Volume 2 Chapter 55

“Then we shall begin the assessment.”
At that moment, a young man in a suit walked into the conference room. Several elderly men were already seated inside. Though advanced in years, they were impeccably dressed and sharp in spirit, nothing about them resembled frailty. Instead, they exuded a formidable presence.
As soon as the young man entered, all eyes turned toward him in unison. Their gazes were as meticulous and exacting as those of expert collectors appraising priceless antiques.
Under such scrutiny, the young man felt his legs weaken. These elders were no ordinary figures, time had not dulled their minds, but sharpened their perception. One glance into their eyes made it clear they had weathered countless storms. Indeed, these men were the previous generation of leadership within the Bai Corporation.
In other words, it was under their guidance that the Bai family patriarch had transformed the company from a fledgling enterprise into an industry powerhouse.
“Let us begin with some questions on corporate law, this is fundamental for any heir,” said one elder seated closest to the young man.
“First, briefly explain the concept of a legal person. What is a legal person?”
“A legal person is an entity that possesses civil rights capacity and civil conduct capacity… uh… wait, let me think…” The young man’s face was tense, his legs trembling uncontrollably.
“Ah, I remember, it is an organization that, according to law, enjoys civil rights and assumes civil obligations!”
“Hmph. You can barely recite such a simple concept! Next question,” another elder said coldly.
Though he had answered correctly, the young man’s face turned pale under their harsh rebuke.
“Then tell me, what is a creditor’s right of subrogation?”
“Th-this…” The young man fell silent.
“If you can’t answer, we move on,” the elder said with a darkened expression.
“W-wait! Let me think!” the young man stammered in panic.
“If you cannot answer fluently, then in our eyes, it is as good as not answering at all!” the elder seated at the center barked sharply.
The elders proceeded to ask several more questions. Their earlier reprimands had shaken the young man deeply, so much so that even when he knew the answers, he could not articulate them properly.
“Sigh… With this level, you dare come for the Bai family heir assessment? If you were to inherit our corporation, what future would we have? Leave.”
After those words, the young man walked out of the room like a lost soul, dazed and hollow.
“Sigh, after interviewing so many candidates, I still think Bai Yuxuan is the most promising,” one elder remarked after the young man left.
“Indeed. Compared to him, the others are nothing more than gravel beside jade.”
“It was merely a lapse in managing subordinates. For a sixteen-year-old to run multiple subsidiaries at once is already remarkable. Stripping him of his heir status over a single mistake is rather excessive.”
“Exactly. Who hasn’t made mistakes in their youth?”
The elders nodded in agreement.
“Was your second son also eliminated from the heir assessment?” outside the conference room, one of Bai Yuxuan’s uncles whispered.
“Yes… This assessment is far too difficult. Our children, who lack experience, can barely even speak fluently in front of those old men,” the other replied quietly.
“In the end, it all comes down to Bai Yuxuan. If not for him, our children wouldn’t seem so inferior. But with a monster like him for comparison, those old men will inevitably look down on them.”
“If only Bai Yuxuan didn’t exist…” one uncle sighed.
“Second Brother! I agree, if only he didn’t exist!” another uncle said, placing a hand on his brother’s shoulder.
“What are you planning? If you intend to do something foolish, don’t drag me into it!” the elder brother immediately sensed the dangerous intent in his younger sibling’s eyes.
“Do you realize how tightly his father keeps watch over him? If we make even the slightest misstep, not only will we fail to eliminate him, we’ll bring disaster upon ourselves!”
“You don’t need to worry about that. Tomorrow is Sakura Academy’s excursion. The destination is deep in the remote mountains outside Xijiang City. Even with his father’s network, outside his territory there are bound to be gaps.”
“But I heard the excursion is voluntary. Someone like Bai Yuxuan, who only focuses on studies and corporate affairs, would he even attend such an event?”
“Rest assured. A contact at Sakura Academy informed me yesterday, Bai Yuxuan has already signed up. He should be on her way now.”
At that moment, inside a luxury car, Ouyang Qianxue and Bai Yuxuan sat side by side in the back seat.
Though seated close together, neither of them had spoken a word the entire journey.
“I was thinking…” Ouyang Qianxue tried to break the silence.
“Be quiet. Until I decide on what I said that day, do not speak to me,” Bai Yuxuan said coldly.
Ouyang Qianxue fell silent at once. After being shut down like that, the atmosphere became unbearably awkward. He picked up the cup beside him, pretending to drink water to ease the tension, when suddenly, the car swerved violently to the right.
Under the force of inertia, Ouyang Qianxue was thrown sideways. With the cup still in his hand, he couldn’t steady himself in time and crashed straight into Bai Yuxuan.
The water in his cup spilled directly onto her chest. Since Bai Yuxuan was wearing a white T-shirt, the chest binder beneath was instantly revealed.
“Sorry!” Ouyang Qianxue exclaimed in alarm.
“Let me help you wipe, ” Before he could finish, Bai Yuxuan forcefully shoved his head down onto her lap.
“Mm, Bai Yuxuan, what are you doing?!” Ouyang Qianxue struggled to break free.
“Ah, sorry! The road suddenly collapsed ahead, so I had to make a sharp turn. Are you two alright, ” the driver began apologizing, but when he glanced at the rearview mirror, he froze.
Ouyang Qianxue was pressed against Bai Yuxuan’s lap, his face dangerously close to the space between her legs, while Bai Yuxuan held one hand over her chest and the other firmly on his head.
“Uh… sorry for interrupting!” The driver quickly averted his gaze.
“You two look no older than sixteen or seventeen, yet you’re already playing this boldly in the car… Young people these days are truly something. This old man can’t keep up anymore!”
“Bai Yuxuan, you… you should let me go already!” Ouyang Qianxue flushed bright red upon hearing the driver’s remark.
