Volume 5 + Chapter 51: The Train Racing Toward The Night Sky

“This is the array set by our Lord, The Infinite Evil-Sealing Array.”

Wu Tong dragged his katana as he walked toward Xia Yi, its tip scraping along the floor and throwing up sparks.

“Within the Infinite Evil-Sealing Array, you have no chance of victory.”

As long as the train continued along this stretch of railway, the sealing array laid down by the Lord of the White Night Sect would remain in effect, continuously suppressing the dragons aboard.

Xia Yi’s physical abilities had already declined drastically, she was no longer at the level of a superior species.

Before Wu Tong, she had completely lost her advantage in raw physical prowess.

“It’s time for you to go to hell, Silver Dragon Princess!”

Wu Tong raised his katana and slashed at Xia Yi.

She lifted her holy sword to defend, but this time she was sent flying by his blow.

“As long as our Lord leads us, under the will of the Fox God, even the dragon race is nothing before our foxfolk,” Wu Tong declared.

    “……”

Xia Yi offered no reply. She seemed to be deep in thought.

“Still thinking of a way to break the Infinite Evil-Sealing Array? Too late. Every move you make now is under my watch. With your current physical condition, whatever you attempt, I can easily suppress you. Trying to force the train to stop? Wishful thinking.”

    Wu Tong swung again.

Xia Yi threw herself to the side in a clumsy roll, barely evading the attack. She looked like prey being hunted, completely opposite to her earlier ease and composure.

It would only take a little more time before Wu Tong could kill her.

“What is it? Still pondering how to turn the tables? Silver Dragon Princess, since you’re so troubled, let me offer you a path. Release your true dragon form and make a final gamble. Leave the Flying Swallow. Like a stray dog, flee beyond the range of the Infinite Evil-Sealing Array. After some time, your strength will recover, and you might survive.”

Wu Tong leveled his katana, assuming a stance for a sudden charge.

“But the moment you leave the Flying Swallow, I will act. I’ll head to the carriage where the dragon delegation is and slaughter every dragon there. Go on, choose. Will you abandon everyone and live in disgrace, or die here at my hands?”

“You really think you’re someone important? You’re nothing but a clown jumping about on a stage.”

Xia Yi slowly rose to her feet, fury blazing in her eyes.

“I choose neither. I will crush you.”

Then she did something that utterly baffled Wu Tong. She abandoned her holy sword and instead summoned the Rose Staff into her hand.

“Silver Dragon Princess, have you gone mad? Forsaking your holy sword for such a laughable weapon?”

“The Rose Staff is more than enough to defeat you. Someone like you isn’t worthy of my holy sword,” Xia Yi replied coldly.

Magic surged around her. Using chant suppression, she raised her staff and summoned a raging blizzard, seeking to conceal herself within the snow.

“At death’s door, and still so stubborn!”

Wu Tong’s figure vanished in an instant as he charged forward.

    “Moonlight Flash!”

His blade technique shone like a crescent moon, tearing through the snowy mist and thrusting straight toward Xia Yi.

The katana struck against the Rose barrier, forcing Xia Yi back several steps, nearly knocking her off balance.

Faced with this pressure, she had no choice but to wield the Rose Staff directly in combat.

Wu Tong unleashed a storm-like assault, pouring out relentless sword techniques upon her.

Under such overwhelming pressure, Xia Yi had no spare opening to cast any spells, she was driven steadily backward.

If not for her master-level swordsmanship as a Sword Saint, she might already have been reduced to minced flesh amid the flashing blades.

    Time continued to slip away.

Within the snow-filled mist, the battle intensified to a fever pitch.

Xia Yi found it increasingly difficult to endure. Under Wu Tong’s mounting pressure, her defenses began to collapse.

She was like a lone skiff upon a raging sea, ready to be swallowed by towering waves at any moment.

“Here and now… I shall slay a dragon!” Wu Tong proclaimed. “I will fulfill my lifelong wish!”

Under the effects of the holy water, he was wildly exhilarated. Any pain he suffered in battle did not slow his blade, instead, it grew faster and faster, surpassing even the limits of his former peak speed.

Perhaps he had consumed too much holy water at once. With his nerves overstimulated, fragments of the past flickered before his eyes.

Once, he had promised his wife that he would become an unrivaled swordmaster, one who could even slay mighty dragons.

But she had not lived to see that day. She passed from the world, and Wu Tong fell into despair and decadence… until he met the Lord of the White Night.

Now, he felt he could finally fulfill that promise, slay a powerhouse among the strongest superior species.

    The time had come.

Retreat. Lower stance. Sheathe blade. Lock target. Exhale,

    Iaijutsu!

    “Dragon-Slaying Flash!”

Wu Tong poured his life’s devotion into this strike, drawing forth an unstoppable blade of light aimed straight at Xia Yi’s head.

After being suppressed by the Infinite Evil-Sealing Array for so long, her physical abilities were likely inferior even to a human’s.

There was no way she could withstand this blow.

The swordmaster’s lifelong wish would be realized here.

“Before absolute power, your swordsmanship is worthless.”

Xia Yi did not dodge or defend. Instead, she raised the Rose Staff.

She made no unnecessary movements, merely wielding plain, unadorned strength. With a single surge of force, she shattered Wu Tong’s Dragon-Slaying Flash.

The Rose Staff struck Wu Tong’s body, crushing the weapon in his hand. The terrifying force shattered the bones throughout his body.

    Wu Tong had lost.

    “Why…?”

Coughing up a mouthful of blood, the swordsman of the White Night could not believe what had happened.

The Flying Swallow was still in motion. The Infinite Evil-Sealing Array along the railway should still be active. So why did the Silver Dragon Princess still possess such overwhelming power?

“The low temperatures have spread beyond this carriage and into the others. The foxfolk aboard should all be frozen stiff by now, they can no longer control the Flying Swallow.”

Xia Yi raised the Rose Staff.

“This is no longer a train bound for hell. It has entered the domain ruled by our dragon race.”

“What… Do you mean?” Wu Tong asked in confusion.

    “Look around you.”

After speaking, Xia Yi dispelled the snow mist within the carriage.

Outside the windows was no longer the land of Fox Hills flanking the railway, but clouds beneath a vast night sky.

Though his bones were shattered, the holy water dulled the pain. Wu Tong staggered toward the window to confirm what he was seeing.

The Flying Swallow was traveling hundreds of meters above the ground. The railway below had transformed into ice, continuously forming beneath the train, veering away from its original course and ascending toward the radiant moon in the night sky.

“N-No… how is this possible?!” Wu Tong cried in disbelief.

“Don’t forget, I may be a Sword Saint, but I am also a mage. Now, pick up your weapon and continue challenging me.”

    “……”

“What’s wrong, dragon slayer? Weren’t you going to fulfill your lifelong wish?” Xia Yi’s voice was as cold as frost.
