Chapter 274: The Remote Little City

Qiu Zhang said the strange city lay near the Western Region. Flying on their swords at full speed, the three crisscrossed the Western Region multiple times until dawn before finally spotting the place he’d described. It was more a small town than a city, nestled deep in remote mountains beside a vast marsh. Surrounded by peaks on three sides with no protective walls, it clearly wasn’t prosperous.

Without Qiu Zhang’s prior visit, they might have missed it. Yet the town bustled with activity. They scanned the area with divine senses but detected nothing unusual—no spiritual energy fluctuations, just ordinary people.

Exchanging glances, they landed near the town. The deserted city gate bore no guards, only a hastily scrawled "丰" above it—Feng City.

You You stepped through the gate. A sudden chill gripped her, vanishing as quickly as it came.

"What’s wrong?" Feng Rong turned when she paused.

"Nothing," she shook her head. The illusion faded as market noises engulfed them. Though the gate stood quiet, the streets teemed with life.

Their arrival drew stares. Feng Rong and Yuan Qi’s striking looks always turned heads, but today more gazes locked onto You You. Whispers erupted:

    "A noble lady!"

    "New to Feng City?"

    "Look at my stall!"

She pushed through the crowd toward the inn Qiu Zhang had mentioned.

"We need rooms," You You told the innkeeper.

The man dropped his abacus, stammering, "N-Noble lady! Our best room is yours—no charge!" He wrung his hands. "Regular rooms would shame us!"

She reluctantly accepted the lavish third-floor suite while Feng Rong and Yuan Qi took Qiu Zhang’s old room nearby.

"Nothing unusual," Yuan Qi reported after inspecting it. "No formations, no energy traces."

Feng Rong added, "Everyone here’s ordinary—no cultivators."

"Then where’s the Soul Beast?" You You frowned. "We’ll have to stay and investigate."

As night fell over the peculiar town, the mystery deepened.
