Chapter 342 A Deliberate Flaw
by SurroundedbyBooksAt this point, Chen Fei could only smile bitterly.
He had originally planned to use the chaos to escape and relay the critical information outside—but in a twist of fate, he now found himself working for the enemy, helping the demonic sects break a restriction formation.
Wait a minute…
Chen Fei discreetly observed his surroundings.
It was clear now—there were multiple groups of Myriad Realm cultivators just like him, assigned to assist with the unsealing process.
Nangong Ye alone was supervising three separate sites.
Such a vast number of Myriad Realm experts was terrifying, and yet Heavenly Apex Holy Land didn’t seem to have any clue.
What made these demonic sects truly fearsome, aside from their cruel methods, was their ability to mass-produce cultivators.
With enough fresh blood, they could forcibly raise large numbers of people to Myriad Realm level.
Of course, these rushed breakthroughs came at a cost:
Weak foundations.
No further progress possible.
And due to the blood refinement process, their temperaments became unstable and their Qi constantly leaked, making them hard to control.
“They need this many people just to break the seal… What if something goes wrong?”
Chen Fei immediately recalled the earlier cold surge that had disrupted the ritual.
That event had proved one thing: the formation could be sabotaged—and if it was, the consequences would be devastating to the enemy.
Of course, those consequences might include Chen Fei getting torn to shreds by bloodthirsty demonic cultivators.
Just as he was contemplating how to exploit this, another wave of spiritual energy rippled from one of the restriction pillars to his left.
“Damn it! Get back!”
Nangong Ye shouted, his expression dark.
But he was a second too late.
A blast of icy-blue Qi erupted from the pillar, instantly freezing several demonic cultivators into statues.
Crack! Their bodies shattered to pieces.
Nangong Ye moved in a flash, placing a hand against the restriction column to stabilize it. His face was grim.
“Peak Human Dao Realm!”
Chen Fei immediately gauged Nangong Ye’s strength.
Unlike the unstable blood-refined cultists, his Qi was thick and refined—a true powerhouse.
Under his efforts, the surge of cold quickly subsided and the formation restabilized.
“Continue channeling your demonic Qi!”
he barked coldly.
The frozen demonic cultivators were still alive—fortunately, they were at Myriad Realm level.
With a flick of his finger, Nangong Ye released a gentle pulse of Qi, unfreezing them.
“Thank you, Lord Nangong!”
they said gratefully, still shaken.
He snorted but restrained his anger. These were forcibly promoted Myriad Realm cultivators, and their clumsy control of Qi was making the situation worse.
Yelling wouldn’t fix anything.
He tossed them some pills.
“Take these. Get back in position and stabilize the formation.”
Then he turned toward the central node, prepared to intercept further cold surges.
“Senior Brother Nangong, how is your side holding up?”
a familiar voice called.
Chen Fei instinctively shifted, peeking through a gap between the formations.
Peach Blossom Immortal had arrived, her expression solemn.
Nangong Ye visibly relaxed upon seeing her.
“So it’s Junior Sister Peach Blossom!”
They exchanged greetings.
Nangong Ye gestured at the unstable seal with a grim face.
“These Myriad Realm helpers are all rushed breakthroughs. They keep messing up!”
“Same everywhere,”
she sighed.
“Luckily, the inner core is progressing smoothly. Once the outer pillars are disabled, it won’t take long to break the seal.”
“Good,”
Nangong Ye nodded, then sneered:
“I wonder what the situation is like outside. With the Matriarch Sect causing chaos, I doubt the Heavenly Apex fools suspect anything.”
“The Matriarch Sect has almost wiped out the Dark Sect remnants,”
Peach Blossom said,
“but we’ve hit a small snag.”
“Snag?”
Nangong Ye glanced at her.
“Remember the person I told you about?”
“Chen Fei?”
Nangong Ye narrowed his eyes. His posture stiffened; clear hostility leaked from his tone.
Chen Fei, watching from behind the pillar, wasn’t concerned.
He was well-hidden, blending in among the cultists, and the seal’s structure obscured his face.
If anything, this was a golden opportunity to eavesdrop.
“According to my sources,”
Peach Blossom explained,
“Chen Fei was involved in the Dark Sect’s operation. He even captured the Matriarch Sect’s Holy Maiden, Lady A-Yue, and disappeared. The Matriarch Sect’s Grand Elder activated the Blood Underworld Formation to trap him underground—he may be hiding somewhere in this cave.”
Nangong Ye sneered.
“Knew those Matriarch dogs couldn’t be trusted. What do you plan to do?”
“I’ve already stationed hidden guards at all known cave exits. If he tries to escape, they’ll sound the alarm immediately.”
Chen Fei let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Thankfully, he hadn’t made a break for it earlier—he would’ve been caught.
Now he could sit safely inside enemy lines, listening to their entire strategy.
“Don’t worry, Junior Sister. If he dares show his face, I’ll help you get your revenge!”
Nangong Ye said proudly.
Chen Fei rolled his eyes.
“Help her get revenge? Please…”
But Peach Blossom’s next words made Chen Fei tense up.
“Senior Brother, don’t be careless. Chen Fei has some method to perfectly imitate demonic cultivation techniques. He can slip into our ranks undetected. Be wary of unfamiliar faces!”
Nangong Ye nodded seriously.
“Even though our troops are from different sects, I know the ones under my command.”
He didn’t think much of the rushed Myriad Realm recruits—but that didn’t stop him from showing off in front of Peach Blossom.
She, knowing his temperament, only reminded him again:
“Be careful. I’ll go check on the other locations.”
Before leaving, she looked around one last time.
“If Chen Fei gets the chance to sabotage the pillars, our entire operation could collapse. Don’t drop your guard.”
Nangong Ye smiled.
“Naturally. Don’t tell me you doubt your Senior Brother?”
“Of course not,”
Peach Blossom replied, giving him a graceful bow before turning away.
Chen Fei watched her silhouette disappear into the distance, but there was a flicker of doubt in his eyes.
“They say your enemy knows you best… It’s true. Peach Blossom Immortal has probably already guessed I’ve infiltrated the cult.”
But then—why had she just reminded everyone of the importance of the sealing pillars?
Was it a warning?
A trap?
Or… a subtle hint?
Was she setting a trap to catch him—or quietly helping him from the shadows?
That… was the real question.
