Chapter 586
by post_apiChapter 586: The Critical Point of Magic Depletion
Leaving the beach, the sentries led them deep into the jungle again, guiding them out of the Night Elf patrol range.
Jesse relied on the Soul Link to sense Molofeel’s presence, slowly following the feeling, hoping to find his two demon servants hiding sooner.
Through the Soul Link, he could also feel the demons continuously approaching towards him.
When leaving Maraudon, Jesse thought about the summoning spells written by the Satyrs on scrolls. Wasn’t that a fixed way of summoning?
If he could make modifications, like removing complex statements and refining sentences specifically used for summoning particular demons, could he change some names or details to summon Molofeel or Saenor instead?
This way, they can hide in a corner of the Twisting Nether and summon when needed, isn’t it much more convenient? They don’t always have to risk having a demon around, causing unnecessary trouble.
Night fell quickly, and a few people decided to leave the main road and find a relatively dry place to rest for the night.
Unfortunately, it started drizzling shortly after they set out, and the group found an ancient stone hut in the middle of the forest that had collapsed halfway as a shelter.
The stone hut seemed like a lookout post or a lonely shrine in the forest, Jesse couldn’t say for sure what it was used for.
Half-buried stone pillars were scattered around, and part of the stone hut itself was buried in the soil. Inside, the slanted floor was covered with various plants.
Maybe this was once a tall tower, with only a small portion of it still visible.
Despite their good luck in finding a shelter from the rain quickly, they still got a little wet. Their cloaks were soaked, dampening everyone’s mood.
However, even getting wet in the rain didn’t spoil Greed’s enjoyment of his new armor. He stroked the large insect carapace chest plates on his chest and asked, "Do you think it’s real or fake that these insect shells don’t have any strange smell?"
"You’ve asked that countless times, Greed," Jesse said. "I wish we hadn’t accepted that general’s offer, then you wouldn’t be so troubled."
"It’s getting late now!" Greed said with a smile.
"Jesse, what did you talk about when you gave her the demon’s head?" Vereesa asked.
"I asked a question," Jesse said. "About the tracks of the Silithid running out of Silithus. My Alchemist friend in Stormwind wanted me to help look for Silithid in Kalimdor to see if it could help with alchemy potions."
"Are there any in this forest?" Greed asked.
Jesse said, "Yes, probably in the south. If we want to go to Eldre’Thalas, we should keep going east along this road to the deepest part of the forest, so it’s not on the way. We don’t have to actively look for it, let’s go to Eldre’Thalas first. After all, I need to get some materials from the insects and bringing so much stuff into Eldre’Thalas will slow down our investigation. Besides, the nest will still be there waiting, it won’t run away."
"What about your demon servants?" Vereesa asked curiously. "Won’t they encounter other sentries?"
Jesse frowned, feeling the strength of the Soul Link, and said, "No, she seems to have already left us…"
Before he could finish speaking, Molofeel suddenly rushed in from outside and tightly hugged his neck. Her skin, already cold, felt even colder on Jesse’s neck after being drenched in rain.
She looked at Vereesa with a hint of provocation and asked, "Do you want me to be taken out by sentries, Quel’dorai?"
"Of course not," Vereesa said.
The succubus squinted, stared at the ranger carefully for a while, and said, "You don’t seem to be lying."
"Of course she doesn’t want you to die, Sayaad!" imp jumped from the succubus’s neck to Jesse’s neck and said, "You saved her life! Oh, but you’re a demon, mortals hate demons! She should want you dead, it’s so contradictory!"
"Why would I want you to die?" Vereesa inserted the golden dagger into the ground, tying the boot straps, and said, "Don’t think that just because you saved me once, even if we don’t know each other, you haven’t hurt me or threatened me in any way."
"Not only will I not threaten you, I’ll also protect your safety. If you keep wanting me to die, it will break my heart," the succubus said softly, with a smile that wasn’t really a smile on her face.
Vereesa didn’t say anything, just awkwardly lowered her head.
Molofeel glanced at her lightly, didn’t say anything more, and turned to say, "Master, not far away in the ancient ruins, there are Ogres hiding, we need to be careful of their ambush…"
Greed muttered, "I’m not surprised, if they can occupy Eldre’Thalas, they can take over other ruins too."
"Have you found the location of Eldre’Thalas these days?" Jesse asked.
"Two days won’t be enough for this lazy one to reach there, master!" Saenor joked, saying, "I did urge her seriously to go help the master explore, but it was no use. But I’m not speaking up for her. Eldre’Thalas probably still needs another four or five days of walking along the main road. I can sense the magical waves that have been there for who knows how long, it’s quite impressive. Those Highborne indeed have their extraordinary ways!"
"I can feel it too," Vereesa said, closing her eyes. "I can even feel… heartbeats…"
"Exactly!" imp exclaimed. "The heartbeat of that powerful demon trapped, supplying energy to the entire city!"
"I can hardly feel anything now," Molofeel complained.
"That only proves the effectiveness of the elf demon seal," Saenor chuckled.
"No," succubus whispered from behind. "It’s because my magic has run out, master. We agreed that you would replenish my magic as soon as we came out of that dungeon, remember?"
"It’s not a good time now," Jesse said.
Molofeel suddenly darted in front of Jesse and looked into his eyes, asking, "Master, your magic has fully recovered long ago, I can feel it. So why not?"
She glanced at the others nearby, softly asking, "Is it because they’re around? Can we find a corner…?"
The rain kept getting heavier, almost drowning out the voices of the two people. The others in the collapsed temple were quietly eating in different corners, either staring into the forest in a daze, not hearing, or pretending not to hear.
Jesse squinted his eyes, feeling that Molofeel seemed especially impatient.
