Chapter 193: Gone Mad
by SurroundedbyBooksWang Fang stood humbly behind the Blood Sect Patriarch, not daring to resist the intense blood energy surging from the elder’s body.
“Hmm! Not bad! I didn’t expect the Blood Cloud Sect to still produce a disciple like you. If I manage to escape this time, I’ll be sure to reward you generously!” The Blood Sect Patriarch’s tone sounded friendly, but a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
Wang Fang lowered his head even further. “I dare not hope for more. Rescuing the Patriarch is my duty!”
The Patriarch narrowed his eyes and then grinned. “Good! Very good! There’s no rush to leave just yet. The people from the Skyheaven Sanctuary may be hateful, but they’re not easy to deal with. Still, they probably don’t know I’ve been secretly building up my strength.”
“Once I absorb these Origin Realm beasts, I’ll recover to the Mystic Realm. Taking you out of here then will be effortless!” he said with confidence. Despite dragging chains on his scapula, his movements were swift and agile. In a few blinks, he had reached the outer edge of the Crimson Zone.
“This place has quite a few treasures. Consider this your opportunity. Stay close to me!” the Patriarch said, leaping forward again.
Wang Fang, of course, didn’t dare disobey and silently followed. But the blood-colored bead in his chest subtly trembled as he trailed behind the Patriarch.
Meanwhile, Chen Fei stood at the mouth of the volcano ravine, his expression odd.
“What’s going on? The aura inside the Immortal Music Secret Realm feels different than before…” he muttered, furrowing his brows in thought.
Dong Feng glanced outward and also sensed something was off.
A heavy scent of blood hung in the air.
“Ah!”
A scream echoed in the distance. The two exchanged a look and immediately rushed toward the sound.
Within the nearby dark red forest, a group of registered disciples were frantically fleeing.
Behind them was a massive dark-red beast, armored in thick plates. Between the gaps in the armor flickered bursts of flame.
“A Burrowing Beast!” Dong Feng instantly identified it and frowned. “Strange. Burrowing Beasts are usually docile and territorial. Even if provoked, they rarely leave their nests. What did they take to make it go berserk?”
But Chen Fei noticed something else.
His gaze fell on the Burrowing Beast’s mouth.
Despite its stocky frame, its jaws weren’t particularly developed—but that didn’t mean it lacked biting power. The disciple clamped in its jaws was letting out a harrowing scream.
“What’s going on? Where’s the protective escape light? That level of injury should’ve triggered the emergency teleportation!” Chen Fei frowned deeply.
Dong Feng was also stunned. “You’re right!”
As the group of disciples fled in a panic and spotted Chen Fei and Dong Feng, they all rushed toward them.
“This is bad! Senior Brother Chen, we need to retreat!” Dong Feng quickly realized what they were doing and tried to pull Chen Fei away.
But Chen Fei shook his head, eyes locked on the Burrowing Beast. “Something’s definitely gone wrong.”
With that, he leapt directly at the beast.
Dong Feng didn’t think much of it—one small Burrowing Beast couldn’t possibly trouble someone like Chen Fei. He had instinctively wanted to avoid trouble.
Chen Fei wasn’t acting out of kindness either. He wanted to know why the protective light was failing. Perhaps saving this person would reveal the answer.
The Burrowing Beast’s eyes were blood-red. After chasing the others into terror, someone dared to charge at it?
Courting death!
With a flick of its head, the beast flung the nearly torn-apart disciple aside and roared, launching a fireball at Chen Fei.
“Foul beast! You dare fight back!” Chen Fei shouted coldly, lifting his sword. As it met the fireball, it exploded violently.
The beast’s eyes gleamed with pride, and it even let out mocking grunts—it was clearly taunting Chen Fei.
Unfortunately for it, Chen Fei cultivated with fire-elemental runes—this kind of flame was practically a tonic to him.
Before the beast could enjoy its moment of triumph, Chen Fei burst through the firelight, his sword glowing with unstoppable momentum.
“Thousand Illusions Slash—Tenfold Strength Amplification!” He was curious just how powerful this move had become.
This Burrowing Beast was an even better test than a sharpening stone.
With that thought, he slashed down.
The beast’s armor looked incredibly tough—but under Chen Fei’s blade, it was like tofu. It was split cleanly in two!
Chen Fei was pleased with the result.
A six-tiered Peak Spirit Realm beast—utterly powerless before him.
Dong Feng quickly rushed up. “Senior Brother Chen, slaying beasts so effortlessly—you’re truly a model for us all!”
Chen Fei gave him a deep look.
Dong Feng felt uneasy under the gaze, laughing awkwardly and scratching his head.
Such a beast held no interest for Chen Fei. He waved his hand. “Take care of this thing. I only want the core. The rest is yours.”
“Understood!” Dong Feng’s eyes lit up. Real rewards! A six-tiered Spirit Realm beast—its blood, hide, and armor were all excellent materials!
I’m rich! Truly rich!
Dong Feng cheerfully began handling the carcass while Chen Fei approached the gravely injured disciple who’d been flung aside.
Without hesitation, he took out a high-grade Rejuvenation Pill and fed it to him.
This third-grade peak pill had amazing restorative properties. Sure enough, the disciple’s pale face regained color, and his gaping wounds began to close rapidly.
Still, the poor guy had been through hell. If it had been any other beast, he’d have died instantly. Now he’d likely flinch whenever a beast opened its mouth.
“Ugh… It hurts…” the disciple groaned, then realized he’d been saved and quickly looked up.
Though Chen Fei’s face was unfamiliar, he quickly grasped the situation. “Thank you, Senior Brother, for saving me! I, Mo Feng, will never forget this!”
Chen Fei, however, was more concerned with why the escape light hadn’t triggered.
He frowned. “What happened? With wounds like those, you should’ve been teleported out long ago. Why didn’t it activate?”
Mo Feng looked puzzled. “I… I don’t know either. I also thought the light would kick in, but when the beast bit me, nothing happened.”
Chen Fei’s frown deepened.
Clearly, something had changed—something that rendered the protective escape light useless.
