Chapter 400
by post_apiChapter 400: Arriving at the Capital City Sinirka
Over a dozen days later…
“That must be the capital of the Rollo Kingdom, Sinirka, right?”
“It certainly is! Even viewed from this high altitude, its scale is immense… far larger than Aowenduo Town.”
While answering Army Lady, Lvzi also gazed into the distance.
Looking directly downward from the sky, they saw towering city walls stretching over ten miles, with buildings inside divided into dozens of districts by numerous main roads, while a great river cut across the entire city.
In terms of sheer area, it might well be more than ten times the size of Aowenduo Town.
“We should land here. Flying Reifon over the capital might draw the attention of the city guards.”
Magic Rainbow, who shared a Reifon with Stealth One, suggested.
“Hmm.”
The girls acknowledged, then had the Reifon descend to ground still some distance from the royal capital.
After letting the Reifon return on their own, they proceeded toward the city gates.
It was approximately seven or eight in the morning, with considerable foot and cart traffic flowing through the gates.
To avoid drawing unwanted attention, they separated to queue at the gate, with those of striking appearance donning hoods or masks.
A lengthy line of pedestrians and vehicles stretched before the city entrance.
…
After about half an hour.
“Next!”
A guard casually called after inspecting a cart.
Magic Rainbow stepped forward and presented the identity card previously issued in Aowenduo Town.
The soldier examined the card briefly.
“Aowenduo Town?”
He furrowed his brow slightly, seemingly unable to place this particular town.
This wasn’t surprising—Aowenduo Town being a border settlement in the Duchy of Ma’ika, few besides merchants and nobles ever journeyed to the royal capital Sinirka.
“Is there an issue?”
“No, the identity card checks out. Pay the entry fee and proceed.”
The soldier gave Magic Rainbow a cursory glance without requesting mask removal.
Standard procedure required only identity verification for pedestrians, with extra scrutiny reserved for carts.
Following Magic Rainbow, Demon One and Demon Two presented their identity cards and entered.
Army Lady, Lvzi, and Stealth One presented Adventurer IDs instead.
The B-class Adventurer Level displayed on their credentials startled the guard.
Reaching B-class adventurer status required combat prowess of at least Class C… meaning these three women were powerful Class C humans at minimum—a sobering realization when even the gate captain was merely a high Class D human.
“You three are actually B-class adventurers?”
The soldier was startled, then eyed the three hooded women suspiciously.
“What, do you need proof?”
The blonde girl’s voice lowered.
“No… you may enter.”
The soldier meticulously examined the three Adventurer IDs in his hand. Finding no issues with the documents and likely wishing to avoid provoking the three advanced adventurers before him, he waved them through.
The three women exchanged glances, sighed in relief, and proceeded through the city gate.
Once inside the city,
the view suddenly opened up before them.
A square-like open space lay ahead, bustling with pedestrians and vehicles, presenting a lively scene.
Magic Rainbow, Demon One, and Demon Two, who were ahead, had already entered. Spotting Army Lady and her companions, they waved them over.
When the two groups met, Army Lady, Lvzi, and Stealth One noticed a young boy accompanying Magic Rainbow and the others.
“Who is he?”
“This young man is a rather well-known living map in the royal capital,”
Demon Two said playfully.
“Though whether he’s exaggerating remains to be seen.”
“I’m not boasting!”
The little boy retorted stubbornly, though his small face flushed crimson. His eyes kept stealing glances toward Demon Two’s hood.
His short stature had allowed an accidental glimpse of the face concealed beneath Demon Two’s cloak.
She too possessed snow-white hair, but unlike Demon One’s striking heterochromatic red and blue eyes, hers were a translucent green. Paired with her equally striking features… that fleeting glimpse was truly breathtaking.
“This is quite common,” Magic Rainbow explained. “In large cities, there are always individuals familiar with the city’s layout and various landmarks who offer their services at the gates… hmm, in terms from that other world, they’d be called tour guides, right?”
“We need to rent a carriage next, and we don’t know the location of Rollo Magic Academy.”
“Ah, there’s a carriage rental nearby! I can take you there immediately!”
Snapping his gaze away from Demon Two’s face, the boy quickly responded.
Business as a “tour guide” in this royal capital was difficult these days. Competition was fierce, and they often had to offer “incentives” to the gate guards. Otherwise, they risked expulsion for “obstructing traffic” or “marring the city’s appearance”… Angering the soldiers could even lead to imprisonment.
The boy desperately didn’t want to lose these hard-won clients.
“Then lead the way. We leave it to you,”
Lvzi added.
The women followed the boy to a carriage rental yard, securing a carriage spacious enough for their entire group, with room to spare.
They then set off for the renowned Rollo Magic Academy, guided by the boy’s directions.
The carriage rocked gently as they traveled. The boy sat somewhat stiffly in a corner by the window.
Being the only male among the women inside, he could detect a subtle fragrance permeating the carriage. Unaccustomed to so many female companions, his face flushed uncomfortably.
The presence of an outsider kept conversation minimal. The women either watched the passing pedestrians and buildings with curiosity or observed the young boy.
“We’re almost there! Just turn right at the intersection ahead and continue straight for a few hundred meters to reach Rollo Magic Academy,”
the boy instructed the driver outside. Perhaps finding the silence oppressive or driven by curiosity, he addressed the women:
“Sisters, what brings you to Rollo Magic Academy? You must be from out of town, right? I hear that academy only admits noble children or exceptionally gifted magic prodigies.”
“Well, there’s your answer,”
Lvzi smiled, gesturing towards Demon One and Demon Two.
“They are the great geniuses studying magic!”
