Chapter 563
by post_apiChapter 563: Cave-Dwelling Giant Beast
Continuing forward to the edge of the waterfall, looking up, the light above was no longer a faint line but a wide sky.
If you look from the outside in, you might think there is a wide pit inside.
Both the nearby and faraway walls are covered with uneven stone columns, resembling raised Buddha palms.
In between these "fingers" are numerous waterfalls of different sizes, pouring into a wide lake below.
The stone pillars here look completely different from the buildings of the Highborne. They are rough and uneven, seemingly formed by some violent magical influence or perhaps due to a terrain change caused by Theradras’ anger, resulting in a unique landscape formed by the rapid growth of rocks.
While Vereesa, Mosa, and Greed were captivated by the spectacular views here, Jesse kept a close eye on the pool behind them and the deep mountain streams, as well as the situation inside the cave.
He remembered that there were quite a few malicious elemental creatures here, along with a group of chaotic Dryads attacking invaders.
Dryads are also descendants of the Demigod Cenarius, similar to Zaetar. Their lower bodies resemble deer while their upper bodies look like beautiful, petite female elves.
There are far more Dryads than the strong and tall sons of Cenarius. Therefore, they serve as scouts and servants. In the game, countless corrupted Dryads hide deep within Maraudon, but Jesse didn’t see a single one here.
Of course, there was no sign of their leader, the corrupted son of Cenarius who stayed here to guard Zaetar’s tomb. Jesse had already forgotten his name.
"So, how should we proceed next, do we have to jump down?" asked Greed quietly, glancing down and saying, "Jumping from this height into the water might break my butt."
"Instead of worrying about getting hurt, we should be concerned about that thing," Vereesa pointed to the middle of the pool.
Everyone looked in the direction she pointed, Jesse saw a white snake-like figure slowly approaching from afar, gently swimming on the lake surface, it was a snake-like creature’s head, reminding Jesse of photos of the Loch Ness Monster.
As it turned back to swim, another head emerged from the water, then another head, it was a white three-headed snake creature…
This is Wavethrashing deep in Maraudon, after all three heads emerged, it swiftly plunged into the water and disappeared, leaving only slowly spreading ripples, intertwining with the splashes from the waterfall.
From this high place, the monster seemed small, but everyone knew it was just an illusion created by the vast chasm.
In reality, its size could be unimaginably huge.
"We better not provoke it," Greed swallowed nervously.
"We better not provoke anything here," Vereesa added, pointing to a cave entrance under the distant rock wall, saying, "The water here flows deep into that direction, maybe if we follow these rivers, we may eventually find a way out."
Greed looked up at the sky and said, "From here, we can see outside… I can’t help but want to go deeper."
"Unless you can fly," Vereesa said, "I’m not going to try climbing out of here with you."
"How did you know I wanted to climb out?" Greed asked.
"You’ve been staring at the walls too long. It’s obvious what you want to do," Jesse pointed to a nearby cave and said, "Let’s see what’s inside, maybe we can find another way down."
Apart from that cave, there’s only the waterfall, and it doesn’t seem like there’s any other way to go after observing it.
Clearly, this cave has been severely affected by the recent earthquake, with fresh rock faces and scattered gravel everywhere. After walking down the cave for about ten minutes, we stepped into a shallow pool – the cave was flooded.
However, until we left the cave entrance, it was only shallow water. Once outside, it was clear, and a calm lake was right in front of us.
Greed looked up high and pointed to a few giant rocks at the top of the waterfall and said, "Is that where we were standing when we looked down earlier?"
Vereesa nodded and said, "But keep quiet, Greed. Do you remember the monster we saw up there? It’s right ahead now…"
"I know even without you telling me!" Greed mumbled, stepping on the water and walking forward.
At this time, there were no waves on the lake, and Wavethrashing was nowhere to be found. Approaching the edge of the rocky wall, it was all shallow water. Several people watched the lake while trying to minimize the noise of stepping on the water, moving towards the entrance of a cave ahead.
The closer they got to the wide and huge cave in front and the thick stalagmites, the harder it was to control their steps. As they were about to leave the lakeshore, Greed almost started to run.
After rushing into the cave, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The lake behind them remained calm with no ripples…
Next, they continued forward along the river, searching for an exit.
However, Jesse knew that Wavethrashing wasn’t just swimming in the lake… They also existed between the huge stalagmites connecting the cave ceiling and the pools of water.
A few people walked towards the depths of the cavern, back against a stalactite to shield their shadows. Just as they left the stalagmite, Saenor grabbed Jesse’s robe and shook it, saying, "Master… over there!"
"What?" Jesse looked in the direction pointed out by the imp and saw a snake’s head poking out from behind another pillar in the distance, staring straight at them!
"Run!" He patted Vereesa behind him, while Greed and Mosa, who were still watching the lake, suddenly turned around. They saw one snake head after another emerging from behind the pillars, startling dwarf who gasped.
Everyone ran frantically towards the depths of the cave, splashing water everywhere. The wide cave chamber echoed with the sound of splashing water and footsteps splashing in the water.
However, the multi-headed serpent was enormous, dragging a long thick tail and moving its giant fins. With just two strong claws, it crawled much faster in the water pool, quickly catching up to Jesse and the others!
Seeing the monster about to catch up, Vereesa quickly pulled out three elf arrows, placed them on her bow, chanted a spell, and released the arrows with a bright Arcane light.
Jesse watched as the three Arcane lighted arrows, making a sharp noise, chased after the thrashing head of Wavethrashing, hitting it accurately three times!
All three heads were pierced by the arrows, Wavethrashing roared loudly, shook its body, hit a nearby pillar, and fell. Vereesa shouted to run, and everyone continued running without stopping, finally rushing into the narrow tunnel deep inside the cave.
Everything outside was quiet, and Jesse wasn’t sure if Wavethrashing was dead or not.
Vereesa gasped heavily, her lips turning white, the spell had clearly drained a lot of her magic.
By this point, everyone was exhausted, and they were running low on supplies like potions.
Jesse knew they wouldn’t stand a chance against the Elemental Lord in this condition.
The journey ahead requires extreme caution, we must not disturb Theradras and her terrifying attendants deep inside, including the Mountain Giant guarding the cave and the endless earth element walkers.
