    Chapter 386: Feng Rong’s Abnormality

“How is he?” You You grasped the hand of the person on the bed, turning to Yuan Qi who was checking his pulse.

Since returning from the Nether Realm, Feng Rong’s condition had worsened. Initially, he only vomited and seemed emotionally unstable. But gradually, his entire body weakened, his spirit dimmed, and he grew constantly drowsy. His power dwindled too. Within days, he transformed from being irritable enough to slice off a mountain peak to lying weak and pale on the bed, occasionally grimacing in pain.

“The origin consciousness might be unstable, affecting him,” Yuan Qi said, brow furrowed. “Even as a Demon God, he can’t fully calm the origin.”

“What can we do?” You You pressed.

“We must wait for it to stabilize,” Yuan Qi replied, giving Feng Rong a peculiar look. “This immature consciousness relies on his power to grow. Once matured, it’ll leave his body.”

So waiting was their only option?

She studied the frail figure. His breathtaking face had turned ghostly pale, his once-vibrant eyes now dull with exhaustion. His breathing came faint and uneven, as if he hovered between sleep and wakefulness. This vulnerability surpassed even his usual dramatic displays of weakness. Though barely conscious, he stubbornly clutched her hand, eyelids fluttering open now and then to confirm her presence.

“You You…” His whisper barely reached her.

Her heart clenched. She brushed hair from his damp forehead, fingertips grazing his icy cheek. “Isn’t there anything to ease his suffering?”

“The origin differs from ordinary souls. What’s forming within him is a main deity,” Yuan Qi explained. “Since our powers as main deities are comparable, Feng Rong must expend tremendous energy to nurture it.”

“So he’s weakening from rapid power loss?”

    Yuan Qi nodded. “Essentially… yes.”

You You recalled how pregnant mortals required extra nourishment—eating five meals daily was normal. Yet she’d barely visited Feng Rong recently, swamped with sect affairs. Guilt gnawed at her—she felt like the neglectful partner in those pregnancy tales.

“Then we must replenish him immediately!” Her Little Fire Chicken deserved no less than others.

“He needs power restoration,” Yuan Qi mused. “The Demon Hall contains an origin pool—magic condensed from his power. It might help.”

You You remembered that dark pool where the Demon King’s seal once floated, its demon source thicker than anywhere else.

“I’ll fetch it from the Demon Realm.” She stood to leave.

Two steps away, the bed creaked. Feng Rong suddenly jolted awake, lunging wildly. “You You!”

He tumbled off the bed, missing her hand but wrapping both arms around her leg.

“Feng Rong!” You You exclaimed, trying to lift him.

“Don’t go! Stay…” He clung desperately, words dissolving into choked sobs. Tears welled, then flowed like a burst dam. “You You… You You…”

“I’m staying! Don’t cry!” Shock gave way to aching sympathy as she cradled him. His raw vulnerability felt alien—the proud phoenix would rather die than show such weakness. She rubbed his trembling back. “Shh… I’m not leaving.”

Only after prolonged soothing did his tears slow. She helped the dazed man back to bed, his grip remaining vise-like on her sleeve.

You You turned to Yuan Qi, who looked equally stunned. “What’s wrong with him?”

“Let me check.” Yuan Qi reached for Feng Rong’s wrist, but the latter recoiled, burrowing deeper into You You’s embrace.

Yuan Qi pressed a glowing finger to Feng Rong’s forehead instead. His eyes snapped open. “His power loss… stopped! The origin consciousness stabilized too—as if pacified.”

“How?” You You blinked. “Did Feng Rong suppress it?”

Yuan Qi studied the man still nuzzling You You’s shoulder. “Perhaps… through your power.”

    “Mine?” She’d only hugged him—

    Wait.

Channeling a trickle of energy into him, she watched his pained expression ease. He stopped crushing her against his chest.

“It works!” She gently laid him down, though his hand stayed locked around hers.

“The origin responds to you,” Yuan Qi realized. “Though it entered Feng Rong, only your presence calms it. You can’t leave his side now.”

You You remembered the origin sphere lunging for her—until Feng Rong intercepted it.

So he’d taken her place. This “pregnancy” should have been hers.

The guilt intensified. She’d truly become the ultimate scumbag.
