Chapter 536
by post_apiChapter 536: Dangerous Thoughts
Vereesa said, "I wonder if it’s possible to create a portal that we can use but demons cannot, to connect Azeroth and Draenor."
"I can’t say for sure that it’s impossible," Jesse replied, "But demons can travel through any opening between dimensions. I believe there are portals that only demons can use, not mortals."
Vereesa frowned and continued, "What if we create a small portal that only a few people can pass through… a tiny gateway that even powerful demons or their armies cannot. At least it would allow us to see what’s happening on the other side."
"You should consult the masters at Kirin Tor about this, Vereesa," Jesse said, "You know my skills in arcane magic."
Vereesa added, "You may not be as skilled in using Arcane as them, but you understand demons, especially with the genuine demons you have here willing to help you. Kirin Tor is wary of another Dark Portal incident, so they avoid matters concerning Lothar’s son."
"The real demons are here, so a small portal should work!" Saenor suddenly popped out from the Warlock Pack, "Mrs. Vereesa Windrunner, it’s possible to create small channels to cross dimensions. Otherwise, how do demons respond to summoning rituals? The Burning Legion must have secretly transported countless demons to Azeroth this way, and you didn’t even know!"
"I certainly know," Vereesa looked at the demon and said, "That’s why elves and humans formed the Council of Tirisfal, right?"
The imp continued, "Whether you know it or not, the problem is that crossing the dark void portal requires a mage who understands the void to maintain it. But we don’t have a mage of that level here! I’m worried that even in the revered Kirin Tor, there’s no member like that… After all, communicating with Arcane and controlling void energies are completely different things."
"You’re right," Vereesa said. "A Magus I know also mentioned something similar. He said that unless Medivh comes back to life, there’s no mage in the Alliance who can do this."
"I’m sorry, I can’t help you," Jesse said.
"No one can help with this kind of task," Vereesa whispered. "I’m just talking nonsense. I’m already happy that someone is listening to my ramblings."
The imp climbed onto Jesse’s shoulder and said, "Molofeel has encountered countless demons! Those within the Burning Legion… those who have betrayed the Burning Legion, and those who haven’t joined yet! The master can call her over and let Mrs. Vereesa Windrunner ask for her opinion, she knows a lot!"
"No," Vereesa almost immediately said, glancing at Jesse, then awkwardly explained, "I’m not quite ready to communicate with that Sayaad, let’s leave it at that."
Now tying up her hair, she said, "There are many menacing blue Raptors in this oasis, different from the ones in Stranglethorn. These Raptors here have sharp fangs and claws, and they don’t obey me much. Whether it’s due to some unknown force invading, the animals here are much more aggressive than those outside. I don’t want to stay here overnight. Let’s pack up and leave when they come back."
Not only Vereesa felt this way, after Mosa and Greed circled outside, they also realized the aggressiveness of the animals in the oasis, so everyone hurriedly hit the road at dusk, leaving the oasis.
There is a small village of Centaurs on a hillside not far from the oasis. One Centaur saw a group approaching from a distance, but just stood there watching without giving a warning or informing others right away.
Mosa said that the Centaur is not a resident of this village, as his markings are different. He might be from another tribe exploring this area.
It’s not surprising that there are disputes and conflicts within the Centaur community.
In the game, "Crossroads" is to the north of Lushwater Oasis.
The Crossroads is not just a literal crossroads, but also the name of the largest village and settlement in The Barrens. Heading north from here leads to the ancient Ashenvale forest where the Night Elves live. Going east reaches the coast at Ratchet near the Barrens, south is the direction Jesse and the others came from, where the Quilboar live in Agama’gor, and heading west is the direction of Jesse’s journey to Stonetalon.
However, at this moment, the Crossroads is just a junction. Jesse saw several large totem poles that had been chopped down, so decayed that the patterns on them were barely visible.
Without Mosa saying anything, Jesse knew that the Tauren may have once lived here, but due to the expansion of the Centaur’s influence, they were gradually forced out.
Perhaps there was once a larger town here than the game’s Crossroads. After all, giant totem poles like these would not be put up for no reason.
The Tauren’s homes may have been destroyed by the Centaur to build their own village.
The group continued west from the crossroads, following Mosa through a hilly area instead of taking the main road.
She said that the main roads here are full of Centaur.
After walking for four days, one morning they crossed over a hill. In the early sunlight, Jesse finally saw the landscape beyond the hills, wastelands, and grasslands.
They saw a red mountain range, darker and browner than Redridge. Mosa said in the common language, "There are Tauren houses here."
"Tauren houses? Where?" Greed looked around.
Mosa had been learning the common language with Greed and Vereesa, although she didn’t know much, she was still very enthusiastic. Seeing Greed confused, she realized she couldn’t express herself clearly in the common language, so she explained in Elvish with Vereesa.
Vereesa said, "She means there’s a Tauren village ahead."
"Really?" Jesse asked, "Not like the ruins we saw earlier, right?"
"On the mountains." Mosa said, "Safe."
"I understand," Jesse said. "Building their home on the mountain, Centaurs can’t easily attack, so it can be preserved."
Wait, the Tauren village on Stonetalon.
Could it be Sun Rock Retreat? Was Sun Rock Retreat originally a Tauren stronghold existing before the Horde was established?
Mosa turned to Jesse and said something in Elvish. Vereesa said, "Mosa reminds you to hide your demon, other Taurens won’t forgive having a demon near the village."
Jesse nodded immediately, it seemed that after two weeks of travel, she was starting to trust these two demons a bit.
