Volume 4 + Chapter 84: Barbecue Feast

Joshua left the room.  

Xia Yi was plunged into distress. Without Joshua’s help, defeating Elizabeth would likely be an extremely difficult task, wouldn’t it?  

The Vampire Ancestor would surely try every means to restore her condition. Once completed, with that level of power, she might truly be ready to sweep across this land.  

What should be done about this?  

At that moment, a voice rang out.  

“Oh ho, are you troubled? Let me help you out!”  

Xia Yi looked toward the direction of the voice and saw a girl at the doorway, peeking half her body in as she greeted the two.  

It was none other than Sheryl.  

“Sheryl?” Xia Yi asked. “Didn’t you leave earlier?”  

Sheryl smiled and walked into the room. “Out of curiosity, I didn’t go far just now. I secretly listened to the entire conversation from the next room.”  

Xia Yi remembered that when Joshua introduced himself, he mentioned taking on an apprentice while practicing medicine in the Far North Lands.  

That person should be referring to Sheryl.  

“Sheryl, what did you mean by saying you could help me just now?” Xia Yi inquired curiously.  

“Actually, you haven’t spent much time with the doctor, so you don’t know him very well. He didn’t entirely reject you just now.”  

“Is that so?”  

“The doctor is hesitant. He hates his past life and doesn’t want to return to how things were. But just as Your Highness said, even if he keeps hiding in the Far North Lands, if that… Yes, the Vampire Ancestor is very powerful and launches a war, invading the Dragon Kingdom, she will still find the doctor and end his current life.”  

Sheryl paused, then shifted the topic.  

“But who can guarantee that you will definitely defeat the Vampire Ancestor? If the doctor chooses to help, wouldn’t that mean ending the life he enjoys now ahead of time?”  

Xia Yi noticed that before Joshua left, he indeed showed signs of hesitation, caught in a state of indecision.

Perhaps Xia Lulu realized this, which is why she wanted Xia Yi to personally come to the Far North Lands to seek out Joshua.

“That does remind me. Actions are indeed more persuasive,” Xia Yi agreed. “But how would I know what Joshua needs me to do?”  

“That’s what I’ll tell you!” Sheryl explained. “Actually, what the doctor hates most right now is the Northern Rebellion Army.”  

“The Northern Rebellion Army?” Xia Yi was somewhat surprised.  

“Your Highness, the Northern Rebellion Army isn’t as friendly as it sounds. In the Far North Lands, they commit all sorts of atrocities. To survive, they often use the excuse of resisting oppressive rule to coerce civilians into helping them, demanding mandatory supplies. If anyone resists them, they are treated as enemies, and they frequently engage in pillaging…”  

Xia Yi frowned. “Aren’t they just terrorists?”  

“In the past, patients the doctor had treated didn’t die from illness or the environment but were killed by the Northern Rebellion Army. Can you understand that feeling? After working so hard to save a patient from the torment of illness, only for them to die an unnatural death in the end… That’s the reason the doctor hates the Northern Rebellion Army.”  

“I think I understand now.”  

Xia Yi seemed lost in thought.  

“Also, there’s one thing I’d like to confirm. About the Northern Mining Field situation, could you tell me a bit from your perspective?”  

“The Northern Mining Field?” Sheryl sighed helplessly. “To be honest, the root of this situation lies with the Northern Mining Field. The main force that formed the Northern Rebellion Army consists of former criminals from the Northern Mining Field.”  

Xia Yi looked up, her gaze fixed on Sheryl.  

“Hmm? What is it, Your Highness? I’m telling the truth,” Sheryl said, somewhat nervously.  

Xia Yi felt there was something slightly off about Sheryl—whether it was the timing of her appearance or how she kept guiding her actions…  

However, she believed Sheryl’s words were genuine.  

Perhaps this was intentionally arranged by Joshua. Due to his indecisiveness, he urgently wanted to see her capabilities, hence setting up this scenario.  

No matter. If that’s the case, then she’d show Joshua what she could do and make him willingly help her.

After recovering their strength, Xia Yi and Elly left the patient rest room together and found Joshua inside the Northern Clinic.  

Joshua was mixing medications. Even though Xia Yi stood right behind him, he acted as if he hadn’t noticed, focused solely on his work.  

“Joshua, I understand your thoughts now. Regarding the Northern Rebellion Army, I will suppress them all and avenge your innocent patients who died in the past,” Xia Yi declared.  

“…” Joshua said nothing.  

Xia Yi didn’t need any response from him. As long as Joshua didn’t object, that was enough.  

“Let’s go, Elly.”  

After giving the order, Xia Yi left the Northern Clinic.  

Elly was puzzled and caught up to ask, “Your Highness, shouldn’t we wait a bit? The people from the Northern Mining Field are coming to pick us up.”  

“No. Before the Northern Mining Field people arrive, we need to move around this town for a while,” Xia Yi replied.

“Doctor Joshua, didn’t you say you found Her Highness? Why isn’t she at the Northern Clinic?”  

“…”  

“Speak! Where is Her Highness now? We came because we received your report. If Her Highness gets lost and something happens, don’t think you’ll get off unscathed!”  

People from the Northern Mining Field were arguing with Joshua inside the Northern Clinic.  

Just as the situation was about to escalate, the silver-haired little girl returned with her maid in tow.  

“Ahem, you’re here?”  

“Your Highness! Thank heavens you’re safe! Where were you just now? Why weren’t you waiting for us at the Northern Clinic?” The dragon from the Northern Mining Field hurried forward, bowing in greeting.  

“Oh, I was hungry, so I went to find something good to eat in town!”  

In Xia Yi’s hand was steaming hot food—local specialty barbecue—giving off the vibe of a little foodie.  

“You… as long as you’re safe!”  

The dragon from the Northern Mining Field seemed to want to say more but held back.  

Afterward, the Northern Mining Field personnel retrieved the three sled dog generals and escorted Xia Yi away from the clinic, returning to the Northern Mining Field.

Elly took out a handkerchief and wiped Xia Yi’s cheek.
