Chapter 124: Yue Qianchou’s Legend
by Felipe Ferreira
An ancient, weathered yet calm voice that regarded everything with indifference buzzed in the minds of everyone from Floating Immortal Island: “The Demon Ghost Domain is not a place you should come. I do not allow a group of people with cultivation like yours to come and destroy the balance here. I give you half an hour to retreat and not venture deeper into the Demon Ghost Domain, or face death without mercy!”
“Who exactly are you? Why don’t you come out and meet us?” Ma Jiugu shouted sternly, though her face couldn’t hide her terror. The opponent’s strength was too powerful – so powerful that just a single thought could severely injure a group of late Tribulation Crossing stage cultivators. Unfortunately, that person didn’t respond to her words again.
Suddenly they saw Ao Li nodding repeatedly, obviously that powerful being was also speaking to him. After a moment, Ao Li said to his four subordinates in a somewhat panicked tone: “We’re going back.” After speaking, he took the lead in flying away through the air, with the four following closely behind. As for the green vine soft sedan they had arrived in, it had long been blown apart by that shockwave.
Seeing Ao Li, who had been so arrogant just moments ago, actually retreat in such a sorry state, everyone from Floating Immortal Island remained silent. Guan Dinghai suddenly thought of an impossible possibility and said in shock: “Could it be Deity Transformation stage?”
Hearing this, everyone’s bodies trembled. Yes, except for the legendary Deity Transformation stage, who else could have such strength? But it was truly hard to believe – if they hadn’t experienced it personally, who could believe that Deity Transformation stage cultivators actually existed? Ma Jiugu said in a deep voice: “He gave us half an hour. Let’s retreat to the mountain top first.”
The five consecrated elders flashed to Dongfang Changao and the others’ sides, each carrying two people, and quickly swept toward the mountain peak.
The elders from various sects on the mountain were shocked to see the approaching figures. Regardless of righteous or demonic paths, they all flashed over. After seeing clearly, they were so shocked their mouths couldn’t close. The ten elders from Floating Immortal Island including Dongfang Changao were unconscious, while the five consecrated elders had pale faces with blood traces at the corners of their mouths.
The consecrated elder who had stayed on the mountain was named Lu Qing. Seeing this scene, he said in stunned silence: “Ninth Aunt, what exactly happened?”
“Lu Qing, no need for many words. Help them heal their injuries first.” Ma Jiugu pointed to the ten elders including Dongfang Changao who had been placed on the ground, while she and the other four consecrated elders sat down cross-legged.
The elders from other sects looked at each other, their faces full of shock and uncertainty. What exactly had they encountered at the foot of the mountain? Even five late Tribulation Crossing stage consecrated elders were actually injured? It was simply too incredible. They all cast their gazes toward the foot of the mountain, but unfortunately couldn’t make out anything.
After a long while, the five consecrated elders gradually exhaled and stood up. After waiting a bit longer, the ten elders also slowly awakened. Dongfang Changao opened his eyes and immediately shouted: “Formidable! Who would have thought the Demon Ghost Domain was hiding such a person.”
Ma Jiugu immediately shouted: “Changao, don’t speak nonsense.” The former looked around and only then discovered he was back on the mountain top, with people from all the major sects present. He quickly shut his mouth and stood to one side.
The elders from other sects exchanged glances, shocked in their hearts. Although Floating Immortal Island wanted to conceal something, from Dongfang Changao’s words they could hear that the people from Floating Immortal Island had encountered someone at the foot of the mountain – moreover, someone who could single-handedly severely injure five consecrated elders plus ten elders from Floating Immortal Island. If Dongfang Changao wasn’t speaking nonsense, then this person was truly too terrifying. The Demon Ghost Domain was indeed not a benevolent place.
“Changao, check if those six disciples are still alive.” Guan Dinghai inquired. Dongfang Changao nodded, took out the compass, cast hand seals and set it up before everyone. The six divine sense light points on it were still bright, and from the distance between them, they were obviously gathered together.
Guan Dinghai asked again: “Do you know who these six people are?” For the sake of these six fellows, they had made a group of old-timers lose face – without asking clearly who they were, it was really hard to convince himself.
Elder Quan and Elder Sun exchanged glances – Guan Dinghai was their master. Elder Quan stepped forward: “Master, I know who these six people are. They are Gu Qingyun from Cultivation Pavilion, Xiao Wanqing from Tranquil Pavilion, Kou Xuehua, Murong Xian, and Mei Yinhong from Ten Thousand Fragrance Garden, plus one more who is…”
“What are you hesitating about? That’s only five – who is the sixth person?” Guan Dinghai turned back to scold his disciple.
Elder Quan was hesitating in his heart whether to remind his master that this was his son’s disciple. Seeing his master was unhappy, he simply said directly: “There’s also one from Alchemy Pavilion – Elder Guan’s only personal disciple, named Yue Qianchou.”
“Eh… Weiwu’s personal disciple? When did he take on a disciple?” Guan Dinghai said in amazement. He understood his son too well – he wasn’t the type to be a master at all, it would simply be misleading students.
“Is it Yue Qianchou?” Ma Jiugu suddenly spoke up with a sigh: “I’ve had contact with this disciple at Mulberry Grass Garden. Even I couldn’t have imagined that Weiwu would actually take on such an outstanding disciple. Ah! Truly, fools have fool’s luck!”
Guan Dinghai was even more amazed. Just how outstanding was the disciple his son had taken on? Even his aunt, who never praised people, was full of praise. He really needed to meet him to see for himself.
On the mountain top, fewer than eight hundred disciples from various sects remained. When they heard about Yue Qianchou, originally only one or two people were whispering, but before long, disciples from almost all sects were discussing him. They looked as if they all knew him, and their words were all filled with admiration and praise. This scene left the elders from various sects somewhat incredulous.
Qiu Wuyuan from Ten Thousand Demon Palace had met Yue Qianchou once before. First hearing Ma Jiugu’s praise, and now hearing the disciples also speaking highly of him – he’d never seen such a situation. When had he ever seen disciples from both righteous and demonic paths simultaneously praising one person?
Qiu Wuyuan had a bad temper, but people with bad tempers usually had impatient personalities. For a moment, everyone made him itch with curiosity, so he couldn’t help but shout loudly: “Can someone tell me what exactly is the deal with this Yue Qianchou?”
Naturally, his Ten Thousand Demon Palace disciples were the first to respond to his words. Several disciples came before him, paid their respects, then began telling Yue Qianchou’s legendary story, one speaking after another. Perhaps some felt they weren’t telling it appropriately, or that they were missing content. First, more and more Ten Thousand Demon Palace disciples gathered around, then gradually disciples from various sects all joined in.
Everyone started from how Yue Qianchou faced the Ghost General’s thousands of troops and horses, how he led everyone into the Ghost General’s military camp, how he remained unmoved in the face of the Ghost General’s subordinate generals’ rebukes, refusing to kneel, and how he chatted and laughed freely before the Ghost General and his many subordinates.
There was also the story of how the Ghost General was conquered by one of Yue Qianchou’s songs. The story of how the subordinate soldiers all shouted in unison “Master Yue is truly talented.” The story of the Ghost General inviting Yue Qianchou to drink freely. Finally, the story of how everyone was rescued by Yue Qianchou.
The disciples from various sects told the story of Yue Qianchou and the Ghost General in earth-shaking terms, especially the part about Yue Qianchou’s song determining the outcome – they told it in a way that moved heaven and earth and made ghosts weep. In short, the details of what happened were described very fully, as if everyone was experiencing it again firsthand. What’s more, some disciples who couldn’t get a word in – everything worth telling had been told by others – so they added embellishments, making dangerous moments even more dangerous and passionate moments even more stirring to the heart. They forcibly amplified things quite a bit. Some female disciples from Moon Gazing Sect who had considerable musical talent even spontaneously joined together to sing that song “Love the Country but Love Beauty More.”
The elders from various sects and the six consecrated elders from Floating Immortal Island listened with their mouths agape, all wishing they could pull Yue Qianchou over right now to see what kind of person he was. Qiu Wuyuan stroked his beard and sighed: “Truly a peerless hero! This old man misjudged! This old man misjudged!”
Elder Quan and Elder Sun looked at each other. ‘How did we not see that Yue Qianchou, who was drooling in his sleep on the flying ship, was such a person?’
Guan Dinghai’s facial muscles twitched as he said woodenly: “This is Weiwu’s disciple? Our Floating Immortal Island actually has such a person hidden away? It’s really hard to believe!”
Ma Jiugu thought of that day by the seaside, when it was precisely because Yue Qianchou’s song had moved Yan Zixia that she had the idea of bringing the two together. She couldn’t help but sigh: “I believe what they’re saying. This old woman once personally heard Yue Qianchou’s unparalleled skill in both qin and song. If you said he was number one in the world in this art, it wouldn’t be excessive – it’s truly breathtaking. Moreover, these disciples from righteous and demonic paths didn’t know him before – is there any need for them to flatter him?”
