Chapter 558
by post_apiChapter 558: Demonic Figurine
Searching through scrolls and books on the bookshelf with Vereesa for a while, Vyletongue was indeed interested in Eldre’Thalas’ magical defense system, and these books could be found everywhere with related keywords.
However, no other Satyr were mentioned.
At this moment, Molofeel and Saenor returned to the room with many different Demonic scrolls. Jesse could see that many of them were damaged hides and parchments, which were like fragments of enchanted items, likely some sort of letters.
These things smell really bad, worse than the smell of a Satyr. When Vereesa moved in, she wrinkled her nose and glanced over here.
But Jesse was quite used to it. He immediately came over and looked at a few pieces, thinking that reading these letters would help him understand what the Satyrs were up to.
Vereesa continued to search for clues in these books written in Elvish, while Jesse crouched down to search for clues in the letters with the succubus and imp.
On the other side of the corridor, Greed and Mosa might be searching for something suspicious or valuable in the demons’ warehouse.
Most of these letters were communications among the Satyrs, discussing the search for Highborne ruins in Desolace. It was clear that Vyletongue had sent out many Satyr seekers to look for Highborne artifacts.
The letters mentioned various Arcane artifacts, but Jesse was not interested. He didn’t have the time or manpower to search for them, considering it a waste of time.
He thought he might find some information related to the Satyrs at Dire Maul, but there was no trace at all.
It seemed that Vyletongue was considering exploring Feralas, but several attempts were unsuccessful due to the Night Elf sentries patrolling the area.
"Master!" Saenor suddenly said as he picked up a large scroll, "This is a ritual spell, a rather complex one. Could it be the purpose of those Soulstones?"
Jesse took the scroll and saw that the spell written on it was very long and difficult to understand. It was like trying to solve a complex puzzle, and he could hardly make out the words.
"Are all these…?" he asked.
"Yes, quite scary, isn’t it, master!"
With an air of pride, imp seemed to act as if he had created the spell himself.
"This is a summoning ritual that requires multiple spellcasters to perform together, master. Different casters are responsible for reciting different parts," Molofeel explained as he pointed to one section. "And this is not just any summoning spell. These sentences are used under extremely complicated circumstances to call forth specific targets."
"What kind of complicated circumstances?" Jesse inquired.
"For example, if you need to summon a demon from the depths of the Twisting Nether…" Molofeel paused, then continued, "Or if the target you wish to summon is sealed by magic, and you plan to use a summoning ritual to break the seal."
"Sealed?"
As Molofeel spoke, Jesse immediately thought of Immol’thar in Eldre’Thalas.
Immol’thar… was a void demon summoned by the Highborne nobles in Eldre’Thalas thousands of years ago.
After the explosion of the Well of Eternity ten thousand years ago, Eldre’Thalas survived but lost the magic provided by the well. They needed a new source of magic.
The elves at that time heavily relied on magic. Without a new source of magic, they would become weak, insane, and some would even die.
To sustain the city, the rulers of Eldre’Thalas summoned a powerful demon, Immol’thar, a huge void hound from the Twisting Nether. They sealed it and used its power to supply energy for the city.
After thousands of years of energy extraction, this demon had thoroughly corrupted all living beings, dead or alive, and even the city itself. Countless elves went mad and died, leading to the imminent collapse of Eldre’Thalas.
"Could it be that these Satyr want to summon Immol’thar from Eldre’Thalas to Maraudon?"
Jesse immediately dismissed this crazy idea as nonsense.
Without the massive magical seal stones built by Eldre’Thalas and a series of magic towers to bind Immol’thar’s power, wouldn’t these Satyr be foolish to summon Immol’thar with their meager strength?
So, what is this spell supposed to do?
At that moment, Greed and Mosa also carried a few boxes and a big pile of things in cloth bags and walked over.
The tall and short strong ones placed things on the ground. Tauren seemed to be a bit repelled by the evil things inside, but Greed didn’t mind and started digging in.
Inside were weapons used by demons, some strange spell materials, and a jumble of assorted items. Jesse looked at these scattered things and felt it was really hard to sum them up in just a few words.
When a dark blood-colored magic ball was pulled out, Vereesa suddenly looked over here.
Greed noticed Vereesa’s reaction and asked, "What’s wrong?"
"That magic ball," Vereesa said, "Let me see, Greed, I seem to sense something."
"Is it the resonance of magic traces?" Jesse asked.
Vereesa nodded.
Greed immediately handed the ball to the elf. Vereesa held it in her hands, and Jesse also came to have a look. It was a strange magic ball wrapped in flames, with a humanoid shadow between the flames.
It was not a shadow of a person, but the image of a blood-red demon.
A figurine to summon a specific demon.
Demonic Figurines are used to summon a specific kind of demon.
Along with the complex incantation just now, and Molofeel’s interpretation of the incantation…
"Doomguard," Jesse said. "I think this incantation is used to summon a Doomguard."
Greed asked, "Are you talking about those flying demons we killed in front of the Dark Portal?"
"Ered’ruin," Saenor said. "They are a vast race, Greed! Don’t think those vanguard troops that Burning Legion can easily sacrifice can compare with the most powerful individuals in Ered’ruin! You haven’t witnessed the power of the lords of Ered’ruin! Ha!"
Greed said, "Do you think I’m looking down on those demons? Those guys you mentioned, specifically sent by the Burning Legion to die, can handle three or four Gryphon Riders each. What do you think the most powerful demon among those you mentioned would be like?"
"The key now is, what connection does this statue, or rather the Doomguard, have with the female warlock we are looking for," Jesse said.
Everyone looked at Vereesa holding the Demonic Figurine. With a frown, Vereesa said, "I’m not sure, but this figurine seems closely connected to the magic traces on that dagger. Maybe that warlock once touched it…"
"Regardless, it’s definitely another important clue we can give to the Reliquary," Greed said. "If we bring these things back, do you think they’ll give us fifty or sixty gold coins?"
Vereesa glanced at Greed and then at Jesse, saying, "I think the connection between her and this figurine might be stronger than just physical contact. Jesse, do you think this could have been used by Dethmoora in the past? Like maybe she tried to summon an Ered’ruin demon… but failed? Or something else…"
"Let’s search some more, see if there are similar things around," Jesse pointed at the other miscellaneous items on the floor.
Greed immediately bent down to search, with Vereesa joining in. But after a while, Mosa suddenly stopped everyone in their tracks.
She looked towards the door as some sounds came from the hallway.
Jesse had heard this sound before; it was the Tree Man’s voice.
