Volume 5 Chapter 68
by Need_More_SleepVolume 5 + Chapter 68: That Is Reality
“Let’s bet on whether the noodles the boss makes… have scallions in them.”
Xia Yi and Ye Shan had turned it into a little game as she spoke slowly.
“Make your choice.”
“Don’t mess around, alright? Bai Lian is here!” Ye Shan looked utterly at a loss.
He simply couldn’t figure out what this white-haired little girl was planning.
Was she about to turn hostile?
There were so many foxfolk here, and this was the White Night Cult’s headquarters. If their identities were exposed, they would certainly die!
Yet Xia Yi looked completely relaxed, without the slightest hint of caution.
Of course, this elder of the White Night Cult didn’t particularly care whether Xia Yi lived or died. What he cared about was the capsule inside his own stomach.
“If you won’t choose, then I will,” Xia Yi said with a smile. “Since he’s been cursing me the whole time, I’m sure the noodles must contain plenty of scallions.”
Ye Shan never imagined that one day his life would depend on something as trivial as scallions.
Silently, he prayed again and again in his heart that the boss had not added scallions to the beef noodles.
But based on his understanding, the boss had been so caught up in cursing just now that Xia Yi’s casual remark at the end might easily have slipped his mind.
Most likely… There were no scallions in those noodles.
Time passed slowly.
Ye Shan’s forehead was drenched in sweat. He had already lost count of how many cups of tea he had drunk.
“Beef noodles are here!”
The boss walked over carrying three steaming bowls of beef noodles.
“Come on, give them a try! Our Iron Fox Beef Noodles are the house specialty, best eaten while hot!”
Ye Shan’s heart leapt into his throat.
“Here, Elder Ye Shan, this one’s yours.”
The boss set down the first bowl in front of Ye Shan.
Inside it… were scallions.
Ye Shan’s eyes widened. His lips turned pale, and for a moment he didn’t even know what to say.
“This one’s yours.”
The boss placed the second bowl in front of Elly.
This bowl also contained scallions.
“……”
Seeing this, Ye Shan’s heart sank halfway into despair.
Xia Yi silently watched Ye Shan, saying nothing. Yet her expression remained completely relaxed, as though victory were already certain.
“Here, this one is your beef noodles.”
The boss placed the final bowl in front of Xia Yi.
Xia Yi slowly shifted her gaze from Ye Shan’s face down into the bowl.
The smile on her lips gradually disappeared, stiffening into an expression of disbelief.
There were no scallions in the noodles.
It seemed the boss hadn’t ignored Xia Yi’s request after all, he had actually remembered it and deliberately left the scallions out of her Iron Fox Beef Noodles.
“Haa…”
Ye Shan let out a long breath of relief.
At last, the weight lifted from his chest.
According to the terms of the bet, Xia Yi couldn’t start any trouble here. Their identities wouldn’t be exposed, and his life would be spared.
After checking the bowl several times to make sure there really were no scallions, Xia Yi suddenly laughed.
“I don’t eat beef.”
“Ah?”
This time, Ye Shan’s expression froze completely.
“Elly!”
“At your command!”
Elly shot to her feet, flipping the table over in a single motion. She grabbed the bowl of Iron Fox Beef Noodles, the one without scallions, and hurled it straight at the boss.
The blow knocked the boss flat onto the ground.
“RAAAAH!!!”
Right in front of everyone, Elly released her dragon form, transforming into a massive green dragon.
“What’s going on?!”
“A dragon!!”
“Why is a dragon here?!”
Elly’s enormous body burst through the restaurant building. Swinging her massive claws, she sent waves of foxfolk flying.
The White Night Cult believers screamed in terror as chaos erupted everywhere.
“Have these two gone insane?!”
Ye Shan fled the restaurant as if running for his life. He knew exactly how terrifying this green dragon was. One breath of her poisonous dragon breath and every foxfolk here would die.
After escaping outside, he looked around frantically for Xia Yi, hoping she would remove the capsule inside his stomach.
“Huh? Where did she go? Where did the Silver Dragon Princess disappear to?!”
……
……
The weakened Yue Liu lay collapsed inside a cage cart. Chains bound all four of her limbs.
After being gravely injured by Bai Lian, she could barely move. Even maintaining consciousness had become extremely difficult.
“The one locked inside the cart… that’s the princess of the fox clan’s royal family, right?”
“Yeah. We need to escort her to the central square. After that, she’ll be punished in front of everyone.”
“This is vengeance against the false god, the Red Fox. Whether it’s the false god itself or the false god’s shrine maiden, they must be wiped from this world. Their very existence is an insult to Lord Azure Fox God.”
Outside the cart, the White Night Cult believers spoke among themselves.
Fragments of their conversation drifted faintly into the little fox’s ears.
Feeling the cart rattling as it moved along, the little fox realized she was being taken somewhere. From the believers’ words, she gradually understood her situation.
She was about to become a living sacrifice, destined to die during the ritual.
“This is bad… something’s happened…”
“Outside… there’s… a clan…”
“Hurry… go help…”
The little fox’s breathing grew weaker and weaker. She could barely make out the voices of the White Night Cult believers anymore.
No one was coming to save her.
Her father, the Nine-Tailed Fox Emperor, and her master, the great swordmaster Bai Yang, had both been controlled by the Fox God’s Eye, reduced to tools of the White Night Cult’s evil.
The cult had already seized complete control of the nation. There was no remaining force capable of opposing them.
She remembered what Bai Lian had said.
Soon she would disappear from this world forever.
“……”
In such despair, the little fox thought of someone.
She didn’t want to die.
There were still so many things she had yet to accomplish. She had promised that one day she would fight her destined rival in a fateful battle.
Yet that day would never come, she would leave this world before it arrived.
If possible… She wanted to see Xia Yi one last time, even if it was only to speak a few words.
But the little fox knew that such a miracle was impossible.
She herself had arranged for Xia Yi to board the Flying Swallow train. By now, Xia Yi had probably already reached the border by railway, left Fox Hill behind, and returned to the Dragon Kingdom.
It was over.
“Ying… ying…”
In a voice so faint it could barely be heard, the little fox softly called the name of the rival she had acknowledged for life. Summoning every last ounce of strength, she forced her eyes open just a sliver.
Even if it were only a hallucination before death… she wished she could see Xia Yi one last time.
Thud.
The cart heading toward the ritual site jolted violently.
Then, for some unknown reason, it came to a halt.
A large hole was suddenly torn open in the wall of the cart by brute force. Light poured through the opening, making the little fox shrink away instinctively.
Within the light, the little fox seemed to see a small figure glowing faintly as it stepped into the dark cage.
The chains binding her body were twisted apart. The figure gently lifted her injured body into its arms.
It was a scent she knew well.
The little fox thought this must be an illusion before death.
Yet the warmth she felt was unmistakably real.
“Fox radish, I’m here to save you!” Xia Yi said with a smile to Yue Liu.
