    Chapter 582: The Missing Shen’dralar

"Shen’dralar are a group of nobles," Shandris explained. "Originally, Eldre’Thalas was built as a fortress to defend against troll invasions from Zandalar. Later, when the trolls were defeated and the city was chosen as the southern capital of Azshara’s empire, it became a treasury for collecting and safeguarding the empire’s secrets. The nobles who guarded this treasury were called Shen’dralar, and they eventually became the rulers of the city."

"All Shen’dralar are Quel’dorai, but not the same as your Quel’dorai," she told Vereesa. "The newcomers dubbed them Highborne, which was quite fitting. They lived in lofty palaces, separated from the forests and cottages by silver and purple walls… Of course, you must have heard of them."

    Vereesa nodded.

"Dethmoora is likely one of the members of Shen’dralar. According to our investigation, she had been living in Eldre’Thalas since the War of the Ancients period. However, she escaped from there because everyone in Eldre’Thalas had been tainted by demon energy… They summoned a terrible void demon to quench their thirst for magic in place of the Well of Eternity. Therefore, we cannot allow these escapees to roam freely around Kalimdor, causing chaos at will. We must monitor their actions."

"So where is she now?" asked Greed.

"We lost track of her approximately a hundred and twenty years ago," Shandris Feathermoon said. "We tried to locate her again, but to no avail."

Upon hearing this, several individuals couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed, thinking that they might have found their target without entering Eldre’Thalas directly.

"Could she have gone to our side?" Greed couldn’t resist asking.

"Impossible," Vereesa replied. "If she were on the other side, the Reliquary would have unearthed her long ago. She wouldn’t leave even a trace of magic, Greed."

"We found some clues from the Satyrs in Maraudon, General Shandris," Jesse said. "Those Satyrs are planning to summon a demon that is likely closely related to Dethmoora into Maraudon for some purpose. This demon should be a Doomguard, or in other words, an Ered’ruin."

"I know what demon that is," Shandris nodded.

Vereesa added, "We suspect that demon may be a servant of Dethmoora, imprisoned in the dungeons of Eldre’Thalas."

"So, it seems like these Satyrs also want to find Dethmoora?" Shandris asked.

"We haven’t figured out their specific plans yet," Jesse said.

"What do you think the Satyrs’ goal is, General?" Vereesa asked.

"Satyrs have been collecting magical artifacts left by Kaldorei nobles," Shandris said. "They want to gather enough power to summon even stronger demons into this world. If I were to guess, Dethmoora must know many related secrets, like the location of treasures, considering she might be a member of the Shen’dralar… Do you remember what I said earlier? The Shen’dralar are the guardians of the vaults of the Eldre’Thalas Empire."

"Is the vault still there?" Jesse asked.

"The vault is still there, but hardly any treasures remain inside," Shandris said. "Over thousands of years, many treasures have either escaped with the exiles, or were consumed by the nobles inside, leaving them as mere decorations without magical power. These treasures helped most Kaldorei survive the most difficult millennium from the Cataclysm to the demons being summoned."

Greed said, "I don’t quite understand one thing, General Shandris. Why do you describe this city as a prison, and is it difficult to leave? If it’s so scary there, why do so many elves choose to stay?"

Shandris Feathermoon hesitated before saying, "Leaving Eldre’Thalas means giving up immortality, which is understandable. But the demon’s power is not unlimited. More refugees are fleeing now because the rulers have started executing Eldre’Thalas residents to slow down the draining of magical energy."

After hearing this, Greed sat on the nearby railing and muttered, "That’s a tough choice."

"If you have no other questions, it’s getting late," Shandris said. "If you are really planning to go to Eldre’Thalas, rest well for the night."

Jesse looked at Vereesa beside him, who seemed a bit down. Greed shook his head, and Mosa had nothing to say. Jesse then said, "We have no more questions. Thank you, General Shandris."

Shandris nodded slightly at Jesse, then left. Jesse, as a leader of the guards of his species, found Shandris Feathermoon surprisingly humble, even towards a mercenary from another race like him.

After getting their luggage back, Jesse and his companions followed the sentries to a room’s wing. In a pavilion where they could see a small pond outside, a Night Elf woman offered food wrapped in leaves on a wooden tray. As soon as she left, Greed couldn’t resist flipping open all the leaf wraps.

"Pickles, salted vegetables, apples? Radish… fish! Goodness, is this fish, Jesse Seso?"

Whispering in amazement, he picked up a juicy piece of fish and took a big bite, then urged Vereesa beside him, "Hurry up, young lady, try it!"

Vereesa nodded, but didn’t seem very enthusiastic.

Jesse glanced at her strangely, but didn’t pay too much attention since he was very hungry.

He quickly flipped over a nearby leaf and found a large piece of raw clam meat inside.

Picking up a piece and putting it in his mouth, he found it to be fresh and tender, with a pleasant taste. He wondered how the Night Elves found such clams and what special way they used to prepare them.

Everything in the Night Elf’s living quarters, food, weapons, and tools gave Jesse a feeling of rough simplicity, yet everything was just right, making him feel comfortable using or being in their surroundings.

"More meat, more meat," Greed saw the clam meat on Jesse’s side and reached out, saying, "Let me try this, Jesse, you also try the one I have…"

The two of them quickly devoured the limited variety of meat on the table. Vereesa hesitated at first, but seeing the meat disappearing and Mosa almost finishing the vegetables, she joined in the feast. Soon, they cleared the table of all the food.
