Chapter 305
by fanqienovelChapter 305: The Heart-Seizing Demon
Under normal circumstances, The Saint would never be ambushed.
In battle, he used telepathy, one of his mind-related abilities, throughout the fight. With this mental shield, even the most skilled assassin couldn’t get close—you could hide magic waves, suppress your aura and sound, even stop your heartbeat, but you couldn’t stop thinking.
A wild beast acting on instinct would be detected by telepathy, let alone practitioners using complex skills while holding killing intent.
But the presence of a Thought Capturer changed everything.
Low-level Thought Capturers could only resist mind-related abilities passively, like Midi in his past life, who lacked high qualifications.
Mid-level Thought Capturers, though, could actively disrupt psychic energy, much like interfering with magic.
Take the bearded middle-aged man—his attack power carried strange psychic energy, making it harder for The Saint to use his mind-related abilities.
Forced to withdraw his telepathy and focus on offensive skills, The Saint left an opening for Midi’s ambush.
Three of the four attackers were seasoned Melee Fighters. The last, the Necromancer, lacked a living aura and stayed back.
Soon, they closed in on the sect headquarters’ twenty-member team.
Midi raised a hand—the signal to attack.
Golden-Red Sword Lights erupted around him, transforming him into a meteor that crashed into the enemy formation. Red sword light flashed, cutting down three enemies instantly.
“What?!” The Saint roared, eyes blazing silver.
A surge of psychic energy burst outward like a tidal wave—
Mind Storm!
A wide-area attack, perfect for close-range chaos.
But the Thought Capturer snapped into action. Dozens of energy bullets materialized in his hands, fired rapidly—some at The Saint, most exploding midair like a blizzard.
The invisible Mind Storm shattered under the barrage.
Such was a mid-level Thought Capturer’s power!
Midi pressed forward, undeterred.
Without The Saint’s support, the level 55-60 awakening experts fell easily. Each red sword stroke bisected an opponent. When surrounded, Midi’s golden-red glow swelled into a crimson storm, grinding enemies to dust.
Seconds later, only two paladins in heavy armor stood between him and The Saint.
They braced to stall Midi, buying time for The Saint.
But a wisp of smoke drifted behind The Saint. Avril, the dark elf, materialized, dagger gleaming.
Assassin skill: Kill Strike!
Caught off-guard by a caster’s worst nightmare, The Saint panicked.
A translucent shield flickered around him, barely blocking Avril’s venomous blade.
Mind Shield—another mind-related ability.
The shield cracked under the assassin’s assault, but bought The Saint enough time to cast again.
His eyes hidden beneath the hood flickered with silver light again, clearly preparing to unleash the psychic user’s signature technique "Mind-Related Illusion Formation". Once hit by this, Avril would be trapped in illusions, causing all subsequent attacks to miss while risking counterattacks from The Saint.
At that critical moment, blinding brilliance enveloped Avril, wrapping her in golden radiance like an angel descending from heaven.
Psionicist skill: Sun’s Radiance.
This skill temporarily boosted magic resistance. When cast by a Thought Capturer, it granted 70% of their psychic resistance during the initial seconds.
Though brief, the timing proved perfect – as the golden light faded, The Saint’s illusion technique struck.
Against an assassin with 70% psychic resistance, the hastily-cast mind attack failed completely. With a sharp cry, Avril lunged into The Saint’s chest, her poisoned dagger piercing his heart.
Assassin skill: Final Pursuit.
"Careful! He’s still alive!" roared the bearded middle-aged man.
Avril tried to strike again, but too late. The towering Saint clamped iron-like arms around the dark elf, unaffected by the heart wound.
Four slimy tentacles emerged from his hood’s shadows, writhing toward Avril’s face.
Midi arrived just as the tentacles neared her skin.
Golden-red sword light flashed. The Saint froze, his hooded head tumbling from broad shoulders.
The severed head resembled a pale blue octopus – rubbery skin glistening with mucus, pupil-less milky eyes, four death-twitching tentacles around its beak.
A blue octopus head sat atop a humanoid frame.
The Saint’s true form.
"Octopus monster?" Midi’s companions gaped.
"We call them octopus-headed guys officially named Heart-Seizing Demons," chuckled the bearded man. "But let’s finish this battle first."
Remaining Blue Truth Sect members kept fighting, but without mind-related abilities, their high levels couldn’t match Midi’s group. Reinhardt bisected the last opponent, ending the skirmish.
Though strangers, Midi’s crew had saved six Blood Purification members and slain a Heart-Seizing Demon. Suspicion of them being undercover agents faded. The hearty-bearded man welcomed these powerful allies warmly.
Soon both groups exchanged introductions.
Bearded Roy had been collecting herbs during patrol when ambushed by a poison needle warship led by Heart-Seizing Demons. Though weaker than Magic Griffin warships, its speed prevented escape without revealing their base.
Their aerial combat ended with both ships crashing onto a floating island. Without Midi’s timely arrival, Roy’s team would’ve been annihilated.
Blood Purification members found the octopus-headed Saint unremarkable – only outsiders reacted.
The Heart-Seizing Demon’s true form was this cephalopod head, explaining its survival despite heart injuries. But it required humanoid hosts – each demon’s birth sacrificed at least one awakened expert.
If damaged, they could seize new hosts through dark rituals, like this demon trying to possess Avril after she stabbed it.
Dangerous creatures indeed.
Fortunately, Thought Capturers suppressed mind abilities, and this demon proved weaker than Magic Griffin warship’s. Victory came easily.
"My friends," Roy stroked his beard, "why journey thousands of miles from Stormy Region’s edge?"
"To overthrow Blue Truth Sect and claim resources," Midi stated bluntly. "We need Blood Purification’s help. Take me to your leader."
Roy pondered before nodding decisively. "Come. No promises, but we’ll try."
