Chapter 53: Analysis
by karlmaksThe multicolored sphere of light vanished. A palm-sized, rosy-cheeked little doll, wearing a small white robe and sitting on a book almost as large as he was, looked at Ace with an aggrieved expression.
Ace looked at the chubby face of the little fellow and couldn’t help but poke it with his finger. The sensation was good.
The little fellow looked even more wronged, seeming about to cry.
“No crying, or I’ll spank your bottom! Do you have a name?” Ace tried hard to keep a straight face and asked sternly.
“I—I don’t have a name.” The little chubby fellow choked back a sob but dared not cry.
“Then I’ll give you one. Let’s call you Fuwa.”
The little chubby fellow looked utterly unwilling but dared not resist, nodding miserably.
“Now, quickly and truthfully report your abilities, strengths, and weaknesses to your Master!” Ace said with a grim, fierce expression. The little fellow had almost driven him to a nervous breakdown these past few days, so he needed to give him a good fright.
“I—I have many, many abilities.”
“I can help you record and demonstrate things. It can be illustrated with pictures and text, and it can include sound and video. I can use Monster materials to create magical paper that can store a large amount of information.
I can also instill information directly into others’ minds. This can be used to pass on knowledge or send messages. I can correct errors. Whether it’s the academic research you’re doing, Master, or the Magic research you’ve pioneered, I can be of enormous assistance.
The correction ability also has other uses, such as tampering with someone’s memory.
I also have the ability to understand. I can use existing knowledge to predict and understand new knowledge and integrate it into my own knowledge system.
Because I was born based on your books, and you wrote Logic at the time of my birth, I gained special abilities.
The first is Retrieval, which allows for quick searching of existing knowledge. The second is Marking, a special recording that constantly reminds and flags things. The third is Concealment, which can, to some extent, blind people. The fourth is Deduction, which allows for the evolution and development of things to a certain degree.”
“To summarize, you have four ordinary abilities: the ability to manufacture information storage media and input/output information, the ability to disseminate information, the ability to correct and tamper with information, and the ability to understand the unknown. And four special abilities: Retrieval, Marking, Concealment, and Deduction.”
Ace summarized seriously.
“I still have a few questions. What is the difference between your special abilities and ordinary abilities? Why do you know the word ‘Magic’?”
“Special abilities are proprietary abilities. I am not the only Spirit of the Book in the world. Ordinary abilities are those that all of us possess, but special abilities are unique to me. Because you wrote the Magic Diary, the Spell Book, and the Rune Book, I was born knowing that you pioneered the great path of Magic.”
“I am actually your creation, Master.” Fuwa said pitifully and ingratiatingly.
“Get lost! I don’t have the ability to create a magical creature like you. What are your strengths and weaknesses?” Ace replied coldly.
“I am the best assistant, especially suited to help you research the reality of the world, Master. My weakness is that I have almost no offensive capability. The Dictionary and I are one. Once the Dictionary is gone, I will be gone. I also cannot leave the Dictionary too far, but I cannot move the Dictionary myself.”
After figuring out the situation with the Spirit of the Book, Ace decided to hide the Dictionary well. If he acquired a space spell or a space Wonder in the future, it would be best to hide himself there too.
In the evening, Ace once again checked Daina’s learning progress. Finding that she had basically understood all of the primary school mathematics, he immediately prepared several sets of test papers for her, asking her to complete them all the next day.
If she answers the test papers well, it will be time to teach Daina the knowledge of junior high school mathematics, Ace thought.
In the early morning, Ace began to meditate early. After his meditation ended at noon, he began to research Fuwa, the Spirit of the Book. His meditation effect had begun to decline. Since his mental power broke 3 Mental Power Units and his Mana reached 45 Mana Units, the meditation effect had been halved. Now that his mental power had broken 4 Mental Power Units, the meditation effect had been directly reduced to one-quarter of the original effect.
This made Ace worry whether he could reach the gate of a Formal Wizard in his lifetime and achieve the leap in life level.
Becoming a Hero is the greatest leap for a Divine Descendant. Once they become a Hero, their lifespan, physical functions, and even their life level greatly increase. Epic Tales records that ordinary Heroes generally live for over 200 years, with the longest-lived one surviving for almost 400 years.
He had Fuwa continuously demonstrate his abilities, trying to understand the secrets within. Knowledge, only knowledge, could change all of this.
Ace’s perception ability was continuously strengthening. While the Spirit of the Book cast its abilities, Ace perceived it little by little and had the Spirit of the Book magnify the magical effects as much as possible so that he could observe them clearly.
Between light and shadow, rune structures flashed.
Ace “saw” it. It was a complex, three-dimensional rune structure with extremely high Mana accumulation, which he could not observe completely clearly. He sighed slightly. Perhaps he would only be able to see clearly when his mental power underwent another qualitative transformation.
He continued to diligently trace the runes he could observe clearly, attempting replication repeatedly.
Two months later, it was autumn. The subjects of the estate were frantically harvesting wheat to earn more coupons. Ace stood on the west bank of the nameless river. Daina followed behind him, watching the people busy with the harvest.
“Actually, seeing a scene like this is very gratifying.” Ace said to Daina without turning around.
“It is all thanks to you. You are not only knowledgeable but also possess powerful organizational skills and execution ability to awaken the vitality of these slaves and create such a prosperous small society.” Daina said with an expression of reverence.
In the past two months, she had not only studied mathematics with Ace but had also learned a great deal from Ace’s daily words and deeds. Politics, economics, culture, society—Ace could offer unique insights in any field. She was somewhat fascinated by this level of wisdom.
Ace was also increasingly satisfied with Daina. She was very studious, insightful, and, more importantly, loved new things and possessed a fervent curiosity. These were precisely the qualities Ace believed an excellent Wizard should possess.
As for how to introduce Daina to the path of Magic, Ace already had a plan.
The partial runes Ace had analyzed from the Spirit of the Book were incredibly effective. Although they seemed to have no offensive capability, their immense auxiliary function was immeasurable.
He used his mental power and Mana Crystals to carve magical patterns onto magical paper. This miraculous structure, different from runes, was learned from the Spirit of the Book.
These were magical patterns that could be used to pre-program certain functions onto the magical paper.
Without the powerful deduction ability of the Spirit of the Book, a magical creature formed by formalized rules, this item would be impossible to create.
Even with the mental power of an Advanced Wizard Apprentice, which far exceeded that of an ordinary person, carving magical patterns was extremely tedious and time-consuming. It took Ace nearly a week to successfully carve hundreds of pieces of magical paper with simple magical patterns.
Ace stacked and refined the hundreds of pieces of magical pattern paper, ultimately forming six sheets. Each sheet could record a vast amount of information, including runes and Spell Models.
Supernatural information storage, magical signal transmission, covenant magic, transformation magic, illusion magic, equivalent exchange ritual, and the partial abilities of retrieval, understanding the unknown, and deduction analyzed from the Spirit of the Book—all pointed toward an interesting concept.
