball bat.
The baseball bat, thrown by Ding Longyun’s power, flew for a full 70 or 80 meters. It finally lost momentum and began to fall, crashing heavily into the water and splashing water everywhere.
The aluminum bat was hollow and light, so it wouldn’t normally sink. But Gong Xiao had added weight rings to the bat to increase its weight and lethality. It was heavy enough to sink quickly.
“Heh heh… These fools. They think they’re so clever…”
From inside the baseball bat, Tao Bingjun’s sinister, triumphant laughter suddenly echoed.
Brown matter suddenly protruded from the surface of the bat. It quickly extended, forming two scaled arms.
“These fools were so smug, thinking I was completely trapped in this baseball bat, unable to move. They didn’t realize that even possessing this bat, even without a normal body, I can still use the power of these demon claws!”
“With these two demon claws, I can move and control the baseball bat. I just need to kill a monster first, get a corpse, and then use the demon claws to destroy this bat. I can then escape and possess the monster’s body, reviving again. Heh heh… Su Li, you wait for me! Once I’m free, I’ll find a way to kill you and take your body!”
“That chick with Su Li is gorgeous. Her body is incredible. Damn, she’s more tempting than Zhang Ying! Once I take over his body, I’ll live as him. That’s fantastic! Heh… heh heh… Too bad this baseball bat doesn’t have eyes. I can’t see anything. Damn, how long has it been sinking? Why haven’t I hit a monster yet…”
He thought to himself, moving the pair of demon claws. Since he couldn’t see, he could only swing them wildly.
Just then, he felt his pair of demon claws suddenly clamped by something. They were being pulled outward.
Without eyes, he couldn’t see and had no idea what was happening. He could only sense it through his demon claws.
