Chapter 554
by post_apiChapter 554: Hunting Satyrs
"Who’s yelling? What’s screaming?! Damn it all to hell!"
The dwarf shouted and leaped down the steps, splashing through the pool and sprinting towards the steps behind it. Mosa leaped down from a height and followed closely behind. The Satyrs on the higher ground were still dazed by the electric hammer strike, but the remaining inkluding the Satyr warriors near Vyletongue immediately grabbed their swords and descended the stairs to meet the dwarf’s advance.
Greed charged forward, with Mosa watching his back. A strong and muscular Satyr warrior with dark purple mane came down from above with a black blade in hand. Before reaching them, the Satyr was struck in the chest by a flying hammer from a dwarf, causing him to stumble back with dizziness, spitting out black blood. Another Satyr with a brown-yellow mane jumped directly from the wall, wielding two knives, but the dwarf blocked his attack with an axe, kicked and broke his hoof, then chopped off his head with an axe. The demon stumbled into a water pool in disarray, its headless body rolling around.
Inside the temple, chaos reigned. Vereesa and Molofeel were already crawling towards the temple, using the cover of shadows while clutching onto tree roots.
A Satyr wielding a sharp knife lunged towards Mosa, who grabbed his arms and wrestled with him. Another Satyr Killer behind her, wielding a dagger, approached, but Jesse cast a spell of Fear directly at him, catching the demon off guard. After a moment of confusion, realizing help from above, the demon tried to raise his head, but a Shadow Bolt hit his face directly, causing the Satyr to howl, clawing at his own face before falling to the ground.
Greed pushed back a Satyr in front of him, then turned around and cleaved another Satyr who was confronting Mosa at the waist, causing him to fall. Mosa glanced at Jesse as if to thank him.
However, the Shadow Bolt spell also revealed Jesse’s location. Vyletongue from above aimed his longbow at them. Jesse quickly cast a Dark Shield spell, which deflected the arrows around the Satyr leader, surrounded by a powerful shadow aura.
The demon released the arrow, which flew towards them like a shadow cutting through the air. Jesse sensed danger and tried to dodge, but it was too late. The arrow hit the Dark Shield, but the dark energy seeped through the protection, causing Jesse’s skin to itch, redden, and peel visibly.
The Shadow Protection Potion was with Vereesa, not on Jesse. He tried to endure the effects of the shadow corruption, but the power of Vyletongue’s magic arrow was frightening. The itching sensation on his skin became unbearable, even starting to penetrate into his flesh… It was so uncomfortable that he couldn’t focus on casting spells to protect Greed and Mosa, who were fighting the Satyrs.
This feeling was just like the description of the corruption spell witnessed earlier with Zardeth.
Just then, a wave of fresh air swept away the shadowy stench, relieving Jesse of the itching sensation. The areas where his skin was red and peeling now turned into a scorching pain, but this was a good change. It meant that the influence of the Shadow Power had disappeared, and Jesse had regained normal sensation.
This is clearly Mosa’s magic, and Tauren finally agreed to heal himself.
Jesse saw Tauren just cast a spell on herself, then a Satyr with a dagger charged at her from behind. Greed stepped in front of her to block the attack, smashing the Satyr’s head with a hammer. Greed then fought off two more Satyrs with his axe.
Greed has transformed into a giant stone statue, taller and stronger than Tauren. Every Satyr he hits with his hammer goes flying, unable to match his strength. Even when attacked, Greed retaliates fiercely, overpowering his enemies.
However, Jesse could feel that the Satyrs’ evil attacks were infused with shadow power, gradually corroding Greed’s stone skin.
Mosa kept chanting spells, dodging attacks from the Satyr Killer, and helping Greed alleviate the effects of the shadow corrosion, preventing him from being overwhelmed by the increasing damage.
She could be stabbed by a Satyr at any moment, but both she and Greed protected and supported each other, advancing up the stairs while dealing with seven or eight Satyrs surrounding them. Under immense pressure and tension, Jesse had to make sure Vyletongue, at a higher ground, couldn’t add more pressure on them.
"Saenor, go help them," Jesse said. "Deal with those demons for me."
"Yes, master."
Saenor obediently ran down the stairs to join Mosa, using Firebolt to blast the demons trying to attack her.
Jesse looked up and aimed at Vyletongue high up, chanting a spell to conjure a Shadow Bolt. When he cast it, the demon leader suddenly disappeared from where he was standing and reappeared on the other side. The Shadow Bolt missed, coloring the ground in shadowy darkness. Vyletongue shot a black arrow, but Jesse dodged it to the side, as he was prepared in advance, and the arrow did not pierce his dark shield.
As he looked over there again, Vyletongue had already pulled back his bow and aimed towards Jesse with a confident smirk on his face, as if he was sure he would defeat Jesse this time.
However, his expression changed as his eyes glanced to the side and almost at the same time, an arrow pierced through his cheek. He let out a low growl, swaying his body, and the arrow in his hand dropped without knowing where it went.
Just as Vyletongue looked in the direction where the arrow came from, Molofeel suddenly appeared behind him and forcefully stabbed towards his heart. But Vyletongue disappeared from where he was standing… only to reappear from a shadow about a dozen meters away!
Vereesa shot another arrow trailing Arcane energy, but Vyletongue caught it in his hand, setting his hand on fire with Arcane. However, he successfully blocked the arrow from piercing his chest!
Just as Molofeel was about to follow, a burly Satyr guard suddenly appeared beside her, clasping her neck with his arm. Molofeel tried to strike back, but the Satyr grabbed her wrist.
Jesse immediately cast a Curse of Weakness on the Satyr, making him cough and losing control of his arm. In a brief struggle, Molofeel broke free from his grip, swiftly stabbed through his heart, kicked him to the ground, and then chased after Vyletongue.
Three Satyrs emerged from the shadows to block the succubus and elf who were pursuing, but Vereesa shot and killed one with an arrow, then chopped off the other’s head with her sword. Molofeel threw her black dagger, piercing through one Satyr’s heart. The Satyr stood barely, refusing to fall, until she kicked him to the ground.
Seeing his last guard swiftly dealt with, Vyletongue felt he could not hold them off any longer, so he decisively turned and fled deeper into the temple, calling for more Satyr servants to protect him. However, most of the Satyrs below had been almost killed by Greed. At that moment, Greed and Mosa ran up the stairs to the temple’s height, where Vereesa and Molofeel had already caught up.
Vyletongue shouted for help, but no more Satyrs answered his call. His voice got softer as he disappeared into the cave. Jesse quickly jumped off the platform and followed the dwarf and Tauren.
When he got closer, he noticed that Greed was covered in wounds, and Mosa was tired and panting, showing signs of exhaustion.
The demons hiding deep in Maraudon were members of the Burning Legion, not Gnolls or cave monsters. Greed didn’t look happy, as he probably underestimated the strength of these enemies.
"Vereesa has caught up. We must hurry, Jesse," Greed said. "Who knows what’s ahead!"
Jesse nodded and ran towards the depths of the cave with Greed. She noticed that Mosa was struggling to keep up with heavy steps instead of transforming into a faster and more agile cat form, indicating she might not have enough energy to shapeshift.
It seemed that whether they could catch up to Vyletongue would depend on the two female assassins.
