Volume 4 Chapter 164
by Need_More_SleepVolume 4 + Chapter 164: Joy!
After completing her self-introduction, Xia Yi asked a direct question in front of all the elves.
“Why haven’t I seen Eve? On such an important occasion, how could she, as the elven royal princess, not be here?”
As soon as these words were spoken, the elves’ expressions all changed.
By common sense, as a princess of the elven royal family, Eve indeed should have attended this meeting. After all, her status was equivalent to Xia Yi’s. Yet the reason for her absence was something everyone present knew full well.
No one dared to continue the conversation. All fell silent.
Only Kennedy remained composed, calmly asking, “Could it be that the Silver Dragon Princess and Princess Eve are quite close? Did you know each other previously?”
“Not really. I was just a little curious,” Xia Yi replied. “We didn’t know each other before. We hadn’t even met at gatherings of the higher races.”
“I see,” Kennedy explained. “Our Princess Eve is currently unwell, so she has gone to rest and was unable to attend this meeting. Our apologies.”
Eve is sick?
Xia Yi felt that this elven general was talking nonsense.
She carefully recalled what had happened earlier—when Eve invited her into the elven camp, and the reactions and remarks of the elven officers. At the time, they had mentioned that the elven general would definitely be angry…
She more or less understood now.
Good grief—this was obviously Kennedy locking Eve away.
“That’s alright. I hope Princess Eve recovers soon,” Xia Yi said. “I heard that General Kennedy wished to see me?”
“Yes. After hearing that the Silver Dragon Princess agreed to become reinforcements for our elven race, I was extremely excited and had long wished to meet you in person. Unfortunately, I was away on assignment and couldn’t return immediately to receive you myself. I fear I may have been somewhat discourteous—please forgive me.”
“The elven race has been very warm in its hospitality toward our dragon race. I can certainly feel it,” Xia Yi replied.
Suddenly, she recalled something.
At the banquet of the higher races, Xia Lulu had been chatting and laughing with the Nine-Tailed Fox Emperor. Clearly, the two did not get along at all, and there were even underlying conflicts between their races, yet on the surface they were able to maintain perfect courtesy and friendliness.
At the time, she had felt quite emotional about it.
Now, in her conversation with the elven general, she was already experiencing the same feeling.
“Hehe, meeting you today has truly broadened my horizons. The Silver Dragon Princess is indeed young and outstanding,” Kennedy said with a smile. “If only our own princess were as exceptional as you, His Majesty the Elf King would not have to worry so much.”
“General Kennedy flatters me. I am still rather immature and have much to learn.”
“Let us set aside pleasantries. Silver Dragon Princess, the reason I wished to meet you is to discuss an important matter.”
“What matter would that be?”
“Our elven race has already set a date. At dawn three days from now, after the sun rises, we plan to launch an assault to seize the border stronghold of the Holy Crimson Empire. This battle concerns whether our Anti–Vampire Clan Alliance will be able to advance into vampire clan territory in the future.”
“I have some doubts. How confident is the elven race in successfully taking the stronghold?”
“Without exaggeration, our elven race has full confidence—one hundred percent—in capturing it,” Kennedy said confidently. “Against the defending forces at the gate, we can achieve complete suppression. Taking the stronghold will pose no problem whatsoever. We do not require assistance from other armies, the elven race alone is sufficient.”
“But if that is the case, why did the elven race seek reinforcements from outside?”
“Silver Dragon Princess, this battle is of extreme importance and allows no margin for error. It may even rewrite the future course of history on this continent,” Kennedy explained. “If the assault fails, our intentions will be completely exposed. The vampire clan will begin gathering its remaining forces to defend the gate with all they have. Once the armies of the Beastmen Alliance return, it will become exceedingly difficult to invade vampire clan territory. I believe you can understand this, yes?”
“……”
Xia Yi fell silent, deep in thought.
Kennedy continued, “The Anti–Vampire Clan Alliance is not entirely united. Other nations are watching from the sidelines. If we fail, they may not lend a hand. In the worst-case scenario, they might even defect to the vampire clan. That shouldn’t be hard to understand, should it? That is why I decided to request assistance from other countries’ forces.”
“So earlier, you approached the fox race?”
“Yes. Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, the fox race refused us. Thankfully, your dragon race was willing to come.”
Kennedy first bowed, showing respect to the dragon race.
“This battle will not require the dragon race to participate directly. You only need to remain on standby in the rear. We can guarantee that on the frontal battlefield, our elven race has absolute confidence in securing victory. There will be no need for the dragon race to fight, nor will you suffer any losses. This is merely to ensure contingencies.”
“Well… about that…” Xia Yi hesitated slightly.
Kennedy felt a sense of urgency in his heart. He was almost unable to resist invoking his authority as leader of the Anti–Vampire Clan Alliance to issue a direct order, forcing the dragon race to comply.
However, judging from the attitude reported earlier by the elven officers, the dragon race was simply too arrogant, acting entirely according to their own mood.
The more he tried to force the issue, the more likely it would backfire.
He decided to endure it.
This was not only an opportunity to change the course of history, but also a chance to change his own destiny.
If he could make use of the dragon race to take this stronghold, it would be a tremendous military achievement. Once the Anti–Vampire Clan War was won and the elven race gained substantial benefits, Kennedy’s prestige within the elven race would skyrocket.
At that point, he would truly reach a position second only to one, towering above all others. Except for the Elf King, no one would be able to make him bow his head.
Moreover, the Elf King’s health was already failing—he would not live much longer. Princess Eve was both immature and lacking in authority. When that time came…
At this thought, Kennedy’s palms began to sweat.
“Since you’ve put it that way, we’ll help you,” Xia Yi finally replied. “After all, we won’t need to fight—just act as insurance in case of accidents, right?”
“Yes. You only need to remain safely in the rear of the battlefield.”
On the surface, Kennedy struggled to suppress his emotions, refusing to reveal the turbulent joy within his heart. In reality, he was already overjoyed, as if he could see the entire victory of this campaign being swallowed whole by the elven race.
“On behalf of the elven race, and as leader of the Anti–Vampire Clan Alliance, I thank you for your cooperation, Silver Dragon Princess. This was the most decisive choice.”
Kennedy smiled.
From this moment on, the gears of fate began turning for Kennedy. He believed that one day he would seize control of the elven race, no longer bound by anyone in the future.
His current mood could be summed up in a single word—
Joy!
