Chapter 629
by post_apiChapter 629: The Ordinary Life
As he followed the old mage into the study, Malin pointed to a box wrapped in blue-patterned cloth on the nearby shelf and said, "This is the box Jesse brought in. It felt heavy, much heavier than the one in my house that holds gold."
The weight made him excited. He put it on the table and opened it, showing several bundles of coins. One bundle, when opened, was full of gold.
"These are rare Stromgarde gold coins," Malin said, picking one up and looking at the warhorse image on it. "The quality is excellent. Elves don’t often use these coins; they just store them to trade with us, so the money we get from them is very good."
He moved his lips and muttered a spell, then narrowed his eyes and said, "One hundred… sixty coins, Mr. Seso. My goodness, what exactly did you do for the Reliquary?"
"Is there really that much?"
Jesse took out a letter from under the pouch and opened it. It was from Vereesa.
"The Reliquary is thrilled with everything we found in Eldre’Thalas. They thought Dethmoora might be a Burning Legion demon but couldn’t find proof. What we found helped them fill a key gap. Here’s the payment; count it carefully, and say hello to Greed and Saenor for me. Also, Miss Asselwin Goldenthorn is being considered for promotion to Ranger Lord. Damn it, my Common isn’t good enough to say how I feel. I hope to see you soon and teach you some lovely Sayaad Language words you can use here. Are you happy for me, Mr. Jurke?"
Reading the last line made Jesse happy, but he also realized how important it was for Quel’Thalas to get information about Dethmoora.
Looking at the coins and remembering Vereesa’s mention of "filling a key gap," he wondered if the Reliquary knew about Ulthalesh too.
But according to Shandris Feathermoon, Dethmoora should know about many ancient magical relics. As a demon who stayed in Kalimdor for ten thousand years searching for artifacts to help open portals for the Burning Legion, it made sense he knew clues about treasures. The Reliquary might plan to trace those artifacts using the scrolls and Dethmoora’s demon heart.
If so, getting over a hundred gold coins wasn’t too strange.
This way, giving half the money to Greed and keeping the rest for a house seemed possible…
Of course, later costs like fixing up the house, maintaining it, and buying furniture would still need lots of money. He also had to see if his parents wanted anything extra, so he couldn’t spend the leftover money now.
Things went much smoother than Jesse thought; everything followed his first plan.
Maybe the Kirin Tor’s attitude wouldn’t be as blocking as he and Greed feared, only not wanting him in Lordaeron.
After all, his parents had no friends in Stormwind, and no one here knew them; who would care if he met them? The trouble would be less than in the royal city.
Thinking this, Jesse felt more excited about the day his parents would live in that house.
The next two days dragged on slowly. On the set afternoon, Greed and Jesse waited early for the agent and Lescovar family people to show up.
It was no surprise that Lescovar didn’t send any family member but a few servants. These servants dressed finer than even King Varian.
When Jesse put the bag of gold coins on the table, the jingling sound echoed, and his mind flashed with images: from Lordaeron to Stranglethorn, Burning Steppes to The Black Morass, deep in Eldre’Thalas and Maraudon…
Vereesa, Greed… imps and succubi, dead Felhounds, friends, and enemies. The Lescovar servants counted the money and looked at Jesse differently.
"Congratulations, Mr. Jurke," one Lescovar servant said, handing over a keyring with both hands. "This house is yours now. I hope you and your family enjoy living here."
Only after everyone left the house, leaving Jesse and Greed sitting stunned in the hall chairs, did he realize it was real.
Jesse Seso bought a house inside Stormwind’s walls, no, a house for Jurke. It felt like a dream, too smooth to believe.
Jesse had feared meeting a fake agent, or that nobles or their servants might act badly because he was foreign or used a strange fake name, or they might doubt his gold coins were real and cause problems…
Or that his saved money might be stolen by a mysterious black magic thief right before the deal… Even Molofeel couldn’t stop such a good thief, since over a hundred gold coins would catch the eye of Stormwind’s scariest underground guild thief, right?
Though Jesse only knew about this from bits told by a few mages or Erlan Drudgemoor.
He checked the property deed and contract, made sure the names were right, and looked at the keyring, amazed it worked out.
Greed sat on the other side and slapped his thigh, startling Jesse.
"Hey, Jesse, what are you thinking? Want to get a drink?" "Uh, yes, let’s go now."
Outside with Greed, Jesse still felt his heart pounding, unsure if it was from buying the place, excitement for the future, or something else.
Maybe six months of constant worry in Kalimdor had him used to random dangers, and he couldn’t shake that feeling yet.
Maybe daily life was just meant to be this plain.
Thinking this, he locked the door and turned around to see a figure in a dark red cloak standing by the canal, staring at him.
With the evening sea light behind, Jesse couldn’t see the face but found it oddly familiar. "Good afternoon, Mr. Jesse Seso."
The person took off the hood, showing long, light golden hair—a tall elf mage. Hearing the voice, Jesse suddenly remembered…
After speaking, the person glanced at Greed, who looked cautious, then smiled and looked back.
"Remember? We met at the Deepwater Inn in Menethil Harbor. Now, I have something I want to talk to you about alone."
