Chapter 535
by post_apiChapter 535: Rain on the Plains
By noon, the elf and Tauren were in the pool, while Jesse and Greed sat on a nearby slope, keeping an eye on the distant forests and hills, alert for any potential dangers. Suddenly, thunder boomed in the sky, making Greed jump, "Scared me! I thought we summoned a Thunder Lizard again."
"Looks like it’s going to rain," Jesse remarked, "Should we make a shelter?"
"You’re right," Greed nodded.
They decided to do it and immediately got up to pick up leaves in the forest.
Many trees in the oasis had very large leaves, like palm tree leaves. It was easy to collect them. Jesse asked succubus to stand guard high up, while working together with Greed. Both of them were experienced, and in no time, they set up a nearly complete tent.
Before they could fully put their luggage and food under the tent, it suddenly started to rain.
The sudden heavy rain was like a collapsing waterfall that engulfed the entire oasis in an instant. The two of them rushed to pack up their things, made sure nothing was getting wet. Greed stuck his head out of the tent and said, "Thank goodness we quickly set up this tent as you suggested. Otherwise, our clothes that we had just dried would have been soaked again. The weather here is indeed unpredictable."
"After all, this place is completely different from the mainland," Jesse said. "Although the conditions here are tough, I have to admit, I haven’t had this much fun in a long time."
Greed replied, "Of course, Jesse. I know we have a mission, and I do remember, but even if we can’t find any clues or earn a few gold coins as a reward, just playing around like this and going back, I think it’s worth it."
"You aren’t bothered about that Tauren anymore?" Jesse teased.
"I never disliked him from the beginning," Greed said. "Do you think I would generalize my foolish impression of the Tauren from Gadgetzan to all Taurens? Impossible!"
"I think that Tauren is starting to like you more," Jesse said.
"That’s normal," Greed patted his chest and said, "I am just so attractive…"
At that moment, Vereesa and Mosa ran back with their cloaks held up, their elven hair still down, Jesse watched as Vereesa took off her hood and sat down beside him, stealing a few glances at her.
Then, Tauren squatted down, squeezing Jesse and Greed to the edge. Greed almost got pushed into the rain, muttering quietly, "Darn, we made this shelter a bit too small."
"Where is that demon?" Vereesa asked.
"She’s outside keeping watch for us," Jesse said.
Vereesa nodded and said, "I talked to Mosa earlier, she’s willing to help us find Dethmoora Darkeye."
"Really?" Jesse said. "I didn’t think she would lead us all the way to Desolace."
Vereesa explained, "She used to roam this continent dealing with threats to the Tauren tribe. If there’s an opportunity to seek out something more sinister, she’s willing to join us. She also shared crucial information, at least in my opinion."
"What?"
"She said that there are traces of demons appearing in the Centaur graveyard in Desolace, which is Maraudon. She heard rumors from the Centaur that even the monsters’ tribe is fearing and worrying about demons appearing. They think those demons are trying to desecrate their sacred land."
"Maybe that warlock is causing trouble in secret," Greed said.
"This means that goblin didn’t lie to us," Jesse said, holding the package containing the mysterious dagger. "We will know the specifics once we get there."
While they were chatting, the rain had stopped at some point without any signs of easing up, it just came and went suddenly.
The rainwater still dripped from the leaves around them, as if it were still raining, but even the sunlight was shining through at that moment.
Mosa stood up, said a few words to Vereesa, then turned and walked towards the depths of the oasis. Greed asked, "Where is she going?"
"She is going to find some fruit to eat," Vereesa said. "Probably tired of Thunder Lizard meat."
"I think so too, I’m going too!" Greed stood up, brushed the mud off his backside, and hurried over.
Vereesa watched the dwarf walk away, wanting to say something but stopping herself. She then turned to look at Jesse and after a moment, said, "These two don’t understand each other, what should we do?"
Jesse took a bite of the burnt Thunder Lizard meat and said, "Maybe by the time they come back, the Tauren will have learned Dwarven language."
"That would be better. The conversation between those two is getting more and more awkward, I don’t want to translate anymore," Vereesa sighed.
"Does Greed like Mosa?" she suddenly asked.
"I don’t know," Jesse replied. Greed usually likes tough women who can fight, like strong female warriors. We met a female mercenary on the ship when we went to Lordaeron before, and he seemed interested in her. Oh, he used to like your sister too…"
Jesse almost blurted out the rest, but then realized it wasn’t appropriate to bring that up now.
"You mean Alleria?" Vereesa said calmly. "Back then when you and Greed were in Stormwind, you must have seen Alleria and her troops."
"Yes, we saw her leave Stormwind back then."
Jesse regretted speaking too fast, the journey through Kalimdor made him feel like he was forgetting what happened on the other continent.
"Sylvanas heard many news," Vereesa continued, "Some said Draenor is destroyed, the expedition army all died on the other side of the Dark Portal, even the Magi said so. That’s why Stormwind plans to build a ‘Valley of Heroes’, to set up their statues, to remember Lothar’s son’s sacrifice. But Sylvanas never believed they all died."
"What about you?" Jesse asked.
"I don’t believe it either." The elf turned to Jesse and said, "Do you forget, there is also a statue of you in Nethergarde, Jesse, although I think it does not compare to when you bravely faced that demon by yourself… I don’t know how to describe it, maybe say, courage."
She chuckled and continued, "But you’re still here, even though everyone says you’re dead. Maybe in another world, at this moment, someone is telling my sister the same thing, everyone thinks she’s dead, but she’s still out there, trying everything to come back to Azeroth, back to us."
Jesse nodded.
"I don’t know why, but I feel like you also believe that Lothar’s sons are still alive," Vereesa said.
"Of course, I believe," Jesse said.
He of course believed, or rather, he knew.
Draenor was of course not completely destroyed, and the members of Lothar’s sons… including everyone in front of the Stormwind statues did not die because of this disaster.
"Well, I believe you’re not just trying to make me feel better, Jesse," Vereesa chuckled, "But since you share a similar view with me and Sylvanas, there’s something I want to discuss with you. I haven’t told anyone else about it."
"What?" Jesse asked.
