Volume 1 Chapter 4
by Need_More_SleepVolume 1 + Chapter 4: Because I Miss You
Leah had a very long dream, where she took the pill she had been yearning for, and its taste wasn’t as bitter as she had imagined, it was even a bit sweet.
After taking the pill, there wasn’t much pain either. She just closed her eyes and when she opened them again, she saw that gentle face she had been thinking about constantly.
She was still as gentle and beautiful as ever. In the dream, Leah had her first fulfilling meal in a long time, and for the first time wore warm, soft, beautiful clothes.
While these were the most ordinary things for normal people, for Leah, they became one of her few moments of happiness.
But dreams always come to an end. As Leah’s consciousness gradually cleared, Eve’s gentle face that she had been thinking about began to blur before her.
She instinctively tried to prevent this, mumbling a few nonsensical words, and even called out “mama.”
Because she felt so helpless, so desperate to see her…
In others’ eyes, Eve was an unforgivable witch, but in Leah’s eyes, Eve was her only family in this world.
Humans always feared witches, saying they were evil beings that must be eliminated whenever discovered.
Leah had never felt that witches were evil, in fact, the “evil witch” who was sentenced to hanging had once taken care of her with utmost attention.
It wasn’t just Leah, Eve’s gentleness and kindness were almost universally known…
In contrast, those self-proclaimed righteous humans and those high-and-mighty members of the Holy Church never bothered to look down at Leah.
When Leah couldn’t eat or stay warm, they ignored her. When Leah was bullied at the Church Academy, they turned a blind eye. In their eyes, Leah was dispensable — someone without family, background, or any value worth exploiting — her death wouldn’t even be noteworthy.
But in this world where everyone treated her like a weed, there was once someone who treasured her like a jewel…
“Awake? Come eat something. Conditions are limited, so make do for now. Let’s fill your stomach first.”
A gentle voice urged Leah to painfully open a small crack in her eyes, which had become blurry with tears at some point.
Perhaps because of that dream just now?
She curiously observed her surroundings through her blurry eyes, unable to distinguish if this was dream or reality.
Her memory only extended to the moment she pried open Eve’s coffin lid, then everything went blank.
She vaguely remembered seeing something extraordinary…
But she couldn’t remember exactly what it was anymore. Now she only felt frustrated that she was still in reality.
If only she could live in dreams forever, at least there would be someone who loved her there.
“Here, open your mouth.”
A spoonful of warm soup entered Leah’s mouth, instantly driving away most of the cold from her body.
This familiar taste made Leah feel as if she had come back to life, and the more she thought about the taste of this hot soup, the more strange it seemed.
Suddenly, as if realizing something, she abruptly opened her eyes.
When she rubbed away the blurry tears in front of her eyes, she finally saw clearly the person before her.
“Eve… mama? No, no, Miss Eve? You… you’re still alive? Or am I dreaming?”
Leah looked at Eve before her with trembling pale lips, unable to believe that Eve, who had been dead for almost 2 years, was now in front of her.
She was still so beautiful, so gentle.
“Of course I’m still alive. Rather, I should thank you for saving me. So shouldn’t you also tell me what this means?”
Eve took out the unopened box of pills and waved it in front of Leah.
Seeing the box of poison, Leah instinctively furrowed her brows and lowered her head like a child who had done something wrong, not daring to speak.
“I… because I missed you. I really thought you were dead, I wanted to see you, and this was my only ticket to meet you…”
The little one nervously clenched her fists, her thin delicate face hanging low.
Looking at the pitiful little Leah before her, Eve’s feelings were mixed.
To be honest, the plot unfolding before her eyes had basically matched the original story Eve had read.
Except that the person who should save Leah shouldn’t be Eve, the marginalized plot device who was supposed to be dead, but rather the dragon-pride protagonist of the original story.
A bullied, fallen beautiful young girl who actually possessed great power and unlimited potential… such a character setup was most suitable to be the first conquest target of the dragon-pride protagonist.
