Chapter 450 The Desiccated Corpses
by SurroundedbyBooks“Heavenly Dragon Descends! Subjugate the Demon!”
Mingyuan raised his palm and lightly pushed forward.
The golden dragon reappeared, roaring into the air before transforming into a massive Demon-Subjugating Pestle, which then slammed down fiercely upon Foxmei!
Her body instantly shattered, cracks spreading like spiderwebs.
Chen Fei twitched the corner of his mouth.
“What a waste… such a loss of money again!”
But Mingyuan paid no mind, his face even lit with joy as he turned toward the Immovable King statue behind him.
“So that’s how it is! Haha! Brother Chen, this place truly is my fated opportunity!” he laughed heartily, clearly elated, and turned to Chen Fei.
Chen Fei, having already put Foxmei’s ruined corpse out of mind, looked back at Mingyuan.
“Congratulations, Senior Brother.”
He then turned toward the statue. Ever since the pestle descended, the once divine aura of the Immovable King had faded. Even the red glow that shrouded the dilapidated temple had vanished—obviously absorbed and comprehended by Mingyuan.
The golden light surrounding Mingyuan slowly withdrew, and he walked up to Chen Fei.
“Junior Brother, it seems these demons are trying to seal off the temples. Since that’s the case, why not seize the fortunes here before they do?”
Chen Fei was slightly surprised by his reasoning.
“And what of the so-called Demon God?”
“If it could be sealed, it’s nothing to be feared.” Mingyuan smirked confidently.
Chen Fei understood that Mingyuan must have a hidden ace—possibly even bringing him here to collect his corpse if needed. Yet, he had no idea what exactly Mingyuan was relying on—enough that even the sealed Demon God didn’t faze him.
Still curious, Chen Fei didn’t press the issue.
“Let’s go.” Mingyuan looked off toward another patch of red glow, and the two continued forward.
Elsewhere, Rindong, still some distance from his objective, suddenly froze mid-step.
“Foxmei… is dead?”
Although he didn’t particularly like her, the fact that she had died so abruptly shocked him and shook his composure.
He raised his head, his expression turning solemn.
The temple before him, though ruined, was shrouded in dense red light—and more importantly, black figures had silently appeared before him.
These figures were twisted and grotesque, like mummified corpses, sending a chill down the spine.
But Rindong showed no fear. With a stomp forward, he pushed both palms out—sending a blast of frost surging toward the corpses.
The dry corpses, which stood as still as statues, were instantly coated in ice.
Rindong narrowed his eyes. Seeing no movement, he let out a sigh of relief.
“Hmph. Scaring myself.”
The burly tiger demon patted his chest and continued toward the temple.
But the moment he moved, a crackling sound echoed.
The frozen corpses suddenly sprang to life, crimson eyes flaring open!
The ice covering them splintered as they emitted a bone-chilling roar—freezing Rindong momentarily in place.
Fortunately, his tiger’s might surged, and after shaking off the pressure, his eyes turned golden and he let out a thunderous roar in return.
A cold wind howled around him, instantly freezing several corpses again.
Without giving them a chance to react, Rindong’s massive claws smashed into their skulls, sending rotten heads exploding with a foul stench.
Realizing the eerie nature of the place, Rindong didn’t dare hold back. He quickly assumed his true form—a gigantic tiger—and began tearing through the corpses with overwhelming strength.
Within moments, the standing corpses had been reduced to broken remains.
Rindong sneered.
“Tricks and illusions.”
He instinctively lifted a paw and licked it—then froze.
That claw had just smashed those putrid corpses. And now that he thought about it—they were probably highly toxic.
“Pleh!” He spat, then checked his paw.
His once snowy-white claw had turned an inky black—and he had just licked it.
His face twisted in horror. Fortunately, he had antidote pills, which he gulped down immediately. Still, his mood soured further—not toward the corpses, but toward himself.
His anger exploded, and he let out a furious roar that echoed far and wide.
But he didn’t notice—his roar had drawn more and more corpses toward him from the shadows.
Meanwhile, Chen Fei and Mingyuan also encountered these dry corpses—but chose not to engage them directly, avoiding unnecessary noise.
“Be cautious, Junior Brother,” Mingyuan warned.
“These corpses may seem lifeless, but there’s hidden energy within them.”
The fog thickened in the air as the corpses appeared, and Chen Fei could sense it even more clearly.
For him, the richer the fog, the more spiritual energy he could absorb—especially since the Heaven Silkworm Gu within him was becoming increasingly voracious.
But aside from the energy, Chen Fei noticed something else.
“Senior Brother… these corpses are absorbing the fog.” He pointed at a nearby one.
Mingyuan frowned and looked toward the temple.
“Perhaps the seal is weakening, allowing this to happen.”
Chen Fei nodded. That was likely. Otherwise, the sudden surge of corpses made no sense.
“Even so,” he added, “don’t you think there’s something odd here?” He turned to a particular corpse on the left.
Mingyuan looked but didn’t notice anything.
“What do you mean?”
Chen Fei gestured toward the waist of the corpse, where a black ornament hung—hard to spot unless you were looking closely.
Taking a deep breath, Chen Fei said:
“These corpses… were human. But according to the Northern Garrison Army, this place belongs to the demon race. So why are there human cultivators here?”
Mingyuan’s expression turned serious as he stepped closer, ignoring the corpse’s stench.
After examining one, he immediately rushed to another nearby corpse, inspecting it as well.
Afterward, his face turned pale, his eyes dazed, and he muttered:
“This… this is wrong…”
Chen Fei immediately asked:
“What did you find?”
Mingyuan’s eyes were wide as he responded:
“Their identities… they were Wilderness Seekers!”
To prove it, he pointed at the chest of a corpse. Although it had blackened with decay, a barely visible emblem could be seen there.
It was the insignia of one of the three major powers of North Garrison City—Mo Wentang!
