Chapter 556
by post_apiChapter 556: Never Waste the Spoils of War
As the Satyr fell, Vereesa retreated to the nearby broken wall to catch her breath. After a while, the sound of footsteps and hooves could be heard outside, and Greed and Mosa hurried over.
As the dwarf removed the black bow from the demon, he asked, "Now that this demon is dead, is it possible that the female elf we’re looking for is also hiding here? Did you see anyone else?"
"I didn’t see anyone when I arrived," Jesse said, looking at Vereesa. Vereesa replied, "Apart from this demon leader… there was no one else."
She glanced at the succubus beside her and asked, "Did you notice anything?"
"Of course not," Molofeel replied. "If I had noticed any other enemies, I wouldn’t have kept silent from telling my master."
The ranger nodded, and Jesse looked at the imp hopping nearby, asking, "Can you sense any other spellcasters in this area?"
"Where would they be?" Saenor replied, looking around. "From the beginning… I haven’t felt any mages here, master, aside from this Quel’dorai in front of us. She’s definitely a dazzling Arcane energy ball!"
"Don’t talk nonsense," said Jesse, "No, then you are temporarily useless."
Vereesa said, "I also think so. She shouldn’t have been here in the first place. If she was really here, she wouldn’t hide inside and watch these demons being defeated by us. And if she really is here, the magic traces would be much stronger than now, Jesse."
Jesse said, "Molofeel, do you remember what those Satyrs said when we approached?"
Succubus replied, "They thought the chaos we created was caused by another Quel’doraimage."
"You can actually understand what those Satyrs were talking about." Greed widened his eyes, then realized and scratched his head, saying, "Damn, I almost forgot that this woman is a demon."
Vereesa said, "Are you saying they encountered Quel’doraimage before? How do you know they were talking about Darkeye and not the body we found in the water cave?"
"It’s hard to say for sure now," Jesse said, "Maybe if we search around this temple, we can find some clues. By the way, are you injured, Vereesa?"
"I’m fine," Vereesa asked, "What about you?"
"I’m okay," Jesse said, "It was really close just now."
Jesse looked at Molofeel and felt relieved knowing that the succubus was not hurt.
Vereesa hesitated and then said to the succubus, "You are very skilled, Sayaad, thank you for risking yourself to protect me from the Satyr guards’ sneak attacks."
Molofeel casually remarked, "Risking myself? I just followed my master’s orders to keep you alive."
Jesse stared at Molofeel and said, "Repeat after me, no need to thank me, this is what I should do – teach you a simple common language phrase, Molofeel."
Holding a Soulstone emitting a terrifying purple light, Molofeel reluctantly approached Jesse and quietly placed it inside Jesse’s robe, saying, "Alright, master, hmm, this is what I should do."
Vereesa appeared displeased as she glanced at the demon standing next to Jesse and said, "It’s my fault, why should I thank a warlock’s demon servant."
Just as Jesse was about to explain, Greed immediately stepped in and said, "Come on, Vereesa, we just defeated a demon lord hidden deep underground for who knows how many years, now is the time to be happy. Although Ms. Molofeel is a real demon, at least she’s on our side! Without her, we wouldn’t have won so easily, right?"
"I warn you, don’t trust the demon under Jesse Seso’s command just because you trust him, dwarf," Vereesa took a deep breath and continued, "Well, I’ll go back to the temple we were at earlier to look for other clues, there might be something related to our goal… Actually, I’m certain there will be, I can already feel it here."
"Just temporary trust…" the dwarf watched Vereesa walk away and sighed softly as he looked at Mosa leaving with her.
Imp stood to the side watching the people on both sides, bouncing back and forth with a suppressed smile, completely exhausted and tired after the recent battle.
"I tried my best, Jesse," Greed turned around and said, "I never dreamed that Greed Thunderfist would one day help a demon make excuses."
"It’s not strange to speak up for a Sayaad," Molofeel leaned back and said.
"You’re right, I must have been charmed, that would explain it," Greed glanced at her, then told Jesse, "From now on, I can’t look this demon in the eye."
Jesse sat beside Greed and said, "This is my fault, I never thought about this situation."
He looked at Molofeel and said, "Don’t talk to Vereesa like that anymore, Molofeel, you know what I mean, I won’t explain further, can’t you be a bit friendlier? Pretend if you have to."
Molofeel raised her eyes and said, "It seems the master really cares about the feelings of that Quel’dorai, since the master said so…"
"Just order this succubus not to talk to Vereesa, it might improve things," Greed shouted, but then he grimaced and said, "However, direct communication seems even better, if Vereesa talks to her and she remains silent, wouldn’t that be more strange? Well, I’m not sure what to do."
"Let’s do it like this," Jesse stood up and said, looking at the body of Vyletongue on the ground, "Now, help me peel off this demon’s horns and skin."
"Are you going to peel his skin?" Greed asked.
"Don’t you know demon skin is worth a lot of money?" Jesse said. "We’re here to make money, Greed, so don’t look at me like that. We can’t take back the things from the Satyrs, but we must take the tattoos from this Demon Lord."
Hearing that there’s money to be made, Greed rubbed his hands and asked, "So that’s how it is, alright, how do we do it?"
"The two of us will take off its head and bring it back to the Centaur, the rest belongs to us." Jesse looked at Molofeel and said, "Come on, Molofeel, don’t pretend to be jealous. You’re the expert at skinning. Be careful when you peel… don’t damage the tattoo."
