    Chapter 523: The Shimmering Flats

Considering that they might not encounter many people or settlements for proper communication once they leave Gadgetzan and head north, the three of them packed some long-lasting food like dried fruits, meat jerky, along with plenty of salt and spices to rely on for survival.

One evening, Jesse and Greed went to Malin Noggenfogger’s Alchemy Room and bought some natural resistance potions, antidotes, and bandages for healing with a gold coin.

Greed always carried many Healing Potions, so they were well-prepared for any life-threatening situations.

The next morning, they left Gadgetzan and headed north with the Gadgetzan patrol towards The Shimmering Flats. They crossed a pass and saw a vast salt flat to the north.

The Shimmering Flats lived up to its name. After exiting the canyon, they were greeted by a dazzling white flat land that seemed endless, like an uncomfortable mirror reflecting light.

The view here was terrifyingly open because there was nothing on the salt flat – no plants, animals, or any other features like rocks.

It was just flat white as far as the eye could see. In the distance, they could see a group of figures, possibly goblins or other races, slowly moving forward. Even though they were advancing, from such a distance, it seemed like they were standing still.

The Gadgetzan rocket racetrack was located on The Shimmering Flats. The patrol then headed towards the racetrack in the east.

Since there were likely no races happening at that moment, and Jesse’s group had no interest in competing with dangerous machines for speed, they bid farewell to the patrol and continued westward.

Looking west, they could see faint shadows of mountains shrouded in clouds or mist in the farthest reaches of their vision, giving a bit of hope to those advancing in this land of deathly white.

Jesse listened to the crunching sound of salt crystals under his feet, gazing into the distance. He even felt like he could see some curves on the surface of the salt flat, wondering if it was an illusion or if he truly sensed the curvature of Azeroth.

After walking for an unknown amount of time, Jesse saw a small sign standing in the distance.

After walking for a long time, he finally reached the sign. It read, "You are about to leave the jurisdiction of Gadgetzan, good luck to you."

Jesse glanced at Greed beside him. Greed just flicked the sign with his hand and said, "Finally, no more dealing with those green-skinned dwarves."

"I wonder how much longer it will take to leave this ghostly place," Vereesa wiped her sweat and looked at Molofeel beside Jesse, who looked calm. She said, "I’m starting to envy those demons."

"Compared to the places I’ve been before, this place is quite pleasant in terms of climate, elf," Molofeel chuckled.

Hearing this, Vereesa’s face darkened. She took a deep breath and said, "I’ve been to Burning Steppes too, and compared to there… it’s definitely far worse here, right, Jesse?"

"Of course, the lava in Burning Steppes flows out," Jesse replied.

Although Jesse agreed with his words, he knew very well that the demons dwelling in the Twisting Nether were much more absurd than those in Burning Steppes.

At this moment, he thought Saenor would start talking nonsense again, but imp just hugged Molofeel’s neck, looking at the elf and succubus with a smirk on his face, surprisingly staying quiet.

It seemed that this guy knew who to mess with and who not to mess with. Even though Molofeel threatened it every day, it dared not cause trouble with the demon around.

However, this elf was really unpredictable.

With this strange terrain, estimating distances often went wrong. Jesse initially thought they could reach the entrance to Thousand Needles before nightfall, but by midnight, they still seemed far away.

At this moment, the dwarf and elf didn’t complain about the scorching sun, as it was still winter and freezing at night.

After walking for a while, the three of them found a ravine to hide in, huddling together to keep warm.

"I’m tired of walking, my friends," Greed laid his cloak on the ground, closed his eyes, and said, "I need to rest first, you guys can stay up and decide who will keep watch…"

"Then it’ll have to be me," Vereesa replied.

"No need," Jesse pointed to the succubus lying beside them and said, "With her around, let her keep watch."

"I am willing to help you all." Molofeel smiled and looked at the elf. The elf glanced at her and said, "No, I can’t trust a demon guardian, this is just…"

"Don’t resist, my Elven Wisp." Greed muttered with his eyes closed, "You’re already exhausted from talking, just have a good sleep and enjoy the benefits of traveling with an evil warlock, demons don’t need to sleep for tens of thousands of years anyway."

    "No…" Vereesa whispered.

"Why don’t you two work together?" Jesse said to Molofeel, "Stop arguing."

Molofeel rested her hand on Jesse’s shoulder and said to the elf, "Then let’s cooperate happily, esteemed Miss Windrunner."

    "There’s nothing esteemed about it."

Vereesa stood up quietly, wrapped herself in a cloak, and walked outside the trench.

"Why are you talking so much?" Jesse said helplessly.

"Is the master annoyed by my talking again? Isn’t it a friendly gesture as per the master’s orders?" Molofeel blinked and said, "I think I’m being very precise in my expression."

"You be quiet a bit," Jesse threw his cape, laid back, and fell asleep heavily.

Late at night, Jesse felt like he had not closed his eyes for a while, suddenly dreaming of something deep inside calling out to him… It was Saenor’s voice.

    "Jesse Seso!"

Jesse opened his eyes and looked around, Molofeel was squatting not far away looking back at him. He was about to speak, but imp immediately made a gesture to be quiet.

After his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he noticed that there were several black shadows above the ravine. Those monsters were peering down at the two people lying below.

Jesse shook Greed next to him, who immediately sat up with a start. All those black shadows simultaneously focused on this dwarf.

Seeing themselves surrounded by strange things, Greed leaned over to Jesse and asked, "What are these things?"

"Basilisks," Molofeel said, "There are a lot of them, master. What do you plan to do?"

    "Where’s Vereesa?" Jesse asked.

"The elves have gone out to find food!" Saenor said.

"So she’s still feeling at ease with you two demons…" Greed said.

"You better focus on the current issue." Jesse held the sword handle beside him and said, "These Basilisks can really turn people into stone!"

"Of course I know!" Greed shouted, lifting a hammer. Suddenly, a whistle came from outside the ravine, causing all the Basilisks above to bristle their stone-like scales and look in that direction together.

The whistle turned a few corners, playing a simple melody, and many Basilisks immediately turned and left, as if following orders to retreat.

"What’s happening to them?" Greed asked. "Who’s blowing the whistle?"

Jesse had already recognized who it was, after all, he was very familiar with the sound of the whistle.

Vereesa popped her head out from outside and asked, "Are you guys okay?"

"You’re quite talented, Elven Wisp," Greed chuckled twice.

Jesse asked curiously, "Can beasts in Kalimdor also understand the signals from another continent?"

Vereesa slipped into the pit, got up, dusted herself off, and said, "Now I understand what they’re saying."

Speaking, the dwarf noticed a lingering shadow up high and asked, "Um, why isn’t that one running away?"

"I’m letting it stay for a while," Vereesa said, "to serve as our breakfast."

"Such wicked Quel’dorai," the dwarf muttered quietly.

"Then don’t eat it!" Vereesa said with displeasure.

"I will!" Greed chuckled nervously and said, "How can I refuse this!"
