Chapter 275: The Treatment of a Noble Lady

While they were discussing where to start searching, they suddenly heard footsteps climbing the stairs. A knock came at the door moments later.

You You motioned for everyone to quiet down before calling out, “Enter!”

The door opened to reveal the innkeeper who had greeted her earlier, trailed by four or five young men in server attire, all grinning ear to ear. “Noble lady, you must be weary from your travels,” the innkeeper said. “Our humble inn has prepared some local delicacies. We hope they please you.”

He waved his hand, and the servers laid out an array of dishes until the table groaned under their weight. The room filled with rich aromas.

“These are Feng City’s most famous specialties. As a first-time visitor, you must try them!” The innkeeper set down a wine jar, eyes gleaming. “Our city’s top chefs prepared these. Absolutely authentic—please taste them!”

You You stared at the mountain of food, torn between gratitude and unease. “Thank you, but let me pay for this.”

“No!” The innkeeper recoiled as if burned. “This is our honor! We’d never take coin from a noble lady!”

“But you’re running a business,” she pressed, recalling how hard her sect worked to earn funds.

“Your presence here is payment enough!” He chuckled, moving to the window. “Look below!”

Peering down, You You saw a sea of people crowding the inn’s entrance, necks craned upward.

“We’ve been fully booked since your arrival,” the innkeeper boasted. “Noble ladies seldom visit our remote city. Your stay guarantees months of busy trade!”

You You blinked. So she was free advertisement.

“And such a young noble lady traveling with only two husband servants!” The innkeeper eyed Yuan Qi and Feng Rong before leaning closer. “My nephew in west Feng City is sixteen, unmarried, quite handsome—”

Feng Rong shot up, face stormy. “Out. Now.” He herded the sputtering innkeeper into the hallway.

You You rubbed her temples. The mortal realm’s reverence for noble ladies clearly knew no bounds.

They left soon after to hunt the Soul Beast. The previously quiet inn now overflowed with patrons. The bustling hall fell silent when she appeared, every eye tracking her movement. The crowd parted like wheat before a scythe, granting her a clear path.

Near the exit, a server wobbled, tray tipping. You You caught the falling bowl and steadied him. “Careful.”

“Th-thank you, noble lady!” The server turned crimson, dishes clattering louder.

Feng Rong dragged her outside, shooting the man a withering glare.

The streets proved worse. Objects began raining before her—jade pendants, hairpins, even a guqin—each “dropped” near hopeful young men. After picking up a few items, You You ignored them. Feng Rong took grim pleasure in stomping on every obstruction, crunching sounds marking their progress.

When the barrage lessened, a figure hurtled from an alley. You You sidestepped neatly. An eager bystander rushed to “help,” only to collide with the sprinting man. Both sprawled in the dust.

“Are you hurt?” You You asked. The would-be hero spat out a tooth, gaping at her.

This wasn’t the grateful encounter he’d imagined.
