Volume 4 Chapter 222
by Need_More_SleepVolume 4 + Chapter 222: Xia Yi’s Dream Adventure
“What’s going on? Why is everything pitch black? This… isn’t a dream, is it?”
Xia Yi rubbed her eyes and looked around, feeling like the surrounding area was engulfed in darkness.
She distinctly remembered that Elizabeth had used Dream Entry to bring her into the other’s dream, right?
Yet the situation before her eyes was completely different from last time when they entered the blood elf palace maid’s dream.
Could it be that…
It failed?!
“If it fails, I’ll be someone else’s little blood bag for the rest of my life!”
Xia Yi clutched her head, utterly unable to accept this.
“I don’t want something like that to happen!”
“Hey now, calm down a bit, little silver dragon.”
Xia Yi suddenly heard Ella’s voice.
“Ella, where are you? I can’t see you!”
“Here, right here.”
“Huh?”
Xia Yi looked down and saw her lower abdomen glowing. There was a heart-shaped pattern on it—Ella’s leftover Succubus Mark.
And it was actually flashing! This embarrassed her so much she hurriedly covered the mark with her hands.
“It’s a time like this, can’t you stop messing around, Ella!”
“Alright, alright, I was just reminding you, not teasing you.”
Ella stopped making the Succubus Mark glow, letting it return to its normal state.
“Did the dream entry succeed?” Xia Yi asked again.
“Of course it succeeded! We’ve already entered the Vampire Clan’s Divine Ancestor’s dream. After all, I am the great Succubus Lady! Since I said I’d teach that arrogant Vampire Clan’s Divine Ancestor a lesson, I’ll definitely do it!” Ella declared with full confidence.
“But I don’t see you anywhere.”
“Of course I’m not there. If I entered Elizabeth’s dream, I’d be detected. My aura is far too unfamiliar to her.”
“Oh, right. I remember you mentioned last time… that you’d use me to cast the Succubus magic…”
“That’s right!”
Ella confirmed.
“Strictly speaking, with the assistance of the Succubus Mark, we achieved the effect of you, the little silver dragon, casting Succubus magic. In reality, I haven’t entered the Vampire Clan’s Divine Ancestor’s dream. The only one who entered the dream is you. I’m just broadcasting your current situation in real-time through the Succubus Mark. Naturally, my aura wouldn’t be here, so the Vampire Clan’s Divine Ancestor won’t detect it.”
Although slightly complex to understand, Xia Yi grasped the gist.
Simply put…
“The Succubus Mark is really amazing!”
“But doing this consumes a lot of energy. I prepared for a long time to save up enough energy. It was really exhausting.”
“However, Ella, why are the surroundings still pitch black? Last time we experimented, didn’t we enter the blood elf palace maid’s dream very quickly?”
“Xia Yi, the state of the dream world is very complex. Everyone’s dream is different; there’s no real comparability,” Ella explained. “For example, some people’s dreams are very easy to enter. Others’ dreams are like mazes; once inside, you can lose your way, finding it difficult to locate the main body of the dream. If you enter without caution, you can only wander at the edges.”
“So this wicked woman’s dream is the type that’s harder to find the main body of?”
“Hmm, probably so.”
“What should we do in this situation?”
“Leave.”
“Ah? Leave?”
“Yes. I usually find it troublesome. In such cases, I just find another target. On one hand, I don’t really want to spend a lot of time. On the other hand, if we encounter danger, dealing with it would consume Succubus energy. It might end up being more trouble than it’s worth… After all, I’m not the stubborn type. If it’s time to run, I run.”
“But you kept pestering me…”
“That’s different! Xia Yi, it was your own fault, running off on your debt and making me so angry I lost my cool!”
“Ahem, let’s not bring up those things now! What’s important is the present. I can’t just run away now, can I?!” Xia Yi hurriedly changed the subject. “If I run away like this, I’ll fall right into Elizabeth’s hands!”
“Now we must find the main body of Elizabeth’s dream. There’s really no other way. Keep moving forward. Rely on intuition to find it.”
“Then… this way!”
Xia Yi, relying on her gut feeling, pointed in one direction.
Both sides were equally pitch black, seemingly not much different, so she just pointed randomly.
“Mmm, let’s go.” Ella had no particular opinion either.
Thus, Xia Yi began advancing in that direction. She kept walking forward, but the scenery showed no change.
She walked for a very, very long time…
“Why does it feel like we’re still not getting closer to the main body of the dream?!” Xia Yi complained. “I’ve been walking forever!”
“What you perceive as having traveled a long distance might actually just be you circling in place.”
“Eh? Is that so?”
“I can’t be sure either. That’s why situations where the effort isn’t worth it can occur,” Ella sighed. “The Vampire Clan’s Divine Ancestor’s level is far above mine. I can’t achieve complete dream dominion to reshape the dream and find the main body directly.”
“Alright…”
“But there’s good news. Time passing in the dream world isn’t equivalent to reality. Here, you don’t need to worry about the situation outside.”
Ella’s words did boost Xia Yi’s spirits a bit.
Since she didn’t need to worry about the passage of time in the outside world, she could just patiently keep searching.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way. She’d find it eventually.
“Keep moving forward. Don’t give up.”
Xia Yi clenched her small fists, giving herself encouragement.
After that, she kept moving forward just as before.
But, continuing to walk like this…
She started to feel something was off.
“Huh?!”
Xia Yi stopped in her tracks and turned to look at the darkness behind her.
“What’s wrong?” Ella asked.
“I feel like… someone is following me.”
“Are you sure?”
“…Not really sure.”
Xia Yi looked at the unchanging darkness and grew uncertain again.
It was just a sudden feeling that had popped up.
“Could this be…!!” Ella suddenly warned. “Xia Yi, look over there!!”
Xia Yi looked in the direction Ella indicated. She just saw a patch of darkness…
Wait!
She saw that patch of “darkness” was… writhing.
It wasn’t an illusion earlier. Something really had been following her.
“Summon your weapon!”
“Okay!”
The holy sword sigil on the back of Xia Yi’s hand appeared. Just as she was about to summon it, a spine-chilling feeling rose in her heart.
Her body instinctively retreated, acting before her mind could even think.
In the next moment, she saw that the writhing “darkness” from before had launched an attack on her!
However, thanks to her timely evasion, the other’s ambush didn’t succeed.
“Holy Sword, Gram!!”
The holy sword blossomed with radiance in Xia Yi’s hand. The golden light briefly illuminated the surroundings. For a short moment, Xia Yi saw clearly—it was a hideous-looking monster.
The monster seemed terrified of the holy sword’s light, letting out a screech and twisting into a ball.
“Gale Slash!”
Xia Yi swiftly swung her sword, releasing a sword energy like a gale that struck the monster, forcing it back.
She was about to press the advantage and continue the pursuit but was stopped by Ella’s call.
“Xia Yi, stop! Let it escape here, then follow it! Don’t lose track!”
Xia Yi withdrew her sword stance and gave chase, asking at the same time, “Ella, what is that monster? I feel it’s not something that exists in reality.”
“You’re right. It’s a monster formed from the aggregation of nightmare residue.”
“Nightmare residue?”
“Yes. Nightmares can generate many negative emotions in a person’s psyche. These negative emotions might not be digested immediately; a small portion of residue can linger,” Ella explained. “Over time, as this nightmare residue accumulates, it gradually turns into mobile residue monsters.”
“Would I have something similar in my mind?”
“The birth of residue monsters varies from person to person. The more one lives in pain, the more prone they are to nightmares, and the more nightmare residue they have… I haven’t seen any in the little silver dragon’s dreams, though,” Ella replied.
“So, what’s this monster doing now?”
“In some dreams involving death, the dreamer can generate corresponding thoughts, like not wanting to die… The residue monster is currently influenced by such thoughts. It doesn’t want to die and is trying to flee to a place where it can survive. This kind of monster can’t think, it only acts according to these negative emotions.”
“I understand what you mean now!”
Xia Yi had a sudden realization.
She knew why Ella had intentionally told her to let the residue monster go.
It had to be Ella. No one understood the dream world better than she did.
“That’s right. Follow it closely, Xia Yi. Make good use of that thing, and we’ll find what we’re looking for.” Ella chuckled.
“Mm!”
Xia Yi continued closely pursuing the residue monster. She even deliberately launched a few attacks from behind, purposely missing to scare the monster into running faster.
While chasing the monster, she had a strong premonition. It felt completely different from earlier when she walked for ages and saw nothing. This time, it truly felt like she was heading towards a specific place.
She didn’t know how much time passed. Up ahead, the scenery before Xia Yi changed.
A fissure appeared within the darkness. Light seeped through from behind that fissure.
The residue monster screeched, clawing its way, fleeing to the fissure, desperately squeezing itself inside.
“It’s there! Hurry, follow it!!” Ella shouted excitedly. “We found it, Xia Yi! That’s the main body of the Vampire Clan’s Divine Ancestor’s dream! It really was hidden deep enough!!”
Xia Yi raised her sword and charged forward swiftly. Using the holy sword, she impaled the residue monster’s body, obliterating it, then proactively stepped into the fissure.
She successfully entered the main body of Elizabeth’s dream. Her vision was enveloped by a burst of light. After adjusting, her sight slowly returned.
“T-This is…?!”
Upon seeing Elizabeth’s dream, the little princess’s expression changed, and she was thrown into a state of shock.
