Chapter 397
by 林方方Chapter 397 Put Away Your Dangerous Thoughts!
“How’s it going? Any idea who he is?” Zhou Xianwei walked over and asked.
“No idea, not a clue.” Su Rui rarely encountered something this baffling. He let out a sigh — the three words “Song Yili” spoken by that mysterious figure had completely shaken him.
Last time he had sent Holman to the Song family to kill someone. They had nearly succeeded, but a mysterious figure in black appeared, using sheer overwhelming strength to go toe-to-toe with Holman and forcibly snatched Song Yili away.
That had all happened so long ago that Su Rui had nearly forgotten about it, yet now the mysterious person’s words had made his heart feel heavy again.
“The day we meet again is not far off.”
Those words from the mysterious figure kept echoing through Su Rui’s mind, giving him a vague sense that something was very wrong.
Song Yili had been missing for so long — once he reappeared, what kind of change would it bring to the entire situation?
What’s more, the other party had already made it clear that what they wanted was the new synthesis formula for tricozaminolone. In the eyes of those who coveted it, tricozaminolone was synonymous with Lin Aoxue! This left Su Rui’s heart utterly unable to stay calm.
“Is there any way to hand over the tricozaminolone and settle this once and for all?” Zhou Xianwei asked, troubled.
“There is one way, but it’s absolutely impossible to carry out.” Su Rui rubbed his nose. Even Apollo, who was always so spirited and high-flying, had lost much of his usual brilliance at this moment.
“What way?”
“Everyone involved in the tricozaminolone research dies — including Lin Aoxue. Once the people who know the secret are dead, there is no secret.” Su Rui narrowed his eyes as he spoke.
“But that’s completely impossible. Are you joking?”
“So the only option we have comes down to two words.” A sharp gleam flickered in Su Rui’s eyes, and his tone carried a faint fighting spirit: “Face it.”
“That’s why all twelve divine guards have come to Huaxia.” Zhou Xianwei chimed in.
“Because the beautiful Danielle Sharp has arrived, and the Hades will be back sooner or later.” At that, a dangerous glint flashed in Su Rui’s eyes: “Those people from the dark world won’t be able to hold themselves back forever.”
As he said this, every trace of weariness and heaviness in Su Rui’s eyes vanished completely. There were still far too many hardships and obstacles ahead waiting for him to overcome — if he already felt tired now, how would he ever walk the road ahead?
…………
Today was the true elimination round of the Huaxia Gang Decennial Tournament. For the competitors, after three days of rest and recovery, their energy and spirit had returned to good form.
Faced with an increasingly brutal battle, no one could afford to be careless.
As they entered the venue, Su Rui happened to run into the Yuanwei Gang’s group, and from a distance he spotted Wanyan Zhengyong.
Though he was missing an arm, Wanyan Zhengyong’s face showed little sign of dejection at this moment.
He still moved with the powerful stride of a dragon and tiger, appearing before everyone in a composed and dignified manner.
When people saw that Wanyan Zhengyong, the dominant lord of the north, had suddenly lost an arm, nearly every one of them looked as though they had been struck by lightning — they stared fixedly at that empty, dangling sleeve, utterly speechless.
What had happened?
He had been perfectly fine just three days ago — why was he maimed three days later?
Who on earth had the audacity to cut off one of Wanyan Zhengyong’s arms?
Whispers and discussions erupted all around, yet Wanyan Zhengyong seemed to hear none of it. His expression remained calm and undisturbed, like still water in an ancient well.
Having walked this path, he had long since prepared himself to lose his life at any moment. There is always someone stronger out there — this time he had merely lost an arm. As long as his life remained, what was there to be despondent about?
Without much thought, Su Rui walked straight toward the Yuanwei Gang.
That single move put the entire Yuanwei Gang on high alert.
It was clear that many people in that group had been present at the cinema that night.
Watching Su Rui approach step by step, they instantly clenched their fists. The torrents of blood that had rained down in the midnight cinema the night before flashed before their eyes again.
On that nightmare of a night, the Yuanwei Gang’s elite had been utterly overwhelmed by Su Rui’s twelve divine guards. Though there were only twelve of them, the gang’s hundred-plus elite members had stood no chance whatsoever.
They also remembered clearly how their revered gang leader, in order to save his brothers’ lives, had severed his own arm under the crushing pressure of this young man.
“Without my order, no one is to make any rash moves.”
Wanyan Zhengyong swept his gaze across the group and had already noticed several subordinates reaching into their jackets — clearly preparing to draw their guns.
If guns were drawn here, it would cause a massive scene, and the Yuanwei Gang would invite suspicion and hostility from all the other gangs.
“What is he coming over here for?” Wanyan Huazhong stood beside his father, somewhat puzzled. Why had Su Rui taken just a few steps in their direction and already caused such a strong reaction from the subordinates?
Wanyan Huazhong was still completely in the dark about the terrifying events that had unfolded at the cinema that night. Had he known about the heavy firepower Su Rui possessed, he would not have been nearly as composed as he was now.
As for the matter of losing his arm, Wanyan Zhengyong had kept it from his son all along, saying only that a formidable figure had come to take one of his arms. He was afraid that if this hotheaded son of his found out, he would charge off in a rage to settle scores with Su Rui.
Losing an arm himself was one thing, but he could not bear to see his son become the same kind of person.
Because of the matter with Ye Binglan, Wanyan Huazhong had long since taken a disliking to Su Rui. But fearing Su Rui’s overwhelming martial prowess, he had recently set aside his thoughts of revenge for the time being.
“Come on, it doesn’t have to be like this, does it? Are we enemies?”
Su Rui walked over with a grin, looking completely relaxed. His eyes seemed to casually sweep over the few people who were about to draw their guns, and he smiled pleasantly.
Hearing those words, the Yuanwei Gang members nearly spat blood — Are we enemies?
How did he have the nerve to ask something like that?
They had already shot at each other and killed people. If that still didn’t make them enemies, then people who fought until they were missing arms and legs must all be the closest of brothers.
“What exactly are you here for? You’re not welcome here.” Wanyan Huazhong called out. He didn’t believe Su Rui would dare lay a hand on him in front of everyone.
“I’m not here for you. I’m here for Gang Leader Wanyan.” Su Rui’s gaze passed over Wanyan Huazhong with contempt, then settled on Wanyan Zhengyong. “Gang Leader Wanyan, why don’t we find somewhere to have a proper talk?”
“What would my dad have to talk to you about? You arrogant fool!” Wanyan Huazhong stepped in front of his father, cutting quite a righteous figure at this moment.
“Who’s the arrogant fool here?”
Su Rui said it coldly, just that one line — and it sent a chill through Wanyan Huazhong’s entire body.
Because in that instant, Su Rui’s killing intent surged out and was directed solely at him. Young Master Wanyan couldn’t help but shudder, his feet instinctively shifting a step to the side.
“Gang Leader Wanyan, shall we step aside for a word?” Su Rui made an inviting gesture.
Wanyan Zhengyong gave a silent nod and stepped out from the crowd.
“Dad, be careful!”
Wanyan Huazhong waved his hand, signaling Master Yu and Old Tian to follow and provide protection — but the two highly skilled elders exchanged a glance and neither of them moved a step.
“Do you want to leave the gang leader’s safety to chance?” Wanyan Huazhong watched Su Rui and his father walk away, and couldn’t help but shout at the two elders.
“Huazhong, you don’t understand.” Tian Bingyi’s voice carried a faint note of desolation: “The gang leader has his own plans. None of us can influence his decision.”
“What do you mean?” Wanyan Huazhong caught a deeper meaning in Old Tian’s words. His heart suddenly tightened.
“Perhaps in a few days you’ll understand.” Old Tian let out another long, deep sigh.
At that moment, a line inexplicably surfaced in the mind of this elder statesman of the Yuanwei Gang.
What is destined to be yours will come in time; what is not destined for you, do not force.
Although Wanyan Huazhong already sensed something was off, he hadn’t grasped the gravity of the situation. He furrowed his brow and said, “I hate this mysterious act of yours. Can’t you just say what you mean straight out?”
Master Yu and Tian Bingyi had no intention of responding to him.
By this time, Su Rui and Wanyan Zhengyong had already walked over to a secluded corner with no one around.
“Do you smoke?”
Su Rui actually pulled out a cigarette and lighter from his pocket. Anyone who knew him well would have been utterly astonished at this, because Su Rui had never smoked. With his strict demands on his own physical condition, he would never allow his body to sustain even the slightest known harm.
Wanyan Zhengyong didn’t normally smoke either, but seeing Su Rui make the offer, he nodded.
Su Rui took out a cigarette, placed it in his mouth, and lit it for him.
Wanyan Zhengyong pinched the cigarette between the fingers of his one remaining hand and took a long, deep drag.
Su Rui did the same, then smiled and said, “From the look of you, you must have been a heavy smoker when you were young.”
“I used to smoke when I was feeling down. Haven’t touched the stuff in years.” Wanyan Zhengyong exhaled the smoke from his mouth.
“What kind of things would make you feel down?” Su Rui seemed genuinely in the mood for conversation.
“Like having an arm cut off.” Wanyan Zhengyong’s expression was stern.
“Is that a joke?”
“You can take it as one.” Wanyan Zhengyong finished the cigarette in just a few drags, which made it plain that his mood was very poor.
“If you only invited me here to smoke, then now that the cigarette is done, there’s no reason for me to stay any longer.” Wanyan Zhengyong said flatly. He flicked his fingers, and the extinguished cigarette butt flew straight into the trash can.
“My purpose is simple. I just want to tell you one thing.” Su Rui narrowed his eyes.
“I’m listening.”
“Don’t even think about reaching into Ninghai again — not this year, and not for many years to come. Don’t let that thought enter your head.”
A dangerous light flickered in Su Rui’s eyes: “If you don’t want the Yuanwei Gang to be completely wiped out within three days, then put away those dangerous ideas of yours.”
