Volume 4 Chapter 292
by Need_More_SleepVolume 4 + Chapter 292: The Doctor’s Death
“Report, Sir Gallant Knight! We have not yet discovered the Doctor’s whereabouts!”
A member of the Paladin Order reported before a knight of extraordinary status.
This knight wore silver-white armor, a fiery red cape, and his helmet bore a long red tassel, giving a visual impression of fierce valor.
He was the Gallant Knight, one of the four Grand Knights under the Paladin Order.
This time, the Gallant Knight had received a special mission, to leave the Rhine Kingdom and pursue the human traitor, Claire Morrison.
However, strictly speaking, this alchemical genius from one of the Four Great Families had already been publicly disowned by the Morrison family.
“This Doctor is not only ruthless in her methods but truly capable as well. Along this journey, she has actually defeated many paladins,” the Gallant Knight remarked with feeling. “But today, this ends.”
The news of the Doctor’s betrayal of humanity had spread rapidly throughout the human world.
She was an absolute genius in alchemy, had made many contributions to the field, and even developed alchemical potions that saved lives and healed the wounded…
No one could have imagined that this very genius, once hailed as a beacon for humanity, would commit such unforgivable crimes as killing her own kin and slaughtering her fellow countrymen.
By the time everyone realized what was happening, the Doctor had already fled the Rhine Kingdom, leaving the human world behind.
Due to the extreme severity of her actions, the Knight King was compelled to issue an order for her arrest. She dispatched the Gallant Knight, one of the Four Grand Knights, to lead members of the Paladin Order in pursuit of the Doctor.
Under the Gallant Knight’s leadership, the Paladin Order members pursued and cornered the Doctor, driving her into this region known as the Gray Volcano.
The Gray Volcano was a unique area on this continent. Historically, volcanic activity here was extremely frequent, with volcanic eruptions occurring as natural disasters from time to time. It was unsuitable for long-term settlement by any race. Coupled with the frequent activity of magical beasts, most people kept a respectful distance from the Gray Volcano.
Now, the Paladin Order had sealed off the volcano’s surroundings. Their task was to gradually tighten the search net, then catch the Doctor like a turtle in a jar.
“Continue to tighten the encirclement and search for the Doctor’s whereabouts. She has no possibility of escape left!” the Gallant Knight ordered. “All units, advance quickly! Do not overlook any suspicious figures!”
“As you command, Sir Gallant Knight!”
The reporting knight conveyed the order to the others.
“Sir Gallant Knight, why do you think the Doctor suddenly committed such abnormal acts?” the Gallant Knight’s adjutant inquired.
In truth, the Paladin Order’s upper echelons didn’t know the specific reason either.
The Doctor had destroyed her laboratory, burning all experimental materials in a sea of flames.
“…It seems she was dissatisfied with His Majesty the Knight King’s decision to terminate the Rhine Alchemy Hybrid Species Plan. She continued her research privately and, to pursue her experiments, descended into madness,” the Gallant Knight replied. “As you know, among alchemists, there are always a few irrational madmen.”
“Indeed. Although the exact nature of the experiment is unknown, it must have been extremely dangerous,” the adjutant paused. “Sir Gallant Knight, I consulted some alchemists earlier, asking them to analyze the Doctor’s movements. They deduced a surprising conclusion.”
“What conclusion?”
“It seems the legendary Philosopher’s Stone might exist here.”
“The Philosopher’s Stone?”
“That’s what the alchemists told me. They only said it’s possible. Perhaps the Doctor came here seeking the Philosopher’s Stone.”
“…No matter what the Doctor intends, today she must confess her crimes and submit to judgment!”
The Gallant Knight had little interest in that alchemist stuff and didn’t press further.
After some time, a paladin arrived to report.
“Sir Gallant Knight! We have found the Doctor!!”
……
“There are paladins everywhere below. I can’t go back now.”
The disheveled Doctor, chewing on a lollipop, walked step by step up the volcano.
Some time had passed since she fled the Rhine Kingdom.
Her goal was to find the legendary Philosopher’s Stone. She believed only the Philosopher’s Stone could help her break through the experimental bottleneck.
Previously, the Doctor had consulted many documents, searched numerous rumors, and even participated in archaeological expeditions with the Paladin Order. She ultimately concluded one thing: the last known location of the Philosopher’s Stone was the Gray Volcano.
However, within the Gray Volcano region, she couldn’t find a single trace of it. If anything, there were only magical beasts.
“Was I deceived by the ancients?”
The Doctor felt somewhat like giving up.
“Doctor, it ends here!”
Just below, a resounding voice rang out.
The Doctor turned to see the Paladin Order, led by the Gallant Knight, one of the Four Grand Knights.
“You lot are truly persistent hauntings!”
The paladins began chanting sacred incantations, causing a massive holy magic circle to descend. Within this circle, all Paladin Order members would gain enhanced combat power and a degree of resistance to alchemical toxins.
This was specifically prepared for the Doctor.
One could say the level of attention was like using a cannon to swat a mosquito. The Doctor had no escape left.
“Betrayer of humanity, confess your crimes and submit to judgment!”
The Gallant Knight drew his knight’s sword, pointing it at the Doctor. Just as he prepared to strike,
“ROOOAAARRR!!!”
Suddenly, a furious roar shook the Gray Volcano. A terrifying behemoth appeared within everyone’s sight.
Black, dense fog surged downward. Within the fog, more and more monsters emerged.
The expressions of all the paladins changed drastically.
Especially the Gallant Knight. He was all too familiar with this. It was…
“The aura of a Calamity?!”
The Gallant Knight didn’t understand. Why would a Calamity Beast appear here?
He immediately ordered the other paladins to change formation, preparing to lead the knights to confront the Calamity.
“Ugh… Ah, ah!!!”
Being at the volcano’s summit, the Doctor was the first to come into contact with the Calamity’s aura. It was as if she glimpsed a transcendent, great existence slumbering within the volcano.
However, her mere mortal body couldn’t withstand such information. Clutching her head, she let out a pained wail, losing human rationality. Her body moved as if uncontrolled, and she began to run wildly.
“ROAR!!”
The Calamity Beasts charged towards the paladins. Compared to the Doctor, these monsters seemed more intent on slaughtering these humans who wielded holy magic.
If this continued, the Doctor might escape.
“Tch!”
With no other choice, the Gallant Knight took out a bow, nocked an arrow, drew it to full draw, and released.
With precise marksmanship, the arrow pierced through the Doctor’s body.
“Urgh… Uh… Ugh…”
Propelled by the arrow’s force, the Doctor was sent flying, tumbling down into the volcanic crater and vanishing from everyone’s sight.
This was precisely what the Gallant Knight had planned.
“This should fulfill His Majesty the Knight King’s task. The Doctor, fallen into the volcano, has no possibility of survival,” the Gallant Knight stated.
