Chapter 124: Tao Bingjun’s True Ability
by karlmaksSu Li put out his hand to stop her, shaking his head slightly. “Not yet.” Tao Bingjun’s sudden decision to stay here so calmly must have a reason. Su Li still didn’t know his true ability. Wang Zhensheng could regenerate even after being decapitated. That level of ability was too bizarre. Without the devastating blow of the “Dragon Rhino Slash,” killing him would have been extremely difficult.
Yet, the bizarre and terrifying Wang Zhensheng was not the strongest of the leaders; his rank was still below Tao Bingjun. This led to only one possibility: the man before them was more terrifying and powerful than Wang Zhensheng.
Su Li had to be cautious.
Following Gong Xiao, Ding Longyun and Xu Xuehui also rushed out. Only Xu Haishui was missing.
Tao Bingjun was alone, yet he remained composed, even as more people appeared before him.
“Where is Xu Haishui?” Gong Xiao, not seeing him, asked Ding Longyun.
Ding Longyun replied, “He was eager to find Zhang Ying. Since there’s no danger here now, and the little girl and I caught up, we let him go ahead to search alone.”
Gong Xiao nodded slightly. She said no more. The priority was to deal with Tao Bingjun; the others were not a concern.
“Zhang Ying?” Tao Bingjun heard the name, his expression subtly shifted, and then, as if understanding something, he mused, “I see. So, Xu Haishui did this for Zhang Ying? He conspired with you and came back to kill us, didn’t he?”
“Interesting, interesting, ha, haha—” Tao Bingjun suddenly threw his head back and laughed wildly. He fiercely gripped the Kukri daggers in his hands, and his body blurred like a whirlwind, charging at the group with lightning speed.
He intended to take on all four of them alone.
“Step back! I’ll take him on first.” Su Li’s face showed solemnity. Tao Bingjun didn’t look like a lunatic, yet he dared to be so audacious. He must have a powerful hidden ability. Su Li feared Gong Xiao and the others would be caught off guard. He decided to test Tao Bingjun’s capabilities and find out what his power truly was.
Although his “Peering Rune” showed Tao Bingjun was a Level 6 Spiritual Source Wielder and possessed five special abilities and one Spiritual Source Technique, it couldn’t reveal the specific details of those abilities.
Su Li entered the “Spider Walk” state. His figure moved like lightning, circling Tao Bingjun. He brought the Dragon Rhino Sword down.
The pair of daggers in Tao Bingjun’s hands missed the target. Suddenly, two masses of brown matter swelled from beneath his black leather coat, rapidly extending outward, instantly forming two long arms.
These arms were covered in brown scales. Fully extended, they were over 1.5 meters long. Their ten fingers bore sharp claws, resembling grotesque demon claws. They lunged fiercely at Su Li.
“That guy has four arms?” Ding Longyun murmured. He and Xu Xuehui slowly retreated. He could see that Tao Bingjun was highly abnormal. If he chose to stay and fight instead of fleeing, he must have something unusual planned. For safety, Ding Longyun decided to keep his distance, and he was ready to lock onto Tao Bingjun with an “Air Missile” should he try to escape, initiating a long-range attack.
Gong Xiao also deployed her “Storm Shield,” sucking three nearby corpses into a whirlwind, compressing them into three flesh-and-blood shields. If Su Li was truly in danger due to a terrible hidden move by Tao Bingjun, she could immediately intervene, using the three shields to block the attack.
Tao Bingjun’s pair of demon claws were terrifyingly powerful. Wherever they struck, the surface shattered. Even the concrete roof couldn’t withstand them.
Su Li, in the “Spider Walk” state, circled Tao Bingjun rapidly, continuously cleaving the Dragon Rhino Sword at him with unstoppable force.
Tao Bingjun stood his ground, fighting back fiercely with his four arms. He used the two arms holding the daggers to block Su Li’s attacks, while the pair of demon claws on his back continuously lashed out in counterattacks.
But the Dragon Rhino Sword was simply too sharp. Although the two Kukri daggers in Tao Bingjun’s hands were made of extremely resilient titanium alloy steel, they were quickly severed.
The demon claws extending from his back met the Dragon Rhino Sword. The claws were protected by brown scales, making them harder than concrete, far more resilient than the Kukri daggers. The Dragon Rhino Sword couldn’t sever them instantly, but every strike pierced the scales, leaving deep gashes. A little more and they would be completely severed.
Gong Xiao, Ding Longyun, and Xu Xuehui watched the fight. They could tell Tao Bingjun was indeed powerful. With two indestructible demon claws and two daggers, his close-combat ability was extremely strong. His speed, strength, and reaction time were all top-tier. If Su Li hadn’t possessed the metal-cutting Dragon Rhino Sword, dealing with him would have been difficult; he might even have been suppressed.
Unfortunately for Tao Bingjun, Su Li had the Dragon Rhino Sword, which his daggers and demon claws couldn’t defend against. The sword firmly countered him. The outcome was only a matter of time.
As the demon claws were struck repeatedly by Su Li’s Dragon Rhino Sword, the wounds grew more numerous. Finally, one of the demon claws was severed and flew off.
Tao Bingjun roared in rage. He suddenly lunged recklessly toward Su Li, reaching out with both hands to grab the Dragon Rhino Sword.
To grab the Dragon Rhino Sword with his bare hands?
Su Li’s heart stirred. He thought of Wang Zhensheng. Could Tao Bingjun have a similar ability? Why else would he use his hands to grab the Dragon Rhino Sword?
Su Li’s mind raced, but he remained calm. He swung the Dragon Rhino Sword, ready to shred Tao Bingjun’s hands. Suddenly, the remaining, heavily wounded demon claw on Tao Bingjun’s back shot out over his shoulder and lunged for Su Li’s head.
Su Li understood. Tao Bingjun was willing to sacrifice his hands for this one strike with the demon claw.
But Su Li was prepared and wouldn’t be hit by the demon claw. He tilted his head back, slightly raised the Dragon Rhino Sword, and prepared to strike the claw from below. Suddenly, Tao Bingjun lunged forward, actively meeting the Dragon Rhino Sword with his body.
This move completely surprised Su Li. He never expected Tao Bingjun to be so desperate. The Dragon Rhino Sword pierced Tao Bingjun’s chest and emerged from his back. Their bodies were now locked close together. Su Li quickly pulled back, attempting to retreat, while swinging the Dragon Rhino Sword upward.
Unfortunately, he was a moment too late. By the time he sliced Tao Bingjun’s body open and severed the demon claw from his back, Tao Bingjun’s final, desperate demon claw had already wrapped around Su Li’s shoulder and dug into his back muscles.
Five sharp claws cut into Su Li’s muscle. Although he activated his muscle defense state, the claw was too sharp. The muscle hardening couldn’t stop it, and the claw sliced in a full five centimeters.
Almost simultaneously, the Dragon Rhino Sword struck the demon claw arm, severing it. The demon claw stump flew away.
Su Li gasped loudly, stumbling backward several steps. The moment just passed was incredibly dangerous. If his reaction had been a moment slower, the demon claw would have sunk completely into him, and his injuries would have been far more severe.
Fortunately, Tao Bingjun was killed. His upper body, sliced open, slumped down. Blood and internal organs spilled onto the ground.
But why had no Spiritual Source appeared?
A feeling of intense dread suddenly rose in Su Li’s heart. He violently shifted sideways. Almost simultaneously, a brown-scaled demon claw sliced past his waist, tearing his clothing and leaving several shallow cuts on his side. If he had reacted half a second slower, the demon claw would have pierced his body.
Gong Xiao, Ding Longyun, and the others watching the fight couldn’t help but cry out in alarm. The sudden turn of events was too shocking.
Su Li activated “Spider Walk.” His figure flashed away, creating distance. He turned and saw the corpse of a Corpse Beast rocking and sitting up where he had just stood. A scaled demon claw extended from its back. That was the claw that had just attacked him, nearly severely wounding him.
The Corpse Beast’s half-severed head was gone, its brain tissue missing. It had been dead for a long time, yet it was now staggering up. Brown matter extended from its back, quickly transforming into a second scaled demon claw.
“Heh heh…” The Corpse Beast opened its mouth, emitting a voice identical to Tao Bingjun’s.
“Consider yourself lucky to escape that! We’ll try again—” The Corpse Beast with the demon claws suddenly hunched over, charging at Su Li like a whirlwind. Its demon claws were spread wide, lunging at Su Li.
This sight made Su Li gasp. Ding Longyun couldn’t help but shout, “What the hell is that? Did that guy possess the body of a corpse?”
Su Li stared at the charging Corpse Beast. His eyes narrowed. He quickly calmed down, understanding that the creature before him was no longer a simple Corpse Beast—it was Tao Bingjun.
Is this his true ability?
Ding Longyun was right. This was a form of Possession (Jie Shi Huan Hun).
With no time to think, facing the charging Tao Bingjun, Su Li activated his walking state. The Dragon Rhino Sword in his hand swept diagonally downward.
With a “hiss,” the long neck of the charging Tao Bingjun was severed.
