Volume 5 Chapter 90
by Need_More_SleepVolume 5 + Chapter 90: Yamata No Orochi
“Evil manifestation, don’t you dare harm Fox-radish!”
Xia Yi gripped her rose staff and struck back the Jorōgumo shadow, stepping in front of Yue Liu and successfully blocking the fatal blow.
Thankfully, she had arrived in time. Had she been even a moment later, the little fox might already have met with disaster.
“Fox-radish, are you alright?”
“…”
The little fox lay on the ground with her eyes closed, offering no response. However, she was still breathing, her injuries, though severe, did not seem immediately life-threatening.
“Outsider, protect my descendant.”
Little Red jumped down from atop Xia Yi’s head, then carefully placed the little fox onto Xia Yi’s head instead, relinquishing her position.
“How is there a dragon here? How strange… Only nine-tailed foxes should be able to enter the sealed domain.”
The evil manifestation stared at Xia Yi, clearly puzzled.
“Could it be that Yue Liu brought her in? How improper, bringing an outsider into such an important place.”
“What’s wrong? Are you afraid?” Little Red looked toward the evil manifestation. “This is the first time I’ve seen that expression on your face.”
“Afraid?”
The evil manifestation’s gaze toward Little Red was filled with disdain.
“You think I would fear this outsider? Have you forgotten how many times you’ve failed over the years?”
“…”
“If you won’t answer, then let me remind you, you have never once succeeded. Every time a nine-tailed fox entered this place, you tried to communicate with them, yet failed every single time. Not one of them ever became aware of your existence. In the end, they were all killed by me.”
“You are beyond redemption, slaughtering your own descendants like this!” Little Red said angrily.
“And whose fault is that? It was you who split me off in the first place. The malice and hatred you tried to escape became my birth. You and I were originally one. The sins I commit are also your sins. In this world, you alone have no right to condemn me.”
“I feel no guilt toward you. The only thing I wish is to erase you from this world!”
“How laughable. This time, too, it will end in your failure, ”
“No. This time, there is a variable. Someone can finally hear my voice!” Little Red retorted. “The outcome this time will be different!”
“Your tongue is as sharp as ever,” the evil manifestation said, frowning.
All who had entered the sealed domain before were nine-tailed foxes. No outsider had ever come.
But this time, there was a dragon.
Because a dragon does not possess the bloodline of a nine-tailed fox, the evil manifestation could not influence her through blood. Thus, Xia Yi was able to perceive the remnant consciousness left behind by the Red Fox God.
“How foolish. Do you truly believe this weak dragon can accomplish anything?”
The evil manifestation commanded the Jorōgumo shadow to attack Xia Yi.
Just as before, the spider yokai spat silk toward Xia Yi, intending to bind her and restrict her movements.
“Ring of Flames!”
Raising her rose staff, Xia Yi channeled her magic with controlled incantation, converting it into fire-aspected energy and releasing her spell.
Blazing flames formed into a mobile ring that circled around her body, burning away all the incoming strands of silk.
“Ice Sword.”
She then condensed her magic into a blade of ice, grasped it firmly, and leapt toward the Jorōgumo shadow, choosing to take the offensive.
The shadow lashed out with its pitch-black spider legs, tearing through the air as it attempted to surround and strike her.
However, having already observed its fighting style, Xia Yi had anticipated its movements.
First, the Ring of Flames suddenly expanded outward, erupting with explosive force like a bursting shell, forcing back two of the spider legs. Then she swung her rose staff, displaying the strength of the dragon race, knocking away two more legs and creating an opening in the creature’s defense.
Slash!
The ice sword pierced into the Jorōgumo shadow, its frigid energy surging into the creature’s body. It let out a miserable shriek as its shadowy form shattered apart.
“See? I told you, this little silver dragon isn’t weak!” Little Red shouted excitedly.
“To be able to wield both magic and swordsmanship at once, you do have some skill. However… you should understand what level of monster Jorōgumo is.”
A dangerous glint surfaced within the evil manifestation’s smile.
Eight of its tails rose upright, casting ominous shadows.
“Damn it… you…!” Little Red’s expression changed drastically.
“What’s wrong?” Xia Yi asked, confused.
Little Red explained, “Back then, I slew many demons and absorbed the magic they left behind after death. The evil manifestation I split off can freely wield those powers. Among them… there is one particularly terrifying creature…”
“Come forth, Yamata no Orochi!”
The evil manifestation summoned a colossal monster, as vast as a mountain. It had eight grotesque serpent heads, writhing wildly in the air. Sixteen eyes glowed with savage light, all fixed upon Xia Yi.
Its lower body had fused with one of the serpent heads.
Hovering above, it looked down upon Xia Yi from on high.
“Insignificant dragon, witness the power of Yamata no Orochi.”
The evil manifestation directed one of the serpent heads to lunge toward Xia Yi, its massive jaws opening wide as it descended upon her.
“Ice Wall!”
Xia Yi released a surge of magic, erecting a massive wall of ice before her as a defense.
“Futile.”
The evil manifestation’s face was filled with contempt.
A sinister aura surged from Yamata no Orochi’s body, spilling out dense black mist like burning storm clouds, rapidly spreading across each of its serpent heads.
Empowered by the black mist, the serpent head shattered through the ice wall with ease, crashing into the ground and shaking the earth.
Its terrifying force transformed into an invisible tidal wave, radiating outward from the impact point, engulfing Xia Yi.
“Extreme, Frost Barrier!”
Xia Yi cast a powerful ice barrier around herself, consuming a vast amount of magic to barely withstand the attack.
As the aftershock faded, she stood there, panting heavily, gazing at the devastated ground. The evil manifestation of the Red Fox God was far more troublesome than she had expected, far more dangerous than the lingering resentment of the Azure Fox God in Taoyuan.
“Little Red, what do we do now?” Xia Yi asked. “Since you’re the Red Fox God, you should be able to do something, right?”
Little Red’s expression shifted. She fell silent for a moment, then spoke words that left Xia Yi utterly stunned.
“Right now… there is only one way…”
