Chapter 212
by Need_More_SleepChapter 212: No More Playing With Lu Mingxue
In the hospital room, Yiwen lay wrapped in bandages.
Mi Xiaoliu visited her with a fruit basket.
But Yiwen was far from satisfied.
Mi Xiaoliu really doesn’t get it. Every time she visits, she brings a fruit basket. She should be stripping naked, wrapping herself in ribbons, and hiding in a gift box to surprise me!
Damn Mi Xiaoliu.
The hospital had become unavoidable—either Mi Xiaoliu was visiting Yiwen, or Yiwen was visiting Mi Xiaoliu.
Most of Yiwen’s injuries were from collisions, along with a shallow cut on her neck.
After being plunged into darkness, she’d immediately turned her entire ability range into a zero-gravity zone. She kept it active until her vision returned, exhausting herself and thoroughly confusing the doctors.
It couldn’t be helped. With sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste, and even instinct all gone, the only things she could do were think and sleep.
Night Demon’s abilities were LV4 Six-Sense Blockade and LV2 Concealment.
Current estimates placed his range at around 230 meters, allowing him to block anyone’s six senses within that area. Beyond that, if someone saw his form, he could still block their senses.
Photos and recordings didn’t count. In theory, nearsighted people observing from afar were safe, but snipers were useless against him. Thanks to his second ability, cameras couldn’t capture his image if he didn’t want them to.
Depending on the person, the sensory blockade lasted 3–6 hours and wouldn’t lift just because he left.
It was like being trapped in a dark dimension, making you question whether you were even alive.
Terrifying and hopeless—you didn’t even know if you were dead.
Cops who knew about him could at least reassure themselves they’d wake up if they survived. But strangers hit by his ability had no idea what was happening or how long it would last.
Pure torture.
When Yiwen recovered, she was in agony—not just from her twisted arm, but also the blood dripping from her forehead. All from collisions in zero gravity.
Ninja’s clones had been killed on the spot.
Dias fared better. His ability was Vibration, which not only packed serious power but also let him sense movement around him.
Unfortunately, sense fell under the sixth sense.
So he’d immediately charged forward, smashed through a wall, and made a hard landing from the seventh floor.
A reckless move, but it saved his life.
The cut on Yiwen’s neck showed the Night Demon had wanted to kill her—but for some reason, he’d stopped.
—
Outside in the hallway, Officer Chen spoke privately with Okulet.
“He doesn’t like targeting civilians, but if he happens across cops, gangsters, or Tian Xing Dao, he might kill them even without a grudge. Lately, he’s been the supplier for Fanzui City’s ability-enhancing drugs. Less like a mercenary or assassin, more like a mob boss. That’s why it’s hard to figure out why he’d personally go after stowaways.”
“Since his ability manipulates senses directly rather than creating a field, even the Lasvedo family’s eyes might not counter it. Your intuition probably won’t work on him either.”
Honestly, Night Demon’s ability wasn’t nearly as troublesome as the Red Prince’s. The difference was that the Red Prince barely bothered hiding his tracks, while Night Demon embraced underhanded cunning—even accidental witnesses got silenced to erase traces of his presence.
This time, he’d only left survivors because the sniper was too far to kill—and because he didn’t dare touch Yiwen.
“Telling me all this is pointless. I can’t help you.”
Okulet’s main job now was babysitting—both a task and a responsibility.
“Just a heads-up—he’ll come for Misha eventually,” Officer Chen said, shaking his head.
“We’ve confirmed his current targets are all Easter escapees. No idea if Misha’s on the list. If he ever moves against her, let’s hope your intuition’s faster.”
He forwarded Okulet an interrogation transcript from the stowaways.
Name: Inoue Shoichi, Male, 23
Missing since April nine years ago—should be 32 now. Ability: Can enlarge/shrink objects.
Like him, all captured stowaways had rare abilities and hailed from all over—some even vanished from the most secure metropolises.
Their appearances no longer matched their records. The gaunt middle-aged man in the interrogation room bore no resemblance to the chubby kid in his file.
They called themselves “The Avengers”, distrusted cops, and hated Easter.
None knew Night Demon.
And the best part?
Their goal in Fanzui City was to take down the Sixth Fractal.
A grand ambition—until they got arrested for illegal entry. Almost comical.
Officer Chen might’ve shared the file just because it mentioned Easter, but Okulet knew who the Sixth Fractal was.
His wife had nearly had a heartbreak-induced cardiac arrest after watching just a fraction of their daughter’s experiment footage. She couldn’t bear to see more.
To understand Misha’s condition, Okulet had forced himself to skim the full eight hours—heavily edited, with key details missing.
“This is all you got?”
“How much do you think test subjects would know?”
Fair point.
“One more thing—Night Owls might track him here. Be careful.”
Mi Xiaoliu was technically a captured Night Owl member, and Night Owls had a tradition of tying up loose ends.
After seeing Officer Chen out, Okulet stood in thought.
Maybe Night Demon should be dealt with preemptively.
He opened the hospital room door.
The first thing he saw was Yiwen holding a dorayaki and coaxing Mi Xiaoliu over.
“Here, kitty kitty.”
Mi Xiaoliu leaned in, biting the pastry while her chin rested in Yiwen’s palm, accepting the hand-fed treat.
Watching Mi Xiaoliu’s cherry lips move as she chewed, Yiwen couldn’t help licking her own.
I really want to taste them.
Okulet: “……”
He pulled Mi Xiaoliu behind him, blocking Yiwen’s view.
Yiwen was not happy.
She had almost succeeded in coaxing a kiss out of Mi Xiaoliu with “My neck hurts so bad, only a kiss from Xiaoliu can make it better.”
But Okulet was even less happy.
Every white-haired person is trouble.
“Dad… I mean, Uncle, aren’t you and my father’s friend? Did he ever tell you where he went?”
Okulet ignored her, instead guiding Mi Xiaoliu’s hands as she peeled an apple.
Just as infuriating as Old Chen.
Night Demon was the last person to see her father alive. While dealing with Mi Xiaoliu’s Dark Element was the priority, could she really let this chance slip when he’d delivered himself to her doorstep?
“Yiwen.” Mi Xiaoliu handed her a perfectly rectangular apple—or what was left of it.
Dubai knife skills. Only the core remained intact. The scraps hadn’t gone to waste, though—Okulet ate them.
“Thanks.” Yiwen took it.
Your daughter still peeled an apple for me.
Mi Xiaoliu stared at her intently.
Yiwen, puzzled, took a bite.
Mi Xiaoliu kept staring.
Yiwen took another bite.
Mi Xiaoliu: “I peeled it.”
Yiwen feigned realization: “Xiaoliu is amazing!”
Mi Xiaoliu nodded and started peeling another.
Okulet patted her head. “Gloria might visit this afternoon.”
It was the weekend.
Mi Xiaoliu looked up. “Going to Mingxue’s house this afternoon.”
“Be good. I’ll buy you whatever you want to eat.” Okulet had mastered the art of Xiaoliu-taming.
Heli’s teachings: Head pats, hand-feeding, and forehead flicks—master these three, and you’ll get along fine.
Gloria was coming specifically to see her sister. How could they let her leave disappointed?
Mi Xiaoliu froze.
…Was she hesitating?
“Wait, why are you going to Lu Mingxue’s house this afternoon?!” Yiwen was so shocked she nearly healed on the spot.
Just because Lu Mingxue was a girl didn’t mean she was safe. Since when did ordinary friends buy Mi Xiaoliu this much food?
“To eat.” Mi Xiaoliu answered honestly.
“Silly girl, she’s fattening you up so she can gobble you whole later,” Yiwen lied shamelessly.
“She’s lying,” Sasha clarified.
Mi Xiaoliu relaxed.
—
That afternoon, Okulet rode his e-bike with Mi Xiaoliu to buy meat.
At the butcher’s, Mi Xiaoliu watched as a pig was hoisted onto a scale.
She remembered how Lu Mingxue would lift her by the armpits and plop her onto a scale after meals.
Mi Xiaoliu clutched Okulet’s sleeve.
No more playing with Lu Mingxue.
