Volume 1 Chapter 617
by post_apiChapter 617: The Familiar Feeling of "Heritage"
"Please have some tea."
The three-headed giant beast had completely walked out from behind the high platform.
It was a massive skeleton, as huge as a hill, more than ten meters tall and dozens of meters long.
Its four leg bones were thicker than the stone pillars in this broken temple, and its gray-white, curved spine resembled a mountain ridge.
The three fierce white skull beast heads placed on top did not look out of place at all.
This was enough to scare any daring adventurer into falling to the ground in fear.
However, these three skull heads showed a respectful and even flattering expression towards Lolth with their bloodless faces.
"Honored guest! Have some tea!"
"This tea is personally made with the blood and flesh of a demi-god; it is very precious!"
As it spoke, a teapot and a teacup appeared in the air, floating before Lolth, filled with steaming hot tea.
Lolth took a sip and sensed the strong aura of death within it.
If an ordinary spirit or undead clan member took a sip, their strength would likely increase significantly.
"Good tea."
She praised quietly, unraveling the magic within.
Then, she looked at the fierce beast heads.
To be honest, Lolth didn’t know why these three-headed creatures were so respectful to her.
But since they thought she was important, Lolth saw no reason to deny it.
This would be very helpful for her in finding Dorothy.
"What do you mean by ‘inheritance’ that you just mentioned?"
She held the teacup and looked at the white-boned giant beast as she asked.
"Well, it’s about what our master told us before leaving—there will be a young one who carries their spirit, coming to take their inheritance and inherit this Divine Kingdom… at that time, we will be responsible for testing whether that heir, our ‘little master,’ is worthy of becoming our new master!"
The head on the left said happily.
The head on the right glanced at it and asked a question.
"Can we really tell the guests about this?"
The head in the middle sighed.
"Since it has been said, it doesn’t matter now…"
"You are the master’s friend. I can sense a presence of death around you, but it is at a higher level than theirs…"
"If the master is not here, can you help him oversee this inheritance?"
"For thousands of years, our power has been constantly sought after by outside gods who steal the master’s inheritance, and we can no longer maintain the fairness of this inheritance…"
"Especially since four inheritors have appeared at once."
It sighed and looked sincerely at Lolth.
Four inheritors?
Upon hearing this news, Lolth was quite surprised.
Besides herself… there were four other people?
Dorothy, Patricia, and who else?
A young person from the Bennett clan, or perhaps a descendant of The Church of Light?
Because she had not entered the banquet hall, Lolth did not know that the people of The Church of Light… had almost been completely wiped out.
But among these four people, there must be Dorothy.
Her goal had always been to find Dorothy and quickly take her away.
As for inheriting the "legacy" and this Divine Kingdom… whoever wanted to inherit it could!
In this strange and death-filled Divine Kingdom, if it took a moment, it might just be struck down by the God of Light’s Holy Light!
Although becoming a god sounded like a very tempting option for most people…
Lolth absolutely did not want her disciple to become an evil god!
She believed Dorothy felt the same way.
So, thinking of this, Lolth quickly nodded and agreed to the proposal from the three-headed creature.
"Alright… then I will oversee the selection of the ‘heir’ on behalf of my old friend."
As Lolth said this, the three-headed monster excitedly bobbed its heads.
"That’s wonderful!"
As it said this, the middle head lifted high, opened its wide mouth, and spewed out grayish smoke.
The other two heads also "opened up," spitting out a grayish-white light.
The two came together quickly to form a "picture."
The picture split into four, showing four different "scenes."
Each scene’s background was somewhere in this Divine Kingdom, featuring a shared sky and ground of bluish-gray tones, along with various broken tall buildings.
In the picture, there was also a shadowy figure shrouded in mist, moving slowly.
Lolth looked at these pictures, paused for a moment, and then started to complain.
"No way, this is still blocked!"
Because the mist was a grayish mass, Lolth could not recognize the identities of the four people at all.
"This is what the master instructed, to prevent ‘favoritism’ and ‘mistakes in judgment,’ and also to protect the inheritor," explained the head on the left. "Only when the true inheritor is chosen will the mist clear away!"
It said very enthusiastically, and Lolth could only nod.
"So that’s how it is."
Since it was a rule made by a deity, Lolth felt it was better not to break it.
However, within the limits of the rule, she thought she might have a way to figure out who Dorothy and Patricia were.
Maybe she could even find out the identities of the other two.
After all, even though their identities were hidden, their actions would not lie.
Moreover, since she was a "supervisor" and not just a simple "examiner," Lolth realized she might have some special permissions.
"So, what can I do?"
Lolth looked at the skeletal giant beast and asked.
"You can check their ‘stage tasks’ and give them some hints or more limits… However, when giving these, all four must receive the same level of limits or hints at the same time to ensure fairness."
"The inheritance system in the Divine Kingdom will automatically determine if the limits and hints you provide are of the same level."
Still, the head on the left explained to Lolth.
Lolth gently nodded.
Instead of "supervising," she felt more like the director of a reality show…
Checking progress anytime and anywhere, adding or removing events to control everyone’s progress.
Wait a minute… This feeling is a bit familiar.
Lolth suddenly thought of the "inheritance and selection" she had experienced as a participant in another half-plane, her expression a bit strange.
It should just be… a coincidence, right?
She decided to set aside her déjà vu for now.
"Stage Task," she looked at the upper left corner, where a shadow moving among a pile of giant bones seemed to be searching for something, "Let me see what her task is."
Lolth said this as she tried to explore her "permissions."
