Chapter 579: Feasible Plan to Infiltrate the Ancient City

The next morning, the whole forest was still foggy. Jesse felt a dull pain in his shoulder and a bit dizzy when he opened his eyes.

His hands were tied, so he couldn’t check his injuries. He felt like he was bruised all over, just from the splash into the river earlier.

The pain on his back was probably from the bump by Rexxar. The wound where the axe blade grazed his shoulder had been hastily bandaged, but it still hurt badly.

On the first day, he was tied up and walked all day, to be honest, he didn’t feel much, and even joked with Halforcen.

When he woke up, not sure if the self-paralyzing effect of the Shadow Power had worn off, wave after wave of pain washed over him. Not to mention how much longer he had to walk next, even standing up didn’t feel easy for him.

They were still within the dense forest, everything looked the same, except the road here was wider, and you could even see pieces of broken bricks on the ground.

In theory, this should be the road built here more than ten thousand years ago when Eldre’Thalas was not yet destroyed, leading to the regional capital. After so many years, traces were still preserved. The plants had not completely swallowed these bricks. It must be the result of a terrifying magical energy trying hard to maintain it.

When Rexxar opened his eyes, he saw Halforcen sitting across from him, staring without blinking, Misha sleeping soundly, her whole body rising and falling with the rhythm of her breath, Halforcen’s body swaying slightly.

"Human, I don’t understand one thing," he spoke in Orcish, "If you’re neither Gul’dan’s student nor a servant of the Ogrewarlock, how did you learn our language?"

"School," Jesse confessed. "Some of us wanted to learn your language and understand more about your tribe."

"It’s a bit more boring than I imagined, but it’s okay," replied Rexxar.

Jesse asked, "When does the Ogre hold their sports competition that you mentioned yesterday?"

"Monsters are everywhere, but they only hunt one by one," Halforcen spat disgustedly, continuing, "If you want to see the big competition, you’ll have to wait for about a few weeks, I guess. I don’t really care about the exact time."

Jesse nodded, and Vereesa asked, "What are you talking about?"

"The Ogres in Eldre’Thalas are hosting a sports competition," Jesse introduced to her, "I want to learn more about it."

"Ogre’s sports competition? Is it similar to the arena in Gurubashitroll? Are you planning to join the competition to earn money?" Vereesa looked at him in disbelief and said, "I absolutely will not help you fight and kill in the arena, Jesse."

"I won’t either," the Tauren grumbled unhappily.

"Who’s going there to fight desperately? I’m not Greed," Jesse glared at the two of them and said.

"Wha… what? Who’s calling me?" Greed, who was beside them, opened his eyes and looked over, asking dazedly, "Is there another monster ambush?"

Vereesa looked over at the dwarf, then back at them, looking visibly relieved.

"Then why do you still care about this competition?" she asked.

Jesse approached quietly and said, "He said that the Ogre clan is very keen on sports competitions. I am thinking, should we dress up as gladiators or spectators during the Ogre sports competitions and sneak into the city?"

Greed whispered, "With all these bags and weapons, how can we pretend to be spectators?"

"Then we can only pretend to be there to fight," Jesse said.

Vereesa sighed. At that moment, the Night Elf sentry captain approached. Greed was about to say something, but seeing her getting closer, he closed his lips.

The captain said something to the sentries nearby. The sentries signaled for Half-orc to stand up, Misha lazily lifted her head, and Rexxar stood up and said to them, "Goodbye, little ones."

After speaking, Rexxar chuckled and followed the sentries down another path. Greed looked at the sturdy figure of Half-orc and asked, "Why did he leave on his own? Doesn’t he need to go to your fortress?"

"He is just a wanderer who likes to cross borders. Giving him some food and sending him away is enough," the sentry captain said. "But you are outsiders tainted with dark magic. To let you go, we need the general’s approval."

"Hmm… darn it," Greed tapped the tree behind him with his head and said, "We killed a Satyr named Vyletongue, and his head is in our luggage. You will definitely find it. I don’t know if you know him or not, but those Cenarius…"

    "Cenarius," Jesse reminded.

"Yes," Greed continued, "Cenarius’s children all know of his existence and even thank us for getting rid of such a troublemaker. Doesn’t this prove that we are on the same side as you?"

"Don’t waste time talking with them, Greed," Vereesa said. "These stubborn female soldiers don’t recognize anything except their general and priestess."

The sentry captain looked at Vereesa and said, "Believe me, Quel’dorai, we have witnessed for years a man who claimed to defeat demons with the power of demons. The trouble he brought was significant enough."

After hearing this, Vereesa couldn’t say anything for a moment.

She glanced at Jesse, her eyes showing a mix of emotions. Jesse didn’t say anything, knowing he had nothing to argue about.

"It’s time to go. I hope you’ve rested enough," the captain beckoned and blew a whistle. The large cats crouching nearby stood up one by one in response to the call. The sentries had also gathered neatly at the intersection, ready to head west.

Unable to contain his curiosity, Greed asked, "Who was she talking about? Using demon powers to defeat demons…"

"Illidan Stormrage," Vereesa whispered. "Legend says that he used the power of demons to destroy the Legion’s portal invading Azeroth, and also destroyed the Well of Eternity, causing the catastrophe that split ancient Kalimdor."

"Is that true?" Greed asked. "I mean, did the earth really tremble and split because of the magic of these few individuals?"

Vereesa shrugged and said, "I can’t tell you this. You should ask the Kaldorei here. They might have lived for ten thousand years and seen it with their own eyes."

The ranger finished speaking and stood up, following the footsteps of the sentry.

Jesse knew this was true. Greed stood behind, staring for a while, then glanced at the Night Elf sentry beside him. He was unsure if he was amazed by the earth-shattering event or shocked that some elves might have lived for ten thousand years.
