Volume 1 Chapter 21
by Need_More_SleepVolume 1 + Chapter 21: Embarrassment
Eve and Leah looked at each other, listening to the sounds inside, neither knowing exactly what was happening.
Click.
Then the door opened, and what entered Eve’s sight was still Qianzhi’s exquisitely beautiful face, cold to the bone.
Seeing that it was Eve who knocked, there wasn’t any ripple in her expression, she just calmly asked: “Do you need something?”
Qianzhi’s voice was just like her expression, as calm as a dead pool of water.
“Um, sorry to disturb you, I’m from next door…”
“Miss Eve, I know who you are.”
Qianzhi nodded, only her face showing through the door crack. Eve could tell she seemed somewhat guarded, so she didn’t plan to waste words or linger.
“I prepared some cookies, I hope you’ll accept them. From now on we’re neighbors, please take care of me.”
“Okay, thank you.”
Qianzhi accepted Eve’s cookies, and then the atmosphere fell into an awkward situation. The two of them looked at each other, remaining silent for over 30 seconds with neither speaking.
“Well then, I’ll head back first. If you need anything in the future, feel free to come find me next door. Also…”
Eve looked at the small, delicate slipper at Qianzhi’s doorway.
“Your shoe fell outside.”
“Oh, I was planning to throw that away. Thank you for reminding me.”
Qianzhi nodded calmly, but she didn’t pick up the shoe, instead continuing to stare at Eve with her cold expression.
“Well, that’s all then.”
Eve spoke somewhat awkwardly, then returned to her room with Leah.
What a strange child… Eve couldn’t help but mutter in her heart.
“Oh right, I almost forgot to ask about something more important.”
About this apartment building recruiting a full-time manager, as someone who had lived here longer, Qianzhi should know more about it, right?
Thinking this, Eve opened her door again, but she was surprised to find that Qianzhi hadn’t returned to her room, but was instead crouching down trying to pick up the slipper that had been thrown outside.
She was standing on one foot, one delicate white foot slightly raised, trying to slip the just-picked-up cute rabbit-patterned slipper onto her toe.
Upon seeing Eve, Qianzhi’s eyes suddenly widened a bit.
Her cute face also gained several obvious hints of blush.
In her panic, she almost lost her balance and nearly fell…
Fortunately, Eve was quick to react and rushed forward to catch her, otherwise she would have definitely sprained her ankle.
“Let me help you.”
Eve took the small, delicate slipper from Qianzhi’s hand, bent down and held her slender ankle, putting it on her foot.
When Eve held her ankle, Qianzhi’s body couldn’t help but tremble slightly. She hurriedly covered her mouth, afraid of making even the slightest sound.
“Do- do you need something else?”
Qianzhi forced down the shyness in her heart and quietly asked Eve who was crouching beside her.
At this moment, she was embarrassed to the extreme.
“I just wanted to ask about the notice downstairs. I’m looking for work, so…”
“You should go ask at the management office, it should… not be a problem.”
Before Eve could finish, Qianzhi had already understood her meaning. After speaking, she hugged the bag of cookies and hurriedly escaped back to her room.
Eve looked at the tightly closed door, couldn’t help but show a puzzled expression…
“Really is a strange child, but the management office, huh?”
Eve remembered it should be not far from here, she’ll go take a look tomorrow. Finding a job, regardless of the salary for now, at least it could solve her current predicament.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Qianzhi who was hiding behind the door carefully peeked outside through the peephole watching Eve’s movements.
Her heart was pounding, she didn’t know why, but whenever she saw this beautiful lady, her heart would involuntarily speed up.
This strange feeling made her feel very unfamiliar, it was the first time in her life she had such a feeling.
“Eve, huh?”
Qianzhi looked at the cookies in her arms, still slightly warm, smelling that fragrant aroma, she couldn’t help but show a slight smile.
