Chapter 534
by post_apiChapter 534: Lushwater Oasis
The vast Barrens were much larger than Jesse expected.
After walking with Mosa on the grassland for over a week, everything they saw was still barren.
Except for an almost invisible dirt road covered with weeds appearing and disappearing from time to time, there was no sign of any civilization.
Mosa claimed that there were many Centaurs living in The Barrens. However, after nearly two weeks, they hadn’t seen any Centaurs, but they had seen many zebras.
After walking for who knows how long, Jesse was feeling numb. When he looked up, he suddenly saw a deep green area at the end of the vast barren land.
An oasis? Was it the oasis in The Barrens? Or was it just a mirage?
The unbearable thirst, upon seeing those green plants, almost became unbearable to the point of being life-threatening for Jesse. He touched the water bag he hadn’t opened for a long time, but then put it back down.
After all, they had reached the oasis.
As they ventured deeper into The Barrens, despite Jesse having artifacts like the Living Ice Crystals for replenishing his water supply, his water-making efficiency was decreasing.
After all, even if you use magic, it’s actually summoning water elements to gather in front of you and form a stream. But in the vast area of The Barrens, there aren’t many water elements, so the efficiency of water creation spells becomes very low.
This isn’t Steamwheedle Port; even though it’s a desert, it’s still close to the sea.
So over these few days, Jesse found it increasingly difficult to provide water for these people, and everyone had to try to save water as much as possible.
Therefore, when they saw the shadow of an oasis in the distance, everyone was quite excited.
However, even Jesse knew what an oasis on these barren lands meant.
It’s likely that in the surrounding areas, the most competitive beasts or other forces like Centaurs gather here to enjoy the water and other food resources.
Even in the game, most of The Barrens’ Centaur Tribe also gathers around the oasis.
So Mosa looked at the oasis vigilantly, stopped behind a sturdy tree to stare at it for a long time, made sure there were no enemies, and then led everyone closer to the oasis.
While walking, she told Vereesa something. Vereesa, after listening, spoke to the two people behind her, saying, "Long ago, most of this place was as lush as these oases. Then the Burning Legion invaded here, and a Demigod named Logosh fought a fierce battle with the demon army here, destroying everything. For the next ten thousand years, the ecosystem here never recovered to its original state. The Tauren see these oases as a sign of Logosh’s return to this land, representing The Barrens coming back to life again."
"This is Lushwater Oasis, one of the largest oases in this barren land. We can rest here for a while and then head west."
"Are there Centaurs here?" Jesse asked. "You can ask her."
Vereesa repeated Jesse’s question to Mosa and after getting an answer, explained to Jesse, "Centaurs used to camp here before, but recently they have left. Mosa mentioned that to the west of the forest, you can still see some abandoned Centaur tents."
Jesse could probably guess why the Centaurs didn’t want to camp here.
The reason why Lushwater Oasis is the largest oasis in all of The Barrens is because underground, there is a massive underground water cave hiding countless mysterious and terrifying creatures.
Later, a Night Elf tried sending a Druid named Naralax into the cave to investigate. The Druid and his companions attempted to heal the scars at the bottom of the oasis, turning it into a clean water source to restore greenery to The Barrens. However, the Druid was quickly dragged into the depths of nightmare by the dark forces hidden in the cave, until adventurers and mercenaries, also known as players, rescued him.
The Centaurs may have sensed that the cave was unusual and staying here for a long time was not a good choice, so they quickly abandoned the oasis after discovering it.
"I can feel dark things here," Jesse told Vereesa. "Tell Mosa that we shouldn’t stay here for too long."
Vereesa nodded, said something to Mosa, who then looked at Jesse and asked in a common language, "Are you too?"
"What?" Jesse didn’t quite understand what she meant. Was she trying to say that she was also something dark and mysterious?
Mosa had only learned a few words in the common language these days, and it was still difficult for her to express complete thoughts. She had to explain to Vereesa again, who told Jesse, "She means she can sense the evil underneath this oasis just like you. It’s obvious that the Tauren legends do not accurately describe the reasons for the prosperity of this oasis."
Jesse nodded.
Tauren Druids were probably almost extinct. There were probably very few half-hearted Druids like Mosa who could control Natural Magic and sense the natural forces. Without the help of the Night Elves, they would of course find it difficult to detect the darkness hidden beneath these plants.
But at least on the surface, there seemed to be nothing here. Mosa led a few people into it, and even when they approached the pool that Jesse was familiar with in the game, they didn’t notice any obvious shadows.
After all, even if the Night Elf Druids were to come here for investigation later, they would only feel the evil after going deep into the caves. Having some water and resting here shouldn’t be a problem.
"What do you think, Saenor?" Jesse asked.
"I think this place is perfect for the owner. I don’t like it anyway," whispered imp.
"If you don’t like it, then it must be safe here," Jesse said. "After all, the places you like are probably ghostly places where no one can live."
Seeing the pool, Greed couldn’t resist taking off his coat and jumping in with a big splash, like throwing a dark brown stone into the water.
Since arriving in Kalimdor about a month ago, along with the previous sea voyage, Jesse couldn’t remember how long it had been since they had a proper bath.
Of course, everyone smelled bad after living together for so long, but no one minded, especially when a Tauren joined and helped mask the smell. Finally finding a bathing spot, they couldn’t resist any longer.
Jesse glanced at the elf beside him, Vereesa, and she gestured towards the pool ahead, asking, "Aren’t you going in? Mosa and I will watch from outside, we’ll join after you’re done."
"Well, then I won’t hold back." Jesse chuckled, eagerly taking off his cloak and robes to join Greed in the water.
The last time he had a bath like this was back in Stormwind, and the water here was much cleaner than the canals in Stormwind.
