Volume 1 Chapter 21
by Need_More_SleepVolume 1 + Chapter 21: No Title
“Boss, stop running! Just surrender already!”
“Nyah~”
Shuo Yan stuck her tongue out at Qian Zexing, who was chasing her from behind. Wait to get spanked? No way she was doing that.
“Urgh, you little…!” Seeing her mischievous expression, Qian Zexing’s anger flared. She swore in her heart that once she caught her, she’d make her regret it.
And so, the two adorable little lolis chased each other around the spacious hall.
“Phew~ Big sis is so playful,” Shuo Shuo, standing to the side, covered her mouth and giggled, then turned to us. “There’s still some time before lunch. How about you watch some TV for now? There are also lots of novels on the bookshelf on the left. Feel free to browse if you’re interested.”
Novels?
Our gazes followed to the far left corner of the hall, where a modest-sized bookcase stood, neatly filled with many novels.
But the Boss isn’t really into novels… Maybe her little sister likes reading them? With this many books, it’s obvious Shuo Shuo is a bookworm.
Suddenly, I felt someone tugging at my sleeve a few times. It was Su Guo sitting next to me. She looked at me with hopeful eyes, then glanced over at the bookshelf.
The meaning was clear. She was too shy to go get a book by herself and wanted me to go with her.
How could I bear to refuse someone so cute?
We followed Shuo Shuo over to the bookshelf.
There were all sorts of books, a dazzling array. I didn’t know what to pick, so I randomly pulled out one titled “On the Miserable Life of a Code-Writing Author.”
Su Guo, however, opened her big black eyes wide and began choosing carefully. If there was anyone in the dorm who loved reading the most, it was definitely Su Guo.
During school life, Su Guo spent most of her time in the library. She had a great interest in books, she could be perfectly happy reading for an entire day.
She hesitated, her eyes scanning the shelves, then suddenly lit up when they landed on a familiar cover.
Su Guo stood on her tiptoes, trying to reach a book on the very top shelf, but her body was just too short, she simply couldn’t reach it.
Just as Su Guo was getting anxious, almost to the point of tears, Shuo Shuo behind her gently picked her up and brought her closer to that row of books.
With the support beneath her, Su Guo happily retrieved the book she wanted. However, when her toes touched the ground again, she realized a girl had just picked her up, and her cheeks suddenly flushed red.
“Th-thank you,” came a soft, barely audible voice.
“Hehe~ No problem at all. The book you chose… is it ‘Flowers Like Morning Twilight’?” Shuo Shuo’s voice held a note of curiosity.
“Mhm, mhm! I really like this book. It tells the story of an amnesiac little girl who has the ability to see spirits. On her journey to find her memories, she makes many ghost and monster friends. It’s a really interesting story.”
Once she started talking about the novel, Su Guo seemed to become a different person, shedding her usual shyness. She excitedly told us about the book’s contents, her voice much louder than usual.
Hearing Su Guo’s praise for the book, a strange light shone in Shuo Shuo’s eyes. She smiled and said, “Thank you.”
After getting the books we wanted, we sat down on the sofa to read.
By now, Shuo Yan and Qian Zexing, exhausted from their endless chase, had also collapsed onto the sofa, out of breath.
“Huff, huff… Boss, h-how can you… go back on your word?”
“Haah, haah… B-but it was my little sister who beat me fair and square. H-how does that count as you winning?”
……
Even while panting for air, they were still arguing over who won.
“Boss, Little Three, just let it go. Call it a draw. No one loses out, how about that?”
I played the peacemaker in the middle, trying to soothe both of them.
They weren’t petty people. What was said was said, and the matter of the game was dropped.
“Huh? Xiao Guo, why are you holding a book Xiao Shuo wrote?”
Shuo Yan noticed Su Guo reading “Flowers Like Morning Twilight” and asked curiously.
“Xiao Shuo wrote it?” x2
Both Su Guo and I were momentarily confused by the Boss’s meaning.
“I mean, this book, ‘Flowers Like Morning Twilight,’ was written by my little sister, Shuo Shuo. I’m surprised you’re interested, it’s pretty boring, I think,” Shuo Yan said, shrugging.
“Th-that’s amazing!”
She wrote this book? That’s truly impressive, to have a published book at such a young age.
Just like me, Su Guo was stunned, her mouth agape. The author of a book she loved so much was actually her roommate’s little sister? Something like this happening in the real world felt truly dreamlike.
“It’s really nothing. Just got lucky. Besides, the sales for this book aren’t high. Nothing to boast about,” Shuo Shuo said modestly, smiling like a proper young lady from a good family.
“N-no, that’s not true! This book is wonderful! It’s not just luck! Everyone, everyone really likes it!”
Su Guo seemed to use up all her energy for the day. She spoke with rare excitement, and speaking so hurriedly for the first time left her a bit breathless.
Shuo Shuo’s body trembled slightly, her brown twin-tails swaying at her waist.
Her expression turned serious. She solemnly bowed to Su Guo. “Thank you for your praise, Su Guo jiejie. It makes me very happy.”
Seeing the author she admired bowing to her, Su Guo was instantly at a loss.
“Pfft~ Alright, alright. Consider this a small fan meet-and-greet. No need to be so formal. There will be plenty of chances to meet in the future.”
Shuo Yan lightened the now somewhat tense atmosphere.
“Yes, I really like you older sisters too. You’re very welcome to visit anytime,” Shuo Shuo said, reverting to her usual smile. Then, checking the time, she said to us, “It’s almost mealtime. I’ll start cooking in the kitchen now. I’ll call you when lunch is ready.”
With that, she headed for the kitchen, leaving the four of us in the living room.
In the kitchen.
Shuo Shuo closed the kitchen door and hummed a little tune happily.
She took out her phone, opened QQ, and tapped on the contact named “As Expected” in her special attention list.
This was her favorite illustrator. She had always invited her to do the artwork for her novels. Moreover, this illustrator also loved Shuo Shuo’s works dearly. The two could be considered rare confidantes online.
Opening the chat window, Shuo Shuo eagerly typed:
[Little Guo, I met a really cute older sister today. She really likes my book! It’s the first time someone has praised my book so much right in front of me. Hehe!]
After sending the message, Shuo Shuo placed her phone on the table and began preparing to cook lunch.
Her brown pigtails bounced as she moved, and a smile never left her face. Her mood was clearly excellent.
At that moment, the phone in Su Guo’s hand, sitting on the sofa, vibrated. She opened the screen and tapped on QQ.
A contact with the ID “Abundant Fruits” had sent her a message.
