    Chapter 193: The Date

Yiwen buried her face in Mi Xiaoliu’s shoulder, inhaling deeply. A sweet fragrance clung to her—had she been marinating in body wash?

“Come here, give me a kiss.”

She planted a loud, smacking kiss on Mi Xiaoliu’s cheek.

…Because Mi Xiaoliu had turned her face away.

    Yiwen pouted.

We’re dating! It’s mutual! Why won’t you let me kiss you?!

Anyone would feel rejected, let alone a girl like Yiwen.

Lately, she’d noticed a pattern—Mi Xiaoliu was more responsive at night. During the day, she usually resisted. Why?

Is dating a girl always this exhausting?

Her excitement for the date cooled significantly.

Passing a bubble tea shop, she caught Mi Xiaoliu staring intently inside.

Mi Xiaoliu loved sweets and spicy food.

A mischievous idea struck. “Want some?”

    “Yes.”

    “Then kiss me.”

Mi Xiaoliu turned her head away.

Sasha said no kissing. Heli would get mad.

Sasha also said kissing makes babies. Heli didn’t teach that because Heli is shy.

Yiwen huffed but went in and bought a drink anyway.

    For herself.

She sipped it slowly, letting Mi Xiaoliu watch.

    Mi Xiaoliu stared silently.

    “Want some?” Yiwen teased.

    “Yes.”

“Here.” Yiwen handed over the half-finished cup.

Not to be mean! The cup was huge, and they were both petite girls—no way they could finish it in one go! And Mi Xiaoliu hated waste, right?

Yiwen had chewed on the straw a few times too.

She turned away, pretending to sulk. “Some girlfriend you are. So picky.”

Mi Xiaoliu flipped the straw and drank from the other end.

    Yiwen: “Hmph.”

Just you wait, you little brat.

    —

    Haunted House Escape Room.

As planned before summer break, they hit a horror-themed escape room.

But unlike the original plan, Yiwen no longer expected Mi Xiaoliu to “protect her like a man.” Now, she just wanted Mi Xiaoliu to tremble in fear and cling to her.

Before, despite liking Mi Xiaoliu, Yiwen had secretly resented how weak and timid she was—almost cowardly. If that continued, their relationship might’ve ended over some incident.

    But now?

Yiwen didn’t mind at all. Mi Xiaoliu’s delicate vulnerability just amped up her protective instincts.

She’d seen funny haunted house compilations online—staff dealing with ridiculous guests, commenters bragging “I’d punch the ghost!”

    But real life was terrifying.

Dim lighting. Jump scares lurking everywhere. The moment you relaxed—BAM! A hand on your shoulder, a ghoul in your face—

Yiwen clutched Mi Xiaoliu’s arm, shaking.

Why didn’t anyone warn her haunted houses were this scary?! Never again!

And why was Mi Xiaoliu so calm?!

“Pat pat.” Mi Xiaoliu patted Yiwen’s head.

    Yiwen: “…”

This was supposed to be me scaring HER.

    Hmph.

    Ignoring her now.

“Bathroom.” Mi Xiaoliu tugged Yiwen’s sleeve.

“Eh? No no~” Yiwen’s eyes lit up. She grabbed Mi Xiaoliu’s arm. “No time! No bathrooms nearby… Oh! There’s a great takoyaki stand over there. Ever had takoyaki? Let’s go!”

    “Mm.” Distracted, Mi Xiaoliu followed.

After buying takoyaki, Yiwen considerately got her a drink too—then sat on a bench, holding hands and smiling as Mi Xiaoliu ate.

Since Mi Xiaoliu was in boy-mode, Yiwen had worn a dress—though she kept a mask on to avoid nosy photographers. The hand-holding didn’t look too suspicious.

Once Mi Xiaoliu finished, she shook their linked hands. “Bathroom.”

“Mhm?” Yiwen pretended not to hear. “Oh! Arcade up ahead! Let’s play!”

She dragged Mi Xiaoliu toward it.

They played fighting games next—Yiwen utterly destroyed Mi Xiaoliu, who only knew how to mash buttons.

After another loss, Mi Xiaoliu stood. “Bathroom.”

“Nope! Losers get punished!” Yiwen grinned, gripping her shoulders.

Then she noticed—Mi Xiaoliu’s legs were shaking, and she could barely walk.

    Oh no.

Yiwen quickly rushed Mi Xiaoliu to the arcade’s restroom.

Sure, seeing Mi Xiaoliu desperately holding it in was amusing, and the thought of her wetting herself was kind of thrilling—but that was only fun if Yiwen was the sole witness. Having it happen in public would be too much.

She pushed Mi Xiaoliu into the women’s restroom, startling a few people, but a quick explanation smoothed things over.

These days, plenty of girls have short hair and a neutral style—at most, people just gave Mi Xiaoliu a second glance. No need for alarm.

    Pants successfully saved.

    —

“Next up, a movie!” Yiwen decided.

On dates, it was best to save the movie for last—and definitely not make it the only activity.

Movies could run two hours long, and no matter how much both parties liked the film, their attention would be glued to the screen. No talking, no bonding—just sitting in silence.

Unless it was a niche film, and they could snag a secluded corner seat… Ahem!

But when Yiwen tried to hold Mi Xiaoliu’s hand again—

    Mi Xiaoliu pulled away.

“I’m going home.” She turned to leave.

    “Huh?” Yiwen froze.

It wasn’t until Mi Xiaoliu was two meters away that Yiwen snapped out of it, quickly grabbing her.

    “I’m sorry, Xiaoliu! I didn’t mean it!”

    Panic set in.

She’d assumed Mi Xiaoliu wouldn’t get mad—that she could push things too far.

Even after I kicked her (|), she never retaliated…

Yiwen felt a pang of guilt.

    Mi Xiaoliu stood still, unresponsive.

“I won’t do it again, okay? Forgive me?” Yiwen pleaded, swallowing her pride. “I’ll buy you whatever you want later. Let’s just go see the movie, please?”

    “Mm.”

Mi Xiaoliu glanced at the time on her phone.

    Today’s homework won’t be finished.

Yiwen exhaled in relief. Thank goodness Mi Xiaoliu’s easy to appease.

I’ve gotta be more careful. Can’t make her mad again.

    —

The movie was a romance film—no need to worry about a guy’s preferences, which was convenient.

By the time it ended, the sky was already dark.

Yiwen dropped Mi Xiaoliu off at her place, then headed to Sunshine City’s Police Academy to continue her daytime training. Since she wasn’t a full-time student, she could only learn when instructors were free.

Might as well ask Humpback Whale if he can track down Dad’s whereabouts too.

Had her father stayed in Sunshine City all these years? If so, why hadn’t he come home? Did he get lost for a year?!

Or had he been wandering around? The last lead from Mi Xiaoliu was already a month old…

    —

     Meanwhile, at Raven’s House…

Despite the late hour, a stranger knocked on the door.

The LV4 bodyguard assigned to protect Mi Xiaoliu had arrived.

Dressed in casual clothes, he wore a black mask, stood around 180cm tall, and had a lean but muscular build. His most notable feature? Orange eyes.

Frankly, when Raven saw him through the peephole, her maternal instincts flared—he looked way too suspicious.

Luckily, he had the sense to flash his badge at the door.

    “Where’s Xiaoliu?”

“She’s doing homework. Won’t take long. Rest for a bit.” Raven offered tea—a polite way of saying, “Don’t disturb her.”

Most people would’ve sat down and waited.

But this guy? No manners whatsoever.

    “No need. I’ll get her.”

Without waiting for permission, he marched straight to Mi Xiaoliu’s room, knocked twice, and barged in.

Seeing Mi Xiaoliu in boy’s clothes didn’t faze him—his briefing had included photos of her disguised as a boy, along with the fact that she was actually a girl.

Raven hurried after him, only to see him grab Mi Xiaoliu’s arm, give a curt introduction, and start dragging her out.

Efficient to a fault. Mi Xiaoliu was still holding a pencil from her homework.

It was like a divorced dad storming in to kidnap his kid.

“Where are you going?!” Raven blocked his path.

“My niece got into trouble. Taking her to handle it.”

“Why drag Xiaoliu into your family drama?!” Raven abandoned politeness, planting herself in the doorway.

“Because I’m her bodyguard.” Nikita looked at her like she was stupid. Wasn’t it obvious?

He shoved Raven aside and hauled Xiaoliu to his car.

Raven tried to stop him, but something coiled around her legs.

    “YOU F*CKING HUMAN TRAFFICKER!”

As a normal person, all she could do was scream curses and throw a shoe at the departing car.

What kind of bodyguard kidnaps their charge?! Did he even get her mom’s permission?!

Already biased against superpowered cops, Raven immediately called the police—both to report the abduction and confirm if this guy was even a real police officer.
