Volume 5 Chapter 57
by Need_More_SleepVolume 5 + Chapter 57: The Evil Dragon Xia Yi
Xiao Hong, a sheltered girl who had rarely seen the wider world, was stunned by the scene before her.
This was clearly not the fox tribe. The two women’s ears and tails were not fluffy at all.
The tails behind them looked strange as well, smooth and sleek, and their eyes were vertical pupils like those of snakes.
Given such features, there was only one possibility.
Xiao Hong had once heard her grandfather say that in this world there existed a race both wicked and terrifying,
Dragons!
“Am I… am I going to be eaten…?”
Frightened out of her wits, Xiao Hong collapsed onto the grass, trembling uncontrollably.
Swish, swish, swish,
She heard the rustling of plants behind her, along with angry, cursing voices.
“How did that old bastard’s granddaughter run so fast?”
“She’s just a child, she can’t have gone far. She must be up ahead. Hurry and catch her!”
These were the voices of the White Night cultists. They were close, almost upon her.
Xiao Hong recalled her grandfather’s tragic state moments earlier, and the brutal acts committed by the White Night cultists…
A sudden realization welled up inside her. Though they were of the same race, these people might be even more terrifying than the so-called evil dragon clan.
Clenching her small fists and gritting her teeth, the young fox girl stood up and ran to the front of the train, looking up at Xia Yi with pleading eyes.
“Please help me, Dragon! Defeat those bad people. Even if you eat me afterward, it doesn’t matter. As long as you can defeat those who hurt Grandpa and avenge him…!”
“Hm?”
Xia Yi revealed a puzzled expression. She did not understand why this fox girl had suddenly run up to her and said such things.
“Your Highness, what is…?” Elly was equally confused.
But soon, the doubt in Xia Yi’s heart was dispelled.
“Stop running, you damned heretic, … Wait, is that… the dragon clan?!”
The White Night cultists chasing Xiao Hong burst through the trees. When they saw the train hidden there, along with the dragons, they were struck with shock.
“Oh ho.”
Connecting what she had just heard with Xiao Hong’s plea, Xia Yi more or less guessed what had happened.
She lowered her head and looked at the fox girl.
“What is your name?”
“My name is… Xiao Hong…” Xiao Hong lifted her head and answered with gathered courage.
“Very good, Xiao Hong. You dared to seek help from an evil dragon. Since that is the case, I shall respond to your request.”
Xia Yi smiled.
“You filthy outsiders, what are you trying to do?! This is the territory of our fox tribe! If you dare lay a hand on us, Lord Fox God will be enraged and send down divine punishment!” the White Night cultists shouted arrogantly.
“Your Highness, what is happening outside?”
Karami and the other members of the dragon delegation were disturbed by the commotion and stepped out of the train. When they saw the White Night cultists, anger flared within them. If not for Xia Yi, the entire dragon delegation might have been destroyed by the White Night cult before. Seeing these people again naturally left them deeply displeased.
“Make these noisy fools quiet.”
Xia Yi stamped her foot lightly and issued her command from above.
“At your command, Your Highness.”
With Xia Yi’s permission granted, the dragons unleashed their pent-up fury and charged forward as one.
“Don’t be afraid, we have holy water!”
“Drink the holy water and we will gain Lord Fox God’s blessing! These dragons are nothing to fear!”
“Purge the filthy outsiders!”
The White Night cultists gulped down the holy water, falling into extreme fervor. Not only did they fail to flee, they instead rushed toward the dragons.
They might deceive themselves, but trying to deceive dragons was absurd.
Even after drinking the holy water, these ordinary fox tribespeople were no match for the dragon clan. They were beaten down without the slightest ability to retaliate.
Watching her own kin being attacked by the dragons, Xiao Hong felt not fear, but immense exhilaration. The oppressive weight in her heart was finally released.
As the last White Night cultist fell, she could not help but laugh.
“What an overconfident bunch. They weren’t even worthy of Her Highness lifting a finger,” Karami commented coolly.
“Beating up minor grunts is so boring. Can’t we have something more challenging…?” Elly muttered, feeling it was hardly as exciting as researching the train herself.
“Alright, Xiao Hong. The White Night cultists have all been defeated.”
Xia Yi leapt down from the locomotive and landed in front of Xiao Hong.
Xiao Hong came back to her senses. It was time to fulfill her promise. She lowered her head.
“Thank you, dragons. Then… please eat me.”
“Eat you?” Xia Yi was taken aback.
“Yes. As payment for your help, I will offer my life and give you a hearty meal,” Xiao Hong replied earnestly. “How could evil dragons possibly help outsiders for free?”
“…Well…”
Xia Yi was at a loss for words. She truly had no hobby of eating people raw.
“I’m not interested in eating you.”
“But… aren’t you evil dragons? Don’t evil dragons eat meat? At least a hundred people eat every meal!”
“What kind of stereotypical story is that?” Xia Yi did not even feel like complaining. “Forget it. Xiao Hong, there are some things I want to ask you.”
“Go ahead. If I know, I’ll definitely tell you,” Xiao Hong replied.
…
“I see. So it was indeed the White Night cult.”
After listening to Xiao Hong’s account, Xia Yi came to understand.
The village at the foot of the mountain, called Pine Blossom Village, had been attacked by the White Night cult.
Although the information Xiao Hong could provide was limited from a child’s perspective, the general situation could be inferred.
“Are you going to the village to eat people?” Xiao Hong asked timidly. “I’m only one person… I won’t be enough for all of you, will I?”
“Your Highness, shall we continue hiding here?” Elly asked. “Or should we help this little girl?”
“…”
Xia Yi closed her eyes and began to think.
“Your Highness, we could also consider leaving this place,” Karami suggested. “These White Night cultists won’t return anytime soon, but those remaining in the village might discover us. Leaving early would help us avoid trouble. The life and death of fox tribe civilians has nothing to do with us.”
From an objective standpoint, his words were not unreasonable, less trouble was better than more.
However, Xia Yi thought of something and opened her eyes.
“Aren’t we currently short on large amounts of food and water?”
“Yes,” Karami nodded. “We originally planned to search for supplies in the mountains, but the White Night cult disrupted our plans.”
“In that case, as evil dragons, what should we do?” Xia Yi asked in return.
“Could it be… you intend to…?” Karami began to understand.
“The White Night cult’s stronghold should have plenty of the supplies we need, shouldn’t it?” Xia Yi revealed a villainous smile. “So why shouldn’t we go and ‘borrow’ some?”
