Chapter 660
by post_apiChapter 660: The Calamity of Grim Batol
Orcs charged through the great door, forcing their way in. The tall drakonid at the entrance was covered in arrows but still swung its spear to block every soldier trying to rush into the prison.
The roars of the dragonlets echoed throughout Grim Batol; Nekros had lost control over the Demon Soul. No matter what, their queen was no longer under threat; it was time for revenge!
But Jesse had not finished his task.
He had no time to look for ways to destroy the Demon Soul. Deathwing could come to Grim Batol at any moment. He knew it deep inside…
But the task Krasus gave him was not done.
He threw the disc to Molofeel and pointed at Nekros, saying, "Make him recite the spell to free the Red Dragon Queen!" "Yes, master."
Molofeel handed the disc to Nekros, who knelt and gritted his teeth, nodding. His will was completely broken.
"Yes, my queen… my beloved… my everything."
Seeing Nekros lift the disc and start chanting the spell, Jesse sheathed the cracked Azuresong Mageblade and held his magic wand to his chest.
An Orc tried to sneak behind Greed to attack him. Jesse cast Curse of Agony on the Orc, making him howl and drop to his knees, clutching his head and chest. Jesse then pointed his wand at an Orc crossbowman aiming at Vereesa, and the bolt flew out wildly. The archer fell back, covering his eyes.
He cast Curse of Agony on every Orc he saw still fighting, ending them with Life Drain until the whole hall filled with screams and cries, and dark blood poured from the Orcs’ wounds…
Jesse didn’t know how long he fought, but he felt wide awake. Blood ran from his nose and eyes, covering his robe and arms.
As he battled with wild focus, loud clangs of iron chains came from behind him. The Red Dragon Queen pushed herself up, and chains that seemed unbreakable snapped like dry twigs, crashing down with a deafening roar…
Dragonmaw Orcs rushing in saw the Red Dragon Queen standing and hesitated at the door.
Her neck glowed red, and the air in the cage hall grew hot fast. Jesse yelled to Greed, who was still fighting Orcs, "Run, Greed, run!"
Greed turned and saw the Red Dragon looking his way. He jumped aside in fear as Alexstrasza opened her huge mouth, blasting flames through the doorway that burned everything in their path.
Jesse took the Demon Soul from Molofeel and stood to look outside. Hundreds of Orcs, dead dragons, and even dragon eggs… all turned to ash in the fire. The hall outside became a burning hell.
"The dragon eggs…" Vereesa said softly.
"Deathwing is almost here," Alexstrasza said. "I can’t leave him anything to use."
"Deathwing," Vereesa said. "I knew it."
The Red Dragon Queen whispered, "I thank you, brave warriors, but we must face the world’s most insane demon…"
"Can we call the other dragon lords here?" Jesse asked. "Get them to help us, whoever can come… as many as possible."
Alexstrasza lowered her head and said, "It’s too late now. Summoning other dragon lords needs strong magic and time… I have nothing."
Jesse wasn’t surprised; he had braced for no help from the other dragon lords.
"To be honest, this fight isn’t fair," Greed said to the Red Dragon Queen. "It’s six of us against him."
"Far more than six, dwarf," Alexstrasza replied, her voice hinting at a smile.
The Red Dragon Queen let out a low growl, and dragon roars filled Grim Batol—cries of dragonlets, shrieks of hatchlings, and even… a heavy sound Jesse never heard. Was that an adult dragon?
"Thal’dor, my love, I can’t sense Korialstrasz coming; he might be stuck and can’t help. We must rely on ourselves, these three warriors, and our two guests from the Twisting Nether. Do you know what we face?"
"A dear friend," a deep, rough voice came from the fortress. "I’ve waited long for this fight. I’ll battle for the queen till the end."
"This comes sooner than you thought, Thal’dor Lisstraaz? Old fool, I’ll give you a quick death!"
The deafening roar drowned all noise in Grim Batol. Jesse felt sick from the force, and Vereesa and Greed covered their ears. How… he came? So soon?!
Wild laughter swept the mountains, echoing through the fortress halls, and everything around them burst into flames. Boulders, walls, black fire swirled like a tornado around them…
"So this is…"
Greed stared at the flames around him, struggling to stand in the storm. "What you always wanted, Greed," Vereesa said through gritted teeth. "Deathwing!"
"Don’t forget your potions, both of you!"
Jesse warned as he cast Mage Armor and raised a dark shield against the sudden black flames.
Hearing this, Greed and Vereesa drank their Fire Protection Potions. Greed also took a strong Shadow Protection Potion, but Jesse doubted it would help much against the father of black dragons.
The Red Dragon Queen lifted her head, and Jesse looked up to see something he could barely believe…
The dome of Grim Batol shattered in one dark blow, bricks, statues, pillars, and stone slabs flying into the air from dark purple flames.
The destructive fire ate the stone hall until the Red Dragon Queen spread her huge wings to block it. The wind stopped the Shadow Flame but threw Jesse away to nowhere…
—Alexstrasza! Come… come!
Shadows fell from the sky like a storm of wind and fire, hiding the sun and covering all sight. Crimson eyes glowed like dark suns in the sky, watching the world…
The world spun, giant stones flew everywhere, and Jesse flailed in the air uselessly. The fierce winds tossed him until a sudden whirl left him in darkness, unconscious…
