Chapter 62: Absolute Dominance!
by Ink HubIn that instant, everyone present was turned to stone by shock. Within their field of vision, a gargantuan creature rapidly manifested from the mists and surged forward: the very air seemed to ripple under the force of its impact.
“What? What is that?”
“It is a Thunder-Devouring Mist Demon! Ah! It is the same one from Xianwu Island!”
“Heavens! She actually brought that great demon back to Carefree Valley!”
The crowd cried out in alarm. Even Ji Yaoyue’s expression shifted violently: she felt a sudden, sharp impulse to flee immediately.
Gulp.
Watching this, Pan Changhe and the Song family experts could not help but suck in cold air and swallow hard, their eyes wide with terror. Even more inconceivable was the fact that the formidable demon, after its initial charge, came to a halt right before Long Xiwei. It acted like a puppy begging for a favor: it actually knelt and began to lick her hand.
“Wait, what is happening?”
Yun Chaomu was dazed as well. In that split second, she had intended to rush forward to shield Long Xiwei, but she never expected such a bizarre scene to unfold. This was an invincible great demon at the peak of the Jindan Realm!
Long Xiwei, however, remained expressionless. She pointed toward the opposing camp and spoke slowly. “Little Jin, those people: leave not one alive!”
At those words, Pan Yan suddenly burst into laughter. “Hahaha! Long Xiwei, what kind of joke is this? That demon’s brain would have to be rusted through for it to obey your commands. You…!”
Boom!
Before Pan Yan could finish his ignorant words, the Thunder-Devouring Mist Demon unleashed a blast of breath. Along with a thunderous roar, Pan Yan’s body was instantly vaporized into a mist of blood. Even those standing near him were caught in the blast: some died instantly, while others were mangled in the chaotic aftermath.
“Wh… What? My son! Argh!“
Pan Changhe stared in disbelief, momentarily convinced he was trapped in a nightmare. But as the scene dissolved into total chaos and the demon began to charge into the ranks for a systematic slaughter, he finally snapped back to reality. Thunder crackled as people scattered in a desperate attempt to escape.
It was all real.
“You killed my son! I will destroy you, you vile beast!” Pan Changhe roared, his heart consumed by fury. But when he saw the gargantuan creature obliterate dozens of powerhouses with a single breath, he froze in place.
Seeking revenge? It would be like an egg striking a stone.
“It is you! It is you, you bitch! I will kill you!”
Squelch!
Pan Changhe suddenly seemed to wake up. His Qi surged as he lunged toward Long Xiwei. At the same time, several figures from the Song family camp joined the charge. They knew they could not defeat the demon, so they turned their spears toward Long Xiwei instead.
“Little Jin, come!”
Long Xiwei’s gaze was icy. Her words seemed to carry the force of law. The massive creature, which she had nicknamed Little Jin out of her longing for Lu Jin, charged back instantly. In a few heartbeats, it wiped out the Song family elders. Even Song Heming was reduced to a slurry of ash by a direct bolt of lightning.
“Pan Changhe, you chose to be stubborn and lead our valley toward ruin. Die!”
Following the direction of Long Xiwei’s finger, the demon launched a targeted attack. The strength of a 4th-grade Jindan was like a clay chicken or a pottery dog before it; he possessed not a shred of combat power. Like Song Heming before him, he was turned into a mist of blood and bone fragments.
Yun Chaomu and the loyalists of Carefree Valley watched the entire sequence, unable to find words to describe their shock. Under the demon’s relentless bombardment, the battlefield was left in ruins. Corpses littered the ground. A few fast-moving survivors vanished into the mountains, but the rest were stripped of all life.
Suddenly, Long Xiwei’s gaze shifted to the sky. “Wait. Ji Yaoyue, do not think of leaving!”
Seeing Ji Yaoyue attempting to flee, Long Xiwei’s expression darkened. What if she were a 6th-grade Jindan? With the Thunder-Devouring Mist Demon, she would be hunted down all the same!
“Little Jin, charge!”
Thud!
The demon’s iron hooves slammed into the earth as its body shot out like an arrow from a bow, soaring into the void in an instant.
“Bastard!” Ji Yaoyue gritted her teeth. She never expected this guaranteed victory to turn into such a disaster, let alone that she would be reduced to fleeing for her life. The demon was too powerful: even with her Earth-tier movement art, the Wave-Treading Steps, she could not escape its relentless pursuit.
“I cannot die!”
Sensing the demon’s aura drawing closer and closer, Ji Yaoyue was enveloped by a feeling of impending death unlike anything she had ever felt.
“Nine Swords of the Void!”
“Jindan: explode for me!”
In her desperation, Ji Yaoyue’s eyes were like dead ash, yet they flickered with an unprecedented resolve. Maintaining a sliver of hope for survival was better than her soul being extinguished!
Boom!
A golden light shot out: her very Jindan. A Jindan self-detonation! The horrific, destructive power swept outward instantly, even stalling the demon’s rapid pursuit. Simultaneously, nine massive flying swords shot out from the site of the explosion, streaking toward nine different directions.
Ji Yaoyue stood upon one of the swords, coughing up blood. Her eyes were filled with terror and determination. Whether she could keep her life and escape would depend entirely on luck.
Sure enough, the nine swords confused the demon’s sense of direction, and the explosion of the Golden Core further hindered its speed. The creature had not expected the human to be so resolute. By the time it regained its focus, the nine swords had already vanished into the void. It could not tell which one carried its target.
“Little Jin, come back,” Long Xiwei called out. The demon turned back, looking somewhat unwilling.
The scene suddenly fell silent. Only Yun Chaomu and her group remained, their mouths agape in wordless awe.
A total crushing victory. A reversal of the highest order.
After a long silence, Yun Chaomu spoke, her voice trembling slightly. “Xiwei, this Thunder-Devouring Mist Demon… what is the meaning of this?”
Long Xiwei gently stroked the demon’s head, suppressing the lingering bloodlust from the slaughter. She tried to maintain a calm tone. “Shizun, this demon… was given to me by a friend named Lu Jin.”
The crowd was even more bewildered. A friend? What kind of friend would be so generous as to give away a super-demon capable of rivaling a 9th-grade Jindan human?
“Good… Good, good, good! Hahaha!” Suddenly, Yun Chaomu began to laugh. It was a hearty, joyous sound. “If not for this demon’s help today, my Carefree Valley would likely have ceased to exist!”
“Pan Changhe and the others were treacherous, plotting with outsiders to kill us. Their death at the hands of the demon is both an accident and their deserved punishment!” Yun Chaomu scanned the survivors and nodded with satisfaction. “Everyone, in our moment of crisis, you did not surrender. You did not commit the base act of recognizing a thief as your father. Having you all is the greatest blessing for our sect!”
“Now that we have such a great demon guarding us, Carefree Valley will never fear again! Furthermore, Xiwei has advanced to the 3rd-grade Jindan, which is more than enough to compete with disciples of the major sects. Therefore, in a few days, I plan to take her to the Eight-Part Blood Dragon Altar to participate in the Blood Moon Holy Land examinations!”
“Excellent! Senior Sister Long is an example for us all!”
“Wonderful! Carefree Valley will surely rise to become a superpower in the near future!”
“Valley Master, the Song family’s experts have suffered heavy losses today. They have used their strength to suppress us for years: after today, I am willing to lead a group to their estate and wipe them out entirely!”
“Good! Clean up the battlefield. We return to the valley to celebrate!”
“By the way, Xiwei, where is this friend named Lu Jin? Without his gift of Little Jin, we would have been doomed today. He has done a great service for our valley; I must thank him personally!”
Seeing her master’s irrepressible enthusiasm, a blush actually surfaced on Long Xiwei’s face.
“What? Is it inconvenient?” Yun Chaomu’s smile was meaningful.
“No, it is not that. Shizun, if… I mean, if you do see him, could you please not call the demon ‘Little… Little Jin’?”
Yun Chaomu burst into laughter. “Oho… I understand, I understand! Hahaha!”
In a forest filled with thick, drifting mist, a figure in red robes was fleeing in a pathetic state. Behind her, a pack of demonic beasts lets out greedy roars, the sound of their frantic footsteps drawing closer.
Ji Yaoyue, having lost her Jindan, had fled from Carefree Valley only to be targeted by bloodthirsty beasts upon landing. Her combat power was gone; she was at the end of her rope. The scent of death was closing in.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Suddenly, a series of arrows whistled past her ears. The pursuit of the beasts came to an abrupt halt. Ji Yaoyue breathed a sigh of relief but looked ahead with caution.
Two figures dressed in black with their faces covered by cloth appeared in her field of vision.
